A Study on Dynamic Characteristics of Electrical Fire Prevention Control Devices with a lamp and a motor load (전등 부하 및 전동기 부하시 전기화재예방 제어장치의 동작 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, the occurrences of electrical fire have been suppressed by an earth leakage breaker(ELB), a no fuse breaker(NFB) and a fuse in case of an earth leakage, a short circuit and an over current. But it is impossible for the ELB to break the circuit in the case of the failure of pressure contacts on connecting points and the momentary short circuit. Therefore, it is require to study the constructive problem of the ELB. In this paper, we have developed the auxiliary control device, electrical fire prevention control device(EFPCD), of the ELB. And we have tested the operation characteristics of the ELB according to the load(R, L) As a result of this experiment, we could prevent the electrical fire due to the spark and the overheat occurring in the failure of pressure contacts on connecting points and the momentary short circuit.

  • Recently, the occurrences of electrical fire have been suppressed by a residual current protective devices(RCD), a molded case circuit breaker(MCCB) and a fuse in case of an earth leakage, a short circuit and an over current. But it is impossible for the RCD to break the circuit in the case of the conductor fractures, the failure of pressure contacts on connecting points and the momentary short circuit of low voltage wiring. Therefore, it is require to study the constructive problem of the RCD. In this paper, we have tested the operation characteristics of the RCD according to the R load and R-L load in the conductor fractures, the failure of pressure contacts on connecting points and the momentary short circuit of low voltage wiring.

  • Recently, the spark and the overheat due to in the failure of pressure contacts on connecting points and the momentary short circuit have been the major causes of electrical fire because these may cause the deposition and the graphite of insulating materials in electrical wiring system. Also, because in these cases the current is a surge one, the losses and faults of a communication, a home appliances, a computer and a measuring instrument may occur. Especially, in such cases, we are very difficult to detect the failure of pressure contacts on connecting points and the momentary short circuit. In this paper, we have developed an auxiliary control device, the electrical fire prevention control device(EFPCD), of an earth leakage breaker(ELB). And we can pre-vent the electrical fire caused by the spark and the overheat occurring in the failure of pressure contacts in connecting points and the momentary short circuit with the EFPCD.

  • Overhead transmission lines are mainly crossing mountainous area. They are easily affected in weathers like typhoon, strong wind, lightning, heavy rain, or heavy snow. Sometimes these weathers cause transmission line faults. A lightning flashover is most often fault. Nowadays lightning density in KOREA is growing high and lightning flashovers occur more often. A lightning flashover on transmission line is mostly cleared by momentary operation of a circuit breaker, so power failure happens rarely. However, when both circuits trip simultaneously due to the lightning flashovers on double circuit transmission line, short time power failure and voltage drop happen. KEPCO has used transmission line arresters to avoid double circuit simultaneous trip out since 2003. And transmission line arresters cannot be installed with KEPCO's present metal fittings, so various fittings have been used for each transmission line arrester manufacturer. This paper introduces development and standardization of arc-horn and metal fittings for transmission line arrester which can be used for both existing lines and new lines in KEPCO.
