Most of the furniture in the past was dedicated to its original use such as storage and accommodation of articles or sitting tools, but the concept of furniture in contemporary indoor spaces is gradually increasing in its meaning while exchanging close impacts with other spatial components. Indeed, in contemporary furniture, a component other than furniture constituting a space would sometimes serve the common roles of furniture or sometimes furniture would include all indoor objects used to make people's living more convenient. This study reviewed the meaning of furniture and changes in its roles in contemporary indoor spaces and summarized the characteristics presenting a few examples. First, in contemporary indoor spaces, furniture as an independent object does not having a meaning any more. The fusion of functions with other components constituting indoor spaces is the most important characteristics in contemporary furniture and it has been already attempted in diverse ways through fusion with buildings surpassing fusion with other pieces of furniture or electric home appliances. Second, the arrangement conforming to the roles required by spaces and diverse forms of attempts are essential. Since furniture is an item the most closely related to human residential life, studies on human behaviors in spaces must precede. The efforts to enhance work efficiencies and used limited spaces more efficiently will be continued and explorations of new forms should be also continued. Third, with regards to manufacturing methods, new technologies should be applied more widely and furniture materials must be diversified through the use of new materials including not only cutting-edge new materials but also all the materials that can be applied to furniture such as conventional natural materials and environment friendly materials that can be recycled.

A study of domestic furniture arrangements may reveal the living style relevant to the room as conceived and coded by occupants and the effects of the physical environment on the structure of behavior settings. The purpose of this study was to investigate, through analizing the furniture usage and behavior as a non-reactive and activity oriented behavioral measures, the occupants` domestic habits as a living style using MDS. MDS(multidimensional scaling technique) is a statistical technique for creating a spatial representation of data. It Is a particularly appropriate technique for analizing qualitative data such as the furniture usage and behavior because it takes into account all of the relationships between items. For the MDS analysis, the furniture usage and behavior examined by housing types based on 114 households in Seoul. The result of spatial configuration by MDS has three dimensions : recogn;lion of room function, pattern of room organization, understanding of room meaning. The effect of housing types for dimensions is identical but configuration of furniture items is different.

Because the use of furniture have changed importantly, the relationship between general classroom in primary school and using furniture has got more important than before. There are two distinctive in furniture of general classroom. One is the improving the quality of education environment, and another is the improving the effect of studying. Therefore, the goal of this study is to change the function of general classroom for goal of these two characteristic. Through this study, the goal of this study make a future vision of better furniture design of general classroom.

Appear on the furniture design concept of the Joseon Dynasty Pung-hyel design was developed that is imaged by implication. Was enough of our culture, tradition and the wisdom of our ancestors to the development of a design that reflects the traits to fit the purpose of each form to proceed. Based building materials, technology, and how to identify and develop products as competitive PE fence, and at the same time to develop an international product design is based. Was designed with functionality and mass production to be faithful as a function fence productivity. Formative elements where you can rub shoulders with the modern urban environment alive excavated features leads in the traditional culture, aesthetics, design emphasized a new sense of harmony. Improvements were becoming increasingly aware that traditional culture of Korea's own traditional forms of social concern of modern design. Other products and take advantage of the traditional pattern, with figurative motifs and differentiation, and faithful to its original function as a fence brings out the basic elements of the visual motif has a distinctive beauty.

This research has a significant meaning to observe and understand the historical condition of a furniture industry and the characteristics of Korean home furniture's formation, ability, skill and materials from 1980s when there were an economic growth and a historical development of Korean home furniture occurred to present days. During 1980s, there was an automatic system available and has enforced and settled the standards on its quality and price in a furniture industry. Also, there was a big trend of black furniture as well as an entrance of corporation and high glossy furniture due to technical cooperation from Europe. In 1990s, there was an entrance of furniture which various techniques was applied due to a high development of the materials and skills, and also various sizes of height and weight and enlargement of acceptance function using highly-technological hardware. After 2000 and now, pro-environmental products is embossed in the Korean home furniture where they added a public issue which is the concept of well being, and A.I and sub material has been pro-environment. There also was a natural unity between nature and technology because of increased usage of trees with its natural patterns, metals, and glasses. For the future development of home furniture design, This problem should be promptly recognized that current home furniture designs are now on the verge of being lack of originality and are just following the market demand and recent trend as it is. Then, there should be a development of its specialized, detailed, unique design as well as a development of advanced materials, production management, distribution, and so on, and carrying out a diversified research continuously. There also should be a systematic education, which is necessary for training specialists to lead the Korean home furniture design industry as well as preparing a basic level for the future without a negligence.

Nowadays living space has been small-sized due to a rise in the standard of living, change of recognition on the increase of housing for the singles, and frequent movements of duty place, etc. and the furnitures naturally evolved assembly and multi-functionality. However, it retuned with an economic charge in the consumers and lost the uniformity in a small-sized living space as well since the furniture depended on the each miscellaneous household goods or products and came to be used. Hereupon it was demanded the system where the various furnitures are to fit to here. This study aimed at this point firstly examined a new environment change which it follows till a small living space is demanded through lots of literature, after understanding the concept of the system furniture, I classified expressive types of system furniture in modern environment and analyzed the design quality and characteristics in it by selecting well-known furniture magazines inside and outside of the country and extracting and analyzing system furniture images which are recorded in advertisements or articles. The objective of this study is to present MMC(Multi Modular Coordination, a system furniture design based on this analysis that inquiring the problems with function, structure, assembly which other existing system furnitures are facing enabled to apply a basic data in unit-module planning and by sampling embodiment modeling by uses.

Architects and designers of the 20th Century made various efforts to establish new design languages reflecting the changes of society, the times, and environment. They used furniture, especially chairs, as controversial items of aesthetic value, society and ideology. Le Corbusier and Alvar Aalto are furniture designers as well as architects, who adopted this ‘spirit of the times’ actively and have greatly contributed to modernism. This study will help us to understand the diversity of design since modernism, by comparing these two designers' furniture design. It also covers the common factors In modern furniture design, and analyses their individuality and likeness In design. The following is a comparison of furniture design by Le Corbusier and Alvar Aalto. Le Courbusier linked International design and Aalto linked Rational design and Organic concept design to their furniture, just as they did in their architecture. They were able to establish the base of modern furniture design by adapting new concepts and pursuing humanism. In structure, Le Corbusier's furniture Is simple and proportional. It demonstrates a sophisticated geometric composition, mechanical beauty. On the other hand, Aalto rationally linked nature with human requirements and his furniture is organic and in harmony with geometric structure. In function, Le Corbusier's furniture is standardized and prefabricated. He designed for the user so they could choose to use the furniture efficiently to suit their needs. In comparison with Le Corbusier, Aalto Invented the ‘Stacking Chair’ which allows a more effective use of space and reflected the structure of the human body to improve the user's comfort. In materials and techniques, Le Corbusier used new materials like metal or leather, and attempted new ways such as welding, prefabrication, and standardization for production. On the contrary, Alto mainly used birch, which is the traditional material in Finland, and tried new bent wood techniques and joining methods.

전통사회로부터의 발전 및 변화에 따라 사람들의 사고방식과 생활습관도 변하고 있다. 현대 사회에서는 전통적인 가치관의 탈피와 결혼관 등의 변화로 인해 싱글족이 점차 늘어나고 있으며, 이에 따라 싱글족의 행동방식, 생활환경, 소비습관 역시 관심의 대상이 되었다. 싱글족의 출현으로 전통 가구 역시 이미 이들의 수요를 만족할 수 없게 되었고, 때문에 싱글족의 특성에 맞춘 가구 디자인을 개발해야 한다. 본 연구는 싱글족의 발생배경 및 소비심리에 대한 연구를 통해, 싱글족의 소비와 기호의 특성을 분석했으며, 가구수요를 조사해 싱글족의 거주형태, 가구종류 및 특징에 대해 정리하고 있다. 또한 SWOT분석 방법을 사용하여 싱글족 가구의 장단점에 관하여 한층 더 체계적인 연구를 진행했다. 더불어 싱글족의 가구 수요, 거주형태 및 싱글족 가구의 장단점에 대한 분석을 종합하여 싱글족을 위한 멀티형 가구 디자인이라는 개념을 내놓았으며, 이를 기초하여 싱글족의 특징 및 수요를 만족할 수 있는 가구 디자인으로 싱글족의 가구수요를 만족시키기 위해 본 연구를 진행했다. 마지막으로 멀티형 디자인 및 접이식 기능은 공간 활용도를 향상시켰으며, 새로운 제품 디자인 개발방법을 제시한 점에서 새로운 의미를 가진다.

최근 ICT 발전과 함께 다양한 분야가 발전하고 변화하여 사용자와 기기, 컴퓨터 등의 상호작용에 관한 연구과 활발하게 진행 중이다. 이에 가구 또한 기술과 접목하여 사람과 상호작용하는 형태로 인터랙티브 가구가 생겨나고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서 사용자와 가구의 상호작용에 관한 연구에 도움이 되고자 미래의 인터랙티브 가구의 방향에 대한 연구를 진행하였다. 본 연구는 사용자 태스크를 분석하기 위해 거실 이용에 관한 사용자 다이어리를 실시하였다. 어피니티 다이어그램 분석 방법과 아이데이션 워크샵을 통해 사용자 태스크를 파악하고 분석한 결과 미래 인터랙티브 가구의 방향은 자동화와 복합화의 특성을 세분화할 수 있었다. 이에 본 연구는 미래 인터랙티브 가구 특성을 세분화하였을 뿐만 아니라 추후 인터랙티브 가구 연구의 기초 자료로써 일조하는 의미가 있다.

The aim of the present study was to investigate and analyze a tendency of the Philippines furniture which are not well-known in Korean market yet, but have been emerging as an OEM base, through the Manila FAME 2012. The study was conducted by visiting some furniture companies in Philippines for the active understanding regarding the current status of the Philippines furniture, in consideration of the material, functional and structural aspects of the goods which were exhibited on the Manila FAME 2012. The methods of the investigation were to research the related literatures concerned and materials had been collected over the internet, to visit the Manila FAME 2012 at work and finally to visit furniture companies in Philippines. Manila FAME has been based on the DTI (DTI: Department of Trade and Industry) through CITEM (CITEM: The Center for International Trade Mission and Expositions) since 1983. The exhibition whichincludes various sorts from furniture, traditional artifacts, leisure goods, gifts, jewelry and clothes is becoming such a potent force by integrating three exhibitions such as Manila Now, CEBUNEXT and Bijoux Cebu, what all had been held before the world economic downturn. The features of the Philippines furniture shown on the Manila FAME are as follows: First, they are focusing on the maximum of function to the exclusion of the decoration and they were mostly made of various kinds of mahogany like jambilina, acacia, bamboo, wisteria and Manila hemp growing up in the Philippines indeed and finally there were a lot of the simple designs of the curved line which were exactly the material nature of the wisteria and Manila hemp.
