  • With the gradual advancement of IT, passive work processes are automated and the overall quality of life has greatly improved. This is made possible by the formation of an organic topology between a wide variety of real-life smart devices. To serve these diverse smart devices, businesses or users are using the cloud. The services in the cloud are divided into Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS). SaaS runs on PaaS, and PaaS runs on IaaS. Since IaaS is the basis of all services, an algorithm is required to operate virtualization resources efficiently. Among them, desktop resource virtualization is used for resource high availability of unused state time of existing desktop PC. Clustering of hierarchical structures is important for high availability of these resources. In addition, it is very important to select a suitable algorithm because many clustering algorithms are mainly used depending on the distribution ratio and environment of the desktop PC. If various attempts are made to find an algorithm suitable for desktop resource virtualization in an operating environment, a great deal of power, time, and manpower will be incurred. Therefore, this paper proposes a resource clustering simulator for cluster selection of desktop virtualization. This provides a clustering simulation to properly select clustering algorithms and apply elements in different environments of desktop PCs.

  • Vehicular cloud computing is a new emerging technology that can provide drivers with cloud services to enable various vehicular applications. A vehicular cloud is defined as a set of vehicles that share their own resources. Vehicles should collaborate with each other to construct vehicular clouds through vehicle-to-vehicle communications. Since collaborating vehicles to construct the vehicular cloud have different speeds, directions and locations respectively, the vehicular cloud is constructed in multi-hop communication range. Due to intermittent wireless connectivity and low density of vehicles with the limited resources, the construction of vehicular cloud with multi-hop communications has become challenging in vehicular environments in terms of the service success ratio, the service delay, and the transmitted packet number. Thus, we propose a multi-hop vehicular cloud construction protocol that increases the service success ratio and decreases the service delay and the transmitted packet number. The proposed protocol uses a connection time-based intermediate vehicle selection scheme to reduce the cloud failure probability of multi-hop vehicular cloud. Simulation results conducted in various environments verify that the proposed protocol achieves better performance than the existing protocol.

  • Since late 1970s, water quality monitoring had been performed in Korea by various agencies according to their own needs and objectives. Lacking of consistency in principles, such diverse operation has been producing difficulties in management of information on water quality parameters. These difficulties resulted from the fact that the expansion of monitoring networks had been based not on systematic methodology with considerations on scientifically established planning objectives but on personal experiences and subjective judgments in locating monitoring stations. This study aimed, therefore, to develop a selection methodology for locating monitoring stations to provide various informations on water quality to satisfy various monitoring objectives such as understanding short and long term trends of water quality, monitoring violations to water quality standards, identifying external causes and sources affecting water quality changes, supporting utilization of water resources, examining short-term variations in water quality through a concentrated investigation, estimating pollution loads from each unit watershed, supporting water quality modeling, and establishing informative systems for water resources management. Also, we applied the proposed methodology and presented an improved expansion plan for water quality monitoring networks in the Han River.

  • Embedded systems have a set of tasks to execute. These tasks can be implemented either on application specific hardware or as software running on a specific processor. The design of an embedded system involves the selection of hardware software resources, Partition of tasks into hardware and software, and performance evaluation. An accurate estimation of execution time for extreme cases (best and worst case) is important for hardware/software codesign. A tighter estimation of the execution time bound nay allow the use of a slower processor to execute the code and may help lower the system cost. In this paper, we consider an ARM-based embedded system and developed a tool to estimate the tight boundary of execution time of a task with loop bounds and any additional program path information. The tool we developed is based on an exiting timing analysis tool named 'Cinderella' which currently supports i960 and m68k architectures. We add a module to handle ARM ELF object file, which extracts control flow and debugging information, and a module to handle ARM instruction set so that the new tool can support ARM processor. We validate the tool by comparing the estimated bound of execution time with the run-time execution time measured by ARMulator for a selected bechmark programs.

  • This study attempts to derive an economic analysis model for journal evaluation and conducts a case analysis based on the model. Total costs are calculated and include administrative fees (such as binding, ordering, claiming, etc.) and subscription costs. The model quantifies qualitative benefits to users, a utility that combines usage data that has also been evaluated in the existing economic analysis models. The model is designed by the usage statistics of the web-based electronic journals, which have become important resources for research. Rankings are assigned based on how items are utilized to the goal of the mother institution. In the case study based on the KDI School Library, the highest ranking off was assigned to journals that patrons used for citation in their outputs. For journals that were used background information, i.e., full text downloading or browsing , each was assigned ranking of 2 and 1, respectively. According to the analysis, the top 20 journals provided 75% of the entire library utility, showing different user behaviors among different cohorts. We expect that the model makes it possible for librarians to measure the value of journals. It can provide a basic tool for journal selection, particularly in special libraries with custom needs.

  • In this study, photosynthetic parameters such as the net photosynthesis rate, stomatal conductance, intercellular $CO_2$ concentration, and transpiration rate were examined in selected ginseng varieties and/or lines that are resistant (Yunpoong, HTIR 1, HTIR 2, and HTIR 3) and susceptible (Chunpoong) to high temperature injury (HTI). The net photosynthesis rate increased with the increase in the light intensity in all the HTI-resistant and -susceptible ginseng lines with a light saturation point of $200\;{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$, except for Yunpoong that had a light saturation point of $400\;{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$. At the light saturation point, the net photosynthesis rate in July was highest in HTIR 3, at $4.2\;{\mu}mol\;CO_2\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$, and was lowest in Yunpoong, HTIR 1, Chunpoong, and HTIR 2, in that order, at 1.9 to $3.7\;{\mu}mol\;CO_2\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$. The net photosynthesis rate in August was highest in Yunpoong at $5.9\;{\mu}mol\;CO_2\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$, and lowest in HTIR 1 and HTIR 3 ($4.5\;{\mu}mol\;CO_2\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$) and in other lines, in that order, at 2.8 to $2.9\;{\mu}mol\;CO_2\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$. The stomatal conductance in July was highest in HTIR 3 (0.055 mol $H_2O\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$) and Yunpoong, Chunpoong, HTIR 1, and HTIR 2 were 0.038, 0.037, 0.031, and 0.017 in that orders. In August, meanwhile, HTIR 1 showed the highest as 0.075, and followed by HTIR 3, Chungpoong, and HTIR 2 with 0.070, 0.047, and 0.023, respectively. The intercellular $CO_2$ concentration at the light saturation point in July and August was much lower in HTIR 2 at 139 and $185\;{\mu}mol\;mol^{-1}$ than in the other ginseng lines at 217 to 257 and 274 to $287\;{\mu}mol\;mol^{-1}$, respectively. The transpiration rate in July and August was higher in the HTI-resistant lines of Yunpoong, HTIR 1, and/or HTIR 3 at 0.83 to 1.03 and 1.67 to 2.10 mol $H_2O\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$ than in the other ginseng lines at 0.27 to 0.79 mol $H_2O\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$ and 0.51-1.65 mol $H_2O\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$, respectively. Conclusively, all the photosynthetic parameters that were examined in this study were generally higher in the HTI-resistant ginseng lines than in the HTI-susceptible lines, except for HTIR 2, and were much higher in August than in July, especially in the resistant ginseng lines. All these results can be used to provide basic information for the selection of HTI-resistant ginseng lines and the application of cultural practices that are efficient for ginseng growth, based on the photosynthetic characteristics of the lines.

  • Current medical delivery system in Korea has been distinguished into three types; primary medical facilities, secondary facilities, and tertiary facilities since 1989. This system prevents the waste of medical resources along with the maintenance of balance according to the medical treatment subjects. However, it is inevitable that the imbalance of the medical services among regions has been generated due to the concentration of the medical facilities on large cities. In this regard, this study attempted to evaluate the quality of the primary medical services, emphasizing accessibility and convenience targeting Jinju city, a small and medium-sized city, based on the distribution characteristics of the space. The study results show that cohesion index about the spatial distribution of the primary care facilities was 0~0.25. It conducted a correlation analysis between the location of the hospitals and users, based on the study results. Finally, it is demonstrated the correlation between the location of the hospitals and users tended to be low, while, the cohesion of the Oriental medicine clinics was high in other treatment subjects, and the accessibility to the Oriental medicine clinics was the highest because most Oriental medicine clinics were distributed to the places where users were many. However, on account that the locations of the medical facilities and users were varied in other treatment subjects except for the Oriental medicine clinics, problems were generated in terms of the accessibility. Therefore, it is judged that the preparation of the measures to improve the selection of lots in consideration of users, who use the primary medical services, is required.

  • Purpose: On August 16, 2021, the Taliban established the Taliban regime after conquering capital Kabul of the Afghan by using the strong alliance of international terrorist organizations. The Taliban carried out terrorism targeting the Korean people, including the kidnapping of Kim Seon-il in 2004, the abduction of a member of the Saemmul Church in 2007, and the attack on Korean Provincial Reconstruction Team in 2009. Therefore, this research has shown the possibility of Taliban terrorism in Korea. Method: Based on the statistical data on terrorism that occurred in Afghanistan, Taliban's various terrorist activities such as tactics, strategies, and weapons are examined. Consequently, the target facilities and the type of terrorist attacks are analyzed. Result: The Taliban are targeting the Afghan government as their main target of attack, and IS and the Taliban differ in their selection of targets for terrorism. Conclusion: From the result of this research, we recommend Korea need to reinforce the counter terrorism system in soft targets. Because If the Taliban, which has seized control of Afghanistan, and IS, which has established a worldwide terrorism network, cooperate to threaten domestic multi-use facilities with bombing, the Republic of Korea may face a terrorist crisis with insufficient resources and counter-terrorism related countermeasures.

  • This report describes methods for selecting informative single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), and the development of an online Solanaceae genome database, using 234 tomato resequencing data entries deposited in the NCBI SRA database. The 126 accessions of Solanum lycopersicum, 68 accessions of Solanum lycopersicum var. cerasiforme, and 33 accessions of Solanum pimpinellifolium, which are frequently used for breeding, and some wild-species tomato accessions were included in the analysis. To select tag-SNPs, we identified 29,504,960 SNPs in 234 tomatoes and then separated the SNPs in the genic and intergenic regions according to gene annotation. All tag-SNP were selected from non-synonymous SNPs among the SNPs present in the gene region and, as a result, we obtained tag-SNP from 13,845 genes. When there were no non-synonymous SNPs in the gene, the genes were selected from synonymous SNPs. The total number of tag-SNPs selected was 27,539. To increase the usefulness of the information, a Solanaceae genome database website, TGsol (http://tgsol. seeders.co.kr/), was constructed to allow users to search for detailed information on resources, SNPs, haplotype, and tag-SNPs. The user can search the tag-SNP and flanking sequences for each gene by searching for a gene name or gene position through the genome browser. This website can be used to efficiently search for genes related to traits or to develop molecular markers.
