Digital mapping project of topographic map was conducted according to the master plan for the development of the National Geographic Information System, to manage national geo-spatial information efficiently in rapidly changing information technology society. It needed to correct and supplement digital map because of time pressure, sudden urbanization and users'need. In this study, after the framework data of thematic map was given a definition based on data model of National Base Map, data model of topographic-cadastral map was presented. Also data format and meta data suited to presented data model of topographic-cadastral map were presented so that they could be used in various fields.
Landuse maps are prepared from satellite imagery and field observations were conducted at various locations in the study area. Compared to the field data and NDVI and RVI thematic maps, NDVI is better than RVI, because it compensates for changing illumination conditions, surface slope, aspect and other factors. Clouds, water and snow have negative values for RVI and NDVI. Rock and bare soils have similar reflectance in both NIR and visible band, so RVI and NDVI are near zero. In forest areas with good vegetation cover, NDVI is high and landslide occurrence is less. But if annual and biennial vegetations are present and if cultivation practices are changed frequently, NDVI is medium and landslide occurrence is moderate. In areas where deforestation and settlement is in progress, NDVI is less and landslide occurrence is more. The NDVI FCC thematic map may be used as an important layer in GIS application for landslide studies. Analyzing other layers such as slope, rainfall, soil, geology, drainage, lineament, etc with NDVI FCC layer will give a better idea about the identity of landslide prone areas.
GeoWeb services deliver various thematic information related to geographic positions over the internet GeoWeb services needs to provide efficient accessibilities to geographic contents by interaction with users through the map graphic elements. SVG, which is an application of XML, gives rich DOM I/F for interaction with graphic objects. In this study map servers and client viewers are implemented to serve SVG map available on the fixed mobile internet computing environments. Map servers are made compliant with OGC WMS and WFS specifications and SVG map viewers are developed for both Windows PC and WinCE PDA.
In any applications using various types of spatial data, it is very important to account for the scale differences among available data sets and to change the scale to the target one as well. In this paper, we propose to use a geostatistical downscaling approach based on vaiorgram deconvloution and block simulation to generate fine-scale categorical thematic maps from coarse-scale fraction data. First, an iterative variogram deconvolution method is applied to estimate a point-support variogram model from a block-support variogram model. Then, both a direct sequential simulation based on area-to-point kriging and the estimated point-support variogram are applied to produce alternative fine-scale fraction realizations. Finally, a maximum a posteriori decision rule is applied to generate the fine-scale categorical thematic maps. These analytical steps are illustrated through a case study of land-cover mapping only using the block fraction data of thematic classes without point data. Alternative fine-scale fraction maps by the downscaling method presented in this study reproduce the coarse-scale block fraction values. The final fine-scale land-cover realizations can reflect overall spatial patterns of the reference land-cover map, thus providing reasonable inputs for the impact assessment in change of support problems.

This study is focused on development of generalization processing for 1/25,000 digital mapping using l/5,000 digital map. The generalization processing for digital map included in spatial and attribute information consists of 3 steps. The first, elimination of layer which is not included in 1/25,000 feature code. The second, classification of 8 feature codes. The third, merging of spatial and attribute information. Therefore using generalization workflow developed in this project, automatic generalization system will develope optimal in the future and also contribute product to small scale digital map and thematic map.
The study region encompasses about 5,900$km^2$ including the topographic maps of Kimhae, Pusan, Miryang, Yangsan, Panguhjin, Tonggok, Uhnyang, Ulsan, Youngchon, Kyongju, Pulguksa, and Kampo, all at a scale of 1:50,000. The paper discusses how to have prepared the four thematic maps, landslide and unstable slope distribution map, slope classification amp, soil classification map, and lineament density map. Using all the above maps and GIS, the relative slope-stability map for the study regiun was produced at a scale of 1:100,000 ; the map can be utilized for the regional land-use planning in the study region.

Car simulation by TRANSIMS is able to rapidly analyze the broad area based on CA(Cellular Automata) theory, which is the great advantage compared to other existing programs. As the source code of TRANSIMS is open, it may be modified by incorporating the network and traffic characteristics. This study uses the traffic thematic map built in the Korean National Traffic DB(KTDB) center among input date used for building network data of TRANSIMS. However, because the traffic thematic map is not composed as the type required by TRANSIMS, it was corrected and complemented to build a network, and the traffic volume at arterial roads and the traffic volume at each direction of the intersection was calculated through simulation for the area of Suseong-Gu, Daegu Metro. This was compared to the actual traffic volume. As a result of the simulation, it shows error from 14% to 42% at intersection, and from 3% to 8% at arterial roads. This result is very satisfactory because the entire traffic volume of Daegu Metro was not considered, and the tendency of drivers avoiding path due to construction on certain section, the status of road surface and chronic congestion was not reflected.
Geological map and data are needed for land use planning, resources development, geological hazard prevention, environment protection and education, Since the nationwide geological database in Korea has not been constructed yet, there are many problems in using the geological map and data. There are many problems such a stratigraphy unestablishment, map conservation and edge matching in geological paper map. Therefore it is difficult to construct the geological map database, but the geological map database must be constructed as soon as possible as one of national thematic map. In this study, geological maps of pilot area such as Ansung geological map on a scale of 1:50,000, Busan on a scale of 1:250,000, Namchang on a scale of 1:25,000 and the whole Korean peninsula on a scale of 1:1,000,000 were designed and constructed to database using Geographic Information System(GIS). In addition the geological map management program was developed by GIS program. The digital geological maps were produced using the constructed geological database. The database could be of access through Internet World Wide Web(WWW) environment and be distributed in Compact Disk(CD).
