This research aims to investigate into company workers' general characteristics and their awareness of the hygiene of the mouth and practice of it, in order to prepare schemes to improve the hygiene of their mouth. The findings of the research are listed in the following: First, the workers have a high level of awareness of the effect of tooth-brushing to prevent periodontal diseases but a low degree of awareness of its effect to prevent decayed teeth and of the necessity of mouth hygienic supplies. Second, they have a high level of awareness of the necessity and importance of scaling, but most of them do not have their teeth scaled periodically. To repeat, they have a high level of awareness of the necessity of dental examination, but not many of them put such awareness of theirs into practice. Third, married workers have a higher level of awareness of the hygiene of their mouth than unmarried ones do. The higher concern they have about the hygiene of their mouth, the more awareness they have of the hygiene of their mouth. Fourth, the higher monthly average income they have, the more frequently they put into practice their awareness of the hygiene of their mouth. And the poorer hygiene of their mouth they have, the more strongly they put into practice their awareness of the hygiene of their mouth.
Purpose: This research aims to investigate into company workers' awareness of scaling and related factors and provide basic materials for setting up appropriate policies to improve the hygiene of the mouth of industrial workers and developing training programs for the worker's hygiene of their mouth, as part of researches to establish schemes for improving the workers's hygiene of their mouth. Method: Questionnaire was conducted by convenience sampling for 220 office workers belonging to H Group located in Seoul Metropolitan city over about 5 weeks between December 17, 2007 and January 20, 2008. The questionnaire for this study was constructed in consideration of general characteristics of the subjects, behaviors of the dental management. and scaling. The collected questionnaires were electronically processed using SPSS 12.0. Result: The followings are the findings of this research. First, in general, scaling is experienced by male unmarried worker in their 40s. whose monthly average income is 1.00-1.99 million won and have little interest in the hygiene of their mouth and, consequently. whose hygiene of the mouth is not good. Second, scaling is experienced once every six months by the worker in their 50s or older, who are college graduates and have much interest in the hygiene of their mouth and, consequently. whose hygiene of the mouth is good. Third. scaling is not periodically conducted because of high costs of it in terms of almost every parameter of general characteristics. Fourth, they have correct knowledge of scaling since they regard it as 'removing of plaque and tartar' in terms of every parameter of general characteristics. Fifth, the workers' sex (pE0.05), hygienic condition of the mouth (pE0.05) and knowledge of scaling (pE0.001) have a significant effect on their scaling experience. Conclusion: It is considered that dental health management should be continued by training of the importance of prevention through scaling as measure for dental health promotion of workers.
Objectives: The purpose of the study was to examine the influencing factors of self-reported dry mouth in the employees in social welfare facilities. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 260 employees in social welfare facilities from January 5 to 30, 2015 by convenience sampling method. Except 25 incomplete answers, 215 data were analyzed by t test, one way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient analysis, and multiple linear regression analysis using SPSS 180. program. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects, health-related characteristics, whole body dryness and self-reported dry mouth. The oral health-related quality of life was measured by five point Likert scale, and a higher score indicated a lower quality of life. Results: The self-reported dry mouth in the employees in the social welfare facilities varied by the general health status, stress, oral health status and oral malodor. The self-reported dry mouth was closely related to the quality of life and the four subfactors including dryness of skin, eye, lip and nasal mucosa. The quality of life had the influence on the self-reported dry mouth, nasal mucosa dryness, eye dryness, and oral malodor in order. Conclusions: The self-reported dry mouth was closely related to whole body dryness and the quality of life. It is necessary to develop the quality of life improvement programs that prevent and manage the dry mouth and whole body dryness in the employees in the social welfare facilities.
This study was done to investigate the negative word-of-mouth style and effect of communication with negative word-of-mouth from dental clinic patients. Data were collected from 223 dental clinic patients living in Seoul and GyeongGi-Do. The study was collected from October 15th to October 29th, 2007 with self-recording questionnaires. The results of this study were as follows. First of all, in the characteristic of relationships category, subject who were negative word-of-mouth was more 'persuader person' than others. The results showed that the general characteristics of subjects was effective factor of word-of-mouth. Secondly, the behavior scale which was based of negative word-of-mouth was not suitable of the satisfaction of dental clinic service. This results meant the low satisfaction of dental services haven't relation with negative word-of-mouth. Thirdly, 33% of people who have complaints spread negative word-of-mouth. Finally, the main reason of dissatisfaction was long-waiting time for dental clinic service. The results showed the adjustment of dental clinic system and staffs service will prevent negative word-of-mouth spread.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between cause and the element of mouth odor through measurement and identification of mouth odor and is to apply to effective method for elimination of halitosis, Subjects were 150 people who visited Dong Pusan College and lived in Pusan Cross-sectional survey was used and mouth odor was measured by Oralchroma. Oral examination proceeded with status of tongue plaque distribution and calculus index, Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS version 13.0 for window Among 150 people, 67.3% subjects thought they had halitosis, 89.3% people felt that their mouth odor were the severest as soon as wake-up, Tongue was serious place for halitosis by 53.3% subjects Methylmercaptan and dimethyl sulfide showed the highest correlation by 0.549 index score, Moreover, methyl mercaptan was observed the correlation with brushing time in 0.190 index score and with food intake in 0.177(P<0.05). In conclusion, brushing time and food intake were correlated with mouth odor.
Objectives : This study was to investigate the use of mouth-guards and maxillofacial injuries and to examined the relationship among variables in athletes group. Methods : The subjects were 459(86.5%), who were 18 years or older with mean age of 20.7 years. Data was collected using a self administrated questionnaire from May 25 to June 15, 2009. We surveyed maxillofacial injuries(temporo-mandibular disorders contained) and mouth-guards usage and confidence concerning mouth-guards in athletes. The data were analysed with chi-square analysis, fisher's exact test and logistic regression using the SPSS 15.0 windows. Results : Prevalence of body or maxillofacial injuries experiences was 54.5% for athletes and 47.1% for non-athletes groups(p>0.05). The other hand, the incidence temporo-mandibular disorders was 67.0% for athletes and 49.8% for non-athletes groups(p<0.05). The experience of the use of mouth-guards was 83.3% for athletes and 78.8% for non-athletes, there were not significant differences between athletes and non-athletes groups (p>0.05). Risk factors found to be significantly related to the occurrence of maxillofacial injury were: unused mouth-guards(OR=2.83), no rules for use of mouth-guards(OR=2.46). Conclusions : Based on the findings, maxillofacial injuries experience is highly associated with mouth-guards usage, not only athletes also general people should be educated on the use of mouth-guard in order to reduce the incidence of maxillofacial injuries.
Objectives: The purpose of the study is to examine the behaviors by the degree od dry mouth related to stress, dry mouth and halitosis. Methods: The subjects were 400 adults. A self-reported questionnaire was completed from August 1 to November 30, 2014. The data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 program. The questionnaire consisted of eight questions of general characteristics of the subjects, one question of subjective stress symptom, six questions of dry mouth symptom, four questions of dry mouth behavior, and one question of halitosis. Results: There was a significant difference between halitosis and stress in patients having systemic diseases. Stress had a significant difference with gender, income, drinking frequency and alcohol consumption. The degree of dry mouth had a significant difference with gender and age. In dry mouth severity, behavior showed a significant difference with age, education, and times and amount of alcohol consumption. Age had a positive correlation with cigarette consumption and a negative correlation with dry mouth and dry mouth behavior. Cigarette consumption showed a positive correlation with alcohol consumption. Drinking frequency had a positive correlation with alcohol consumption, dry mouth, dry mouth behavior, halitosis and stress. Alcohol consumption had a positive correlation with dry mouth behavior, and dry mouth showed a positive correlation with dry mouth behavior, halitosis and stress. Dry mouth behavior had a positive correlation with halitosis and stress, while halitosis showed a positive correlation with stress. Conclusions: Stress, dry mouth and halitosis were closely correlated. Since stress is the most important variable, stress relief will be the most effective measure to alleviate oral symptoms. Therefore, stress relief measures need to be devised for oral health management in adults having stressful life.
Objectives : The goal of this study is to investigate how occupational stress affects temporomandibular disorders (TMD), dry mouth and oral symptoms. Methods : For this study, workers from 5 areas were selected and the survey was carried out from June 1st to 30th, 2012. A total of 410 questionnaires were analyzed. Results : The analysis of the structural model shows that occupational stress has no significant influence on temporomandibular disorder and dry mouth symptoms, but does affect other oral symptoms. The results also reveal that dry mouth symptom and temporomandibular disorder both have a significant effect on oral symptoms. Conclusions : Oral symptoms and job stress appeared to directly and indirectly influence the psychological and social factors of job stress. A systemic investigation on the improvement of oral health in workers is urgently required.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to confirm effects of oral exercise program intended to improve the condition of salivary hypofunction and to provide basic data for development of oral health program for the elderly Methods : The subjects were 125 elderly women who resided in Gyeong-In area and were aged 65 years and older. During a 2-month period, an oral exercise was conducted twice a week. A survey was conducted by interviewing the selected elders to determine the state of their subjective dry mouth. Unstimulated whole saliva was measured before and after the oral exercise program. Results : There was a significant improvement in subjective dry mouth symptoms, severity scores of dry mouth after the oral exercise, and there were affected by age and income level. There was a significant increase in unstimulated whole-saliva after the oral exercise program. There was positive interrelationship between dry mouth Symptom improvement level and inconvenience improvement level, and between inconvenience improvement level and the increase of unstimulated whole-saliva. Conclusions : This study showed the effects of the oral exercise program. It is suggested that this oral exercise program has positive effects on the condition of dry mouth. For the explicit improvement effect on the condition of dry mouth, the oral exercise program needs to be carried out in consideration of the elderly's general characteristics.

Job stress is emerging as one of major issues related to oral health in modern society that has increasingly been complicated and diversified. The purpose of this study was to examine the job stress and dry mouth of workers and their self-diagnosed oral symptoms in an attempt to determine the relationship between job stress and dry mouth. The subjects in this study were 366 workers, and a survey was conducted to June 1 to 20, 2012. Whether there would be any differences in dry mouth and self-diagnosed oral symptoms according to job stress was analyzed, and it's found that there were significant differences in dry mouth according to organizational climate. And oral symptoms made significant differences to job demand, interpersonal conflicts, organizational system, lack of reward and job stress. There was a positive correlation between dry mouth and organizational climate, and oral symptoms had a significant correlation to job demand, interpersonal conflicts, job insecurity, organizational system, job stress and dry mouth. Organizational climate and lack of reward had a significant impact on dry mouth, and oral symptoms were under the significant influence of dry mouth, job insecurity and organizational system.
