Auto industry has employed resistance spot welding(RSW) to join steel sheets for structural rigidity of automobile body. Driven by the need to reduce weight and fuel consumption, car companies have been evaluating aluminum intensive vehicles(AIVs) as a way to reduce vehicle weight without downsizing. During the transition from all steel-construction vehicle body to aluminum intensive body, joining aluminum to steel sheets emerges as a serious contender in automobile body. This paper deals with application of transition material to RSW aluminum to steel. Placing transition material insert between the aluminum/steel interface was found very effective to overcome physical incompatibility between aluminum and steel. Use of transition insert allows for two separate weld nuggets to be formed in their respective aluminum/aluminum and steel/steel interfaces. This RSW processes was monitored with the aid of dynamic resistance sampling. Typical patterns in sampled dynamic resistance curves indicated formation of sound nugget. The growth of two separate nuggets was examined by micro-cross section test.
Recently the usage of galvanealed steel sheet was increased in order to protect corrosion in automobile industry. So, the alternative of steel sheet was investigated in a point of formability. Generally it was known that uncoated steel sheet has better mechanical properties than coated steel sheet. But, contrary results were sometimes occurred in workplace. This reason is the effect of friction. In this study, the formability of steel sheet considering friction characteristics was investigated with tensile test, cup drawing test and finite element method.
Korea holds the first rank in the world for shipbuilding industry, we should develop the welding technology which is fundamental technique in order to keep the first rank. In this study, therefore, welding characteristics of shipbuilding steel using arc and laser were compered experimentally to apply laser-arc hybrid welding system in the heavy industry including shipbuilding as next generation welding process.
The TMCP steel has expanded in the marine structure during manufacturing process because of its excellent weld-ability and impact toughness. In the case of merchant ships, coverage of TMCP steel has been used widely on over DH36 Classifications material. The line heating process is applied to the outer surface of the steel plate for the shipbuilding. In this study, We compared between TMCP and normalizing steel for shipbuilding by analyzing some basic data through performing the natural cooling after the line heating. The experimental results show the angular misalignment changes in line heating. Heated surface of normalizing steel material expanded to $-0.3^{\circ}$ and reduced to $+0.2^{\circ}$ after cooling. And during cooling at $194^{\circ}C$ for 1,500 seconds, Angular Misalignment began from - direction to + direction, passed the critical point to the default at 2,200 seconds and did not take place any more at $103^{\circ}C$ after the 2,700 seconds. Angular Misalignment results of TMCP steels and Normalizing steel material show same angular misalignment lasted 1,200 seconds, TMCP steel has given more expansion and contraction angle which is $0.2^{\circ}$ than that of the Normalizing steel. Length difference between expansion and contraction is about 0.3 mm.
The output of Stirling engine is influenced by the regenerator effectiveness. The regenerator effectiveness is influenced by heat transfer and flow friction loss of the regenerator matrix. In this paper, in order to provide a basic data for the design of regenerator matrix, characteristics of heat transfer and flow friction loss were investigated by a packed method of matrix in the oscillating flow as the same condition of operation in a Stirling engine. As matrices, 6 kinds of steel wires, 4 kinds of combined steel wires, 8 kinds of combined steel wires with screen meshes were used. The results are summarized as follows; Among 6 kinds of steel wires $({\phi}0.7\;mm,\;{\phi}0.9\;mm,\;{\phi}1.2\;mm,\;{\phi}\;1.6\;mm,\;{\phi}2.0\;mm,\;{\phi}2.7\;mm),$ the two steel wires $({\phi}0.7\;mm,\;{\phi}0.9\;mm)$ showed the highest in effectiveness. Among 4 kinds of combined steel wires $({\phi}l.6-{\phi}l.2\;mm,\;{\phi}1.2-{\phi}l.6\;mm,\;{\phi}0.9-{\phi}l.2\;mm,\;{\phi}l.2-{\phi}0.9\;mm),\;the\;{\phi}1.2-{\phi}0.9\;mm$ showed the highest in effectiveness. Among 8 kinds of combined steel wires with screen meshes $(150-{\phi}0.9\;mm,\;150-{\phi}l.2\;mm,\;{\phi}0.9\;mm-150,\;{\phi}1.2\;mm-150,\;150-{\phi}0.9\;mm-150,\;150-{\phi}1.2\;mm-150,\;150-{\phi}l.6\;mm-150,\;150-{\phi}2.0\;mm-150),\;the\;{\phi}l.2\;mm-150$ showed the highest in effectiveness.
This study analyses the energy consumption increase by using a physical production index (PPI) based decomposition method. The energy efficiency of the Korean industry deteriorated to a large extent in the 1992 to 1997 period. This outcome, however, does not contradict the result of a previous study that the physical energy intensities (measured by energy use per production unit) decreased in four Korean energy intensive industries such as steel, cement, petrochemical and pulp and paper in the same period. Although the physical energy intensities in four industries considered decreased significantly, the energy efficiency of the Korean industry deteriorated because the increase in the value-added production was smaller than that in the physical production except for the steel industry. This outcome suggests that the reduction in the physical energy intensity alone will not result in reducing the economic energy intensity, thereby reducing the increase in the energy consumption of the Korean industry. Therefore, it necessitates to restructure the Korean industry towards a higher value-added production and to strengthen energy efficiency improvement efforts in the Korean industry. As the overinvestment in the energy intensive industries caused a deep price fall of Korean products and a reduction of the value added of the Korean industry and with it an increase in the economic energy intensity, a decrease in this intensity will highly depend on reducing the overcapacity in the energy intensive industries which was partly responsible for the currency and economic crisis of 1997.
Steel tubular buckling controlled braces are well known as being simple, practical and cost-effective lateral force resisting systems. Although these system features have gained the attention of the researchers over the last decade, steel tubular buckling controlled braces currently have limited application. Indeed, only a few steel tubes tightly encased within each other exist in the steel industry. In this paper, a new and practical design method is proposed in order to better promote the widespeared application for current steel tubular buckling controlled brace applications. In order to reach this goal, a holed-adapter made with polyoxymethylene adaptable to all round and square steel sections, was developed to use as infiller. The research program presents designing, producing and displacement controlled cyclic loading tests of a conventional tubular brace and a buckling controlled composite brace. In addition, numerical analysis was carried out to compare the experimental results. As a result of the experimental studies, buckling was controlled up to 0.88 % drift ratio and the energy dissipation capacity of the conventional tubular brace increased 1.46 times due to the proposed design. The main conclusion of this research is that polyoxymethylene is a highly suitable material for the production of steel tubular buckling controlled braces.
TRIP steel has got attention in automobile industry because of its high strength and high formability. However, the information on deformation behavior of TRIP steel, including bending and springback, is not enough until now. In this research, the V-die bending experiment and analysis have been done to obtain the information of springback of TRIP steel. And a new numerical method, where elastic modulus is varied with the change of the strain, was suggested. Tensile test for TRIP steel was done to get tensile properties as well as strain dependency of elastic modulus of the material. Strain-dependency of elastic modulus was used the numerical analysis of V-die bending and unbending process to predict springback amount. The results were compared with experiment, showing reasonable agreement. Through the analysis of V-die bending as well as draw bending of TRIP steel, the proposed scheme with variable elastic modulus was proven to well predict the deformation behavior of TRIP steel during bending and springback.
The automobile industry is a wide range of related industries, including parts manufacturing and vehicle assembly, press processing is an essential element in making automobiles. Press processing is a processing method for metal sheets that has relatively high dimensional and shape precision and is suitable for mass production. It refers to processing by attaching a special tool, a mold, to a press machine. Recently, the automobile industry is attempting to reduce the weight of automobiles in order to reduce carbon emissions due to global warming, and the use of high-strength steel sheets, which are lighter than general structural steel sheets, is a natural trend. Shear processing is required to use high-strength steel, and the shape of the shear surface created by shear processing has a significant impact on the quality of the automobile. Therefore, various methods are being attempted to improve the share surface during shear processing. Among them, shaving processing is a method of shearing the primary shearing area again, and it is difficult to obtain an accurate answer because complex deformation occurs in the microscopic shear area. Therefore, in this study, the effect of machining allowance on shaving processing was analyzed using the finite element method using high-strength steel plate (SPFH590), and the differences were compared and examined through actual experiments under the same conditions.
