  • Plasma hardly grows in lowpressure because of lack of collision. But low pressure plasma has useful properties because it has typically low electron density. In here, thermal electron is used to make breakdown in low pressure easily. We changed magnetic field strength and gas to control electron density or temperature. IV characteristic and electron density of the discharge are examined and the characteristic of the discharge in presence of magnetic field is also examined. Results showed that depending on the ionization cross section of the gas, electron density is changed and proper strength of magnetic field is required for high electron density.

  • The lightweight foamed concrete is superior to properties of insulation and light-weight because it is included in many inner pore. So, lightweight foamed concrete used to construction field that need to property of insulation. The property of insulation of lightweight foamed concrete is varied with density. Also, Density is varied with hardening matrix and pore rate. The purpose of the experiment is to know thermal properties of specimen according to the change of density when heating the specimen. As a result of this experiment, the higher density, the lower temperature of mold. this tendency isn't same as ordinary lightweight foamed concrete, and then density 0.9 is expressed most low temperature result also the discontinuity of shape of mold was efficient for the prevention of the temperature rise.

  • Thermal management is very important for the success of high density circuit design in LTCC. In this paper, LTCC substrates containing thermal via and pad were fabricated in order to study the influence of the thermal dissipation. To realize the accurate thermal analysis for structure design, a series of simple thermal conductivity measurement by laser flash method and parametric numerical analysis have been carried out. The LTCC substrate including via and Ag pad has good thermal conductivity over 103 W/mK which is 44% value of pure Ag material. Thermal behaviors with via arrays, size and density in the LTCC substrate were studied by numerical method.

  • Thermal emissivity of commercial nuclear graphites (IG-110, PCEA, IG-430 and NBG-18) following changes in oxidation degrees were examined. Specimens were oxidized to 0%, 5%, and 10% in air flow of 5l/min at $600^{\circ}C$ using a furnace, and the thermal emissivities were measured using an infrared spectrum analyzer. The measuring temperatures for the thermal emissivity were $100^{\circ}C$, $200^{\circ}C$, $300^{\circ}C$, $400^{\circ}C$ $500^{\circ}C$. Also density and porosity of the specimens were observed to compare with thermal emissivity. Results showed that emissivity increased with oxidation, and the 10% oxidized NBG-18 showed the highest emissivity (0.890) which value is larger for 24% than the value of as-received specimen. Investigation of factors affecting the emissivity revealed that increases in the surface roughness and porosity due to oxidation were responsible for the increase in emissivity after oxidation.

  • Characteristics of electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) plasma thermal oxide grown at low-temperature have been investigated. The effects of several process parameters such as substrate temperature, microwave power, gas flow rate, and process pressure on the growth rate of the oxide have been also investigated. It was found that the plasma density, reactive ion species, is strongly related to the growth rate of ECR plasma oxied. It was also found that the plasma density increases with microwave power while it decreases with decreasing O2 flow rate. The oxidation time dependence of the oxide thichness showed parabolic characteristics. Considering ECR plasma thermal oxidation at low-temperature, the linear as well as parabolic rate constants calculated from fitting data by using the Deal-Grove model was very large in comparison with conventional thermal oxidation. The ECR plasma oxide grown on (100) crystalline-Si wafer exhibited good electrical characteristics which are comparable to those of thermal oxide: fixed oxide charge(N$_{ff}$)= 7${\times}10^{10}cm^{-2}$, interface state density(N$_{it}$)=4${\times}10^[10}cm^{-2}eV^{-1}$, and breakdown field > 8MV/cm.

  • Bamboo is representing environmentally friendly building finishing materials as proven in the former researches. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the application properties of cementitious materials modified with bamboo charcoal as building finish materials. Flow test in fresh condition was conducted to assess the workability. Compressive and bending strength were measured after harding. As the thermal properties, thermal conductivity and density were measured. The properties were surpassing over them in case of using the pine charcoal in every tests. The thermal conductivity of them increased with the modified ratio. After the modified ratio 50%, the thermal conductivity decreased. Insolation and absorption performance is due to the lower density by modification of bamboo charcoal.

  • Fabrication technique of $(Th,U)O_2$ pellets has been investigated. Powder mixtures of $ThO_2\;and\;UO_2$ were milled in two different ways-dry and wet milling. Milled powder was compacted and sintered to $(Th,U)O_2$ pellets. The wet-milled powder leads to a $(Th,U)O_2$ pellet having a high sintered density and uniform distribution of U and Th, compared to the dry-milled powder. The sintered density of a $(Th,U)O_2$ pellet tends to decrease by increasing the content of $ThO_2$. The thermal conductivity of $ThO_2\;and\;(Th,U)O_2$ pellets was measured by the laser flash method. The thermal conductivity of the $ThO_2$ pellet is higher than that of the $UO_2$ pellet, and the thermal conductivities of $(Th,U)O_2$ pellets containing $65wt\%\;and\;35wt\%\;ThO_2$ pellets are lower than that of the $UO_2$ pellet.

  • When thermal conductivity of rock is measured with PEDB (Portable Electronic Divided Bar) in a laboratory, it can be greatly influenced by the change of room temperature. Therefore, measuring the thermal conductivity in a thermo-hygrostat is necessary, where it can remain in its constant temperature and humidity condition. In this study, a system for thermal conductivity measurement in a thermo-hygrostat has been set up and the thermal conductivities for the 45 samples collected from GH3 and GH4 boreholes in Ulleung Island have been measured both in dry and saturated conditions. Also, the correlations between those thermal conductivities, density, and effective porosity have been discussed. As a result of correlation analysis among the thermal conductivity, density, and effective porosity, it showed higher correlation with dry samples than saturated samples. Especially, thermal conductivity ratio between saturated and dry conditions shows very high correlation ($R^2=0.90$) with effective porosity.

  • A buffer in a geological disposal system minimizes groundwater inflow from the surrounding rock and protects the disposed high-level waste (HLW) against any mechanical impact. As decay heat of a spent fuel causes temperature variation in the buffer that affects the mechanical performance of the system, an accurate estimation of the temperature variation is substantial. The temperature variation is affected by thermal and material properties of the system such as thermal conductivity, density and specific heat capacity of the buffer, and thus these factors should be properly included in the design of the system. In particular, as the thermal properties are variable depending on the density and water content of the buffer, consideration of the effects should be included in the analysis. Hence, in this study, a numerical model based on finite element method (FEM) which is able to consider the change of density and water content of the buffer was established. In addition, using the numerical model, a parametric study was conducted to investigate the effect of each thermal property on the temperature variation of the buffer.

  • $Cu_2O$ nanowires were synthesized at large scale on copper plate by thermal oxidation in air. The effect of oxidation time and temperature on the morphology of the nanowires was examined. The oxidation time had no effect on the diameter of the nanowires, while it had a great effect on the density and the length of the nanowires. The density and the length of the nanowires increased, and then decreased, with increasing oxidation time. The oxidation temperature had a tremendous effect on the size-distribution as well as the density of the nanowires. When the oxidation temperature was $700^{\circ}C$, uniform size-distribution and high density of the nanowires was achieved. At lower and higher temperatures, the density of the nanowires was lower, and they displayed a broader size-distribution. It is suggested that the $Cu_2O$ nanowires were grown via a vapor-solid mechanism because no catalyst particles were observed at the tips of the nanowires.
