Dynamic Stability Analysis of a Single Cam Drive Mechanism (단일 캠 구동기구의 동 안정성 해석)

  • The dynamic stability of a single cam drive mechanism is investigated by an analytical approach. The nonlinear differential equation describing the motion of a single cam drive mechanism is linearized with respect to the imput power angle, and results a linear parametric differential equation. The instability region is examined by applying the harmonic balance method to linearized parametric equation having periodicity. Through the dynamic stability analysis of a single cam drive mechanism, it is observed that the parametric resonances exist and the instability regions tend to become wide as increasing the drive speed and follower mass.

  • This paper presents steering controller for unintended lane departure avoidance under crosswind using vehicle lateral disturbance estimation. Vehicles exposed to crosswind are more likely to deviate from lane, which can lead to accidents. To prevent this, a lateral disturbance estimator and steering controller for compensating disturbance have been proposed. The disturbance affecting lateral motion of the vehicle is estimated using Kalman filter, which is on the basis of the 2-DOF bicycle model and Electric Power Steering (EPS) module. A sliding mode controller is designed to avoid unintended the lane departure using the estimated disturbance. The controller is based on the 2-DOF bicycle model and the vision-based error dynamic model. A torque controller is used to provide appropriate assist torque to driver. The performance of proposed estimator and controller is evaluated via computer simulation using Matlab/Simulink.

  • Renewable energy resources play an important part in the world's future. Renewable energy sources have the following components: biomass, geothermal, solar thermal, directs solar, wind, tidal and hydropower. Hydropower is still the most efficient way to generate electricity worldwide. Hydropower projects can contribute as a cheap energy source, as well to encourage the development of small industries across a wide range of new technology; furthermore hydropower systems use the energy in flowing and falling water to produce electricity or mechanical energy. Hydropower systems are classified as large, medium, small, mini and micro according to their installed power generation capacity, as do the following components: water turbines, control mechanisms and electrical transmissions. In this article a review of small hydropower systems has been done on the principles surrounding the fundamentals of hydraulic engineering, the fundamentals of hydrology, identification of sites and economic analysis.

  • The demand for sailing yacht is increasing in consonance the improvement of people's live. These yachts can be dually propelled by wind and by diesel engine power. A singing (humming, whistling) phenomenon induced on the propeller was discovered on a 55-foot catamaran sailing yacht. As a result, an increase in the structural vibration of the stern tube room and propulsion system with abnormal noise was detected due to this flow. In this study, the cause of the phenomenon is investigated and its possible countermeasures proposed.

A Study on Heat-Treatment Process Scheduling for Heavy Forged Products using MIP (열처리 공정의 생산스케줄 수립과 적용에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to formulate and solve the scheduling problem to heat-treatment process in forging process and apply it to industries. Heat-treatment is a common process in manufacturing heavy forged products in ship engines and wind power generators. Total complete time of the schedule depends on how to group parts and assign them into heat furnace. Efficient operation of heat-treatment process increases the productivity of whole production system while scheduling the parts into heat-treatment furnace is a combinatorial problem which is known as an NP-hard problem. So the scheduling, on manufacturing site, relies on engineers' experience. To improve heat-treatment process schedule, this study formulated it into an MIP mathematical model which minimizes total complete time. Three methods were applied to example problems and the results were compared to each other. In case of small problems, optimal solutions were easily found. In case of big problems, feasible solutions were found and that feasible solutions were very close to lower bound of the solutions. ILOG OPL Studio 5.5 was used in this study.

  • This study aims to presents the applicability of economic measures for renewable energy The basic principle and method of economic analyses were investigated and total life cycle cost considering environmental costs according to $CO_2$ generation. In case study, adaptation of new small wind power system to buildings were proved to produce a profit if it is considered the environmental cost and increment of energy prices. And so the economic measures can be used not only for the investment decisions for economic analysis but also for the comparative analysis of environmental cost and economic profits.

  • Recently, for the purposes of reducing carbon dioxide(CO2) emissions in the island area, countermeasures to decrease the operation rate of diesel generator(DG) and to increase one of renewable energy sources(RES) is being studied. In particular, the demonstration and installation of stand-alone micro-grid(MG) system which is composed of DG, RES and energy storage system(ESS) has been implemented in some island areas such as Gapa-do, Gasa-do and Ulleung-do island. However, many power quality(PQ) problems may be occurred due to an intermittent output of RES including photovoltaic(PV) system and wind power(WP) system in a normal operating of constant voltage & constant frequency(CVCF) inverter-based MG system. Therefore, this paper presents a modeling of the 30kW scale MG system using PSCAD/EMTDC, and also implements a 30kW scale CVCF inverter-based MG system as test devices to analyze normal operating characteristics of MG system. From the simulation and test results, it is confirmed that the proposed methods are useful and practical tools to improve PQ problems such as under-voltage, over-voltage and unbalanced load in CVCF inverter-based MG system.

  • Exhaust system used in toilet and cooking place of high riser public house is roof fan of two basic types : natural roof ventilator and natural/forced roof ventilator. Natural/forced roof ventilator has a motor in the rotary shaft. There are many high riser public house in Korea. These buildings were not viewed as being major contributors to exhaust pollutants producted in indoor. It was because many engineers thought that exhaust in high riser building depend on stack effect. This study investigates on stack pressure determined by exterior pressure and the difference pressure control in exhaust stack used in high riser public house. This paper focuses mainly on the effect of the time interval for power supply of motor installed in roof fan with function of natural wind velocity and of exhaust air volume of toilet. It is observed there are higher exhaust efficiency than the existing natural roof ventilator.

  • As the production of new and renewable energy such as solar and wind power has diversified, microgrid systems that can simultaneously produce and consume have been introduced. In general, a decrease in electricity prices through solar power is expected in summer, so producer protection is required. In this paper, we propose a transparent and safe gift power transaction system between users using blockchain in a microgrid environment. A futures is simply a contract in which the buyer is obligated to buy electricity or the seller is obliged to sell electricity at a fixed price and a predetermined futures price. This system proposes a futures trading algorithm that searches for futures prices and concludes power transactions with automated operations without user intervention by using a smart contract, a reliable executable code within the blockchain network. If a power producer thinks that the price during the peak production period is likely to decrease during production planning, it sells futures first in the futures market and buys back futures during the peak production period to make a profit in the spot market. losses can be compensated. In addition, if there is a risk that the price of electricity will rise when a sales contract is concluded, a broker can compensate for a loss in the spot market by first buying futures in the futures market and liquidating futures when the sales contract is fulfilled.

  • In Korea, over 97% of local energy demand is imported from other countries. And we have to lift the energy independence level up to 5% with replacement energy(renewable energy) such as solar, wind..etc. by 2011 according to the energy agreement made in Kyoto Protocol. So, we proposed some opinions such as the better improvement of solar thermal industry the people' view, cooperation among industry/university/research institutes, remote control/maintenance and government's legislature and supporting system etc.
