  • Defining prediction variables related to metamemory for the adults in aging process has worthwhile meaning from the perspective that the produced results can be helpful to reducing the difficulty of memorizing efforts and it can also enhance quality of life of aged. This study attempted to analysis relationship between perceived health status, depression, memory self-efficacy and meta memory for the subjects of middle age and old age adults. This study was designed by adopting descriptive correlational analysis method for the 468 middle and old age adults who are living in Seoul. Samples were selected by convenience sampling. Data collection was done over 1 month period in june 1998. The instruments used in this study were health status measuring scale including depression measuring scale, memory self efficacy measuring scale and metamemory measuring scale which were verified for reliability. Data collected were analized by using SPSS for frequency, Peason correlation, t-test and ANOVA according to the variables character and the study purposes. Results of the study were as follows. 1. Relationship between perceived health status, depression, memory self-efficacy and metamemory. Relational analyses between perceived health status, depression, memory self-efficacy and metamemory supported the hypotheses of 1st, 2nd and 3rd(p < .01). These results suggested that the aged perceived great health status then their memory self-efficacy, and metamemory showed the high scores. In the case of depression when its level became decreased metamemory was inclined to increased. Thus, it is identified that strong relationship exists between these variables. 2. Perceived health status, depression, memory self-efficacy by subject's general characteristics. Scores of perceived health status were high in the group of man compared to the group of women, and also highly educated group showed great perceived health status. Group of persons having occupation showed high score of perceived health status and low depression score. The score of memory self-efficacy and metamemory showed higher in the middle aged than the old aged. The high scores of memory self-efficacy and metamemory were found in the group of highly educated people and who have continuing education. The high scores of memory self-efficacy were found in the group of persons having their job and high metamemory scores found in the group of persons having religion. In summary, the greater perceived health status and memory self-efficacy, the more metamemory scores were likely increased and the more depression level was decreased, the more metamemory was likely increased. Also it was found that general characteristics like educational level, continuing education and religion influenced the metamemory of the aged. Therefore, prevention the aged from getting depression and activation of health promotion are needed to delay time of memory loss.

  • Purpose: This study was designed to identify the relationship between self reported climacteric symptoms, self concept and depression in middle aged women. Method: Data were collected through self-reported questionaires which were constructed to include a climacteric symptoms, self-concept and depression of middle-aged women scale. The subjects for this study were 102 women between 40-59 years of age living in P city. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson Correlation Coefficient. Results: The results obtained from this study were as follows : 1) The relationship between self reported climacteric symptoms and self concept was statistically significant with a negative correlation (r=-0.4862, P0.001). The relationship between self reported climacteric symptoms and depression had a statistically significant positive correlation (r=0.5393, P<0.001). The Relationship between self-concept and depression had a statistically significant negative correlation (r=-0.3769, P<0.001). 2) General characteristic variables significantly related to self reported climacteric symptoms were age (F=3.13, P<0.05) and frequency of pregnancy (F=3.24, P<0.05). General characteristic variables significantly related to frequency of self-concept were age (F=3.13, P<0.05), education level (F=2.97, P<0.05) and occupation (t=1.84, P<0.05). General characteristic variables significantly related to depression were age (F=3.12, P<0.05) and number of children (t=3.59, P<0.05). 3) The obstetrical characteristic variable significantly related to self-reported climacteric symptoms was the frequency of pregnancy (t=3.24, P<0.05). Conclusion: This study shows possible implications for nursing intervention for middle-aged women's health to prevent and relieve climacteric symptoms.

  • This study attempts to investigate the trajectories of socio-economic deprivation on the depression trajectories among middle-aged individuals using a latent growth model over the last five years. Using the Korea welfare panel study data ranged from the year 2013 (8th wave) to the year 2017 (12th wave), a sample of 7,437 aged over 40 was selected. Three hypothesis was proposed as follows. Is the trajectory of depression changing over the years? Are the initial values of socio-economic deprivation causally related to the initial values of depression? Are the rates of change in socio-economic deprivation causally related to the rates of change in depression? Results showed that the growth curve of depression tended to decline negatively over the five-year period. As the intial values of socio-economic deprivation increased, so did the initial values of depression move upwards. Finally, as the changes of socio-economic deprivation tended to get larger, those changes of depression also accordingly increased as well. The public policy implications based on the current study were discussed to pay more attention to those middle-aged individuals suffering from socio-economic deprivations.

  • In this study, we investigated the effects of health satisfaction and family relationship satisfaction on depression among low-income middle-aged men who are expected to have great economic difficulties. The mediating effect was analyzed to see what kind of change in the depressive state according to the social acquaintance satisfaction. Frequency analysis and regression analysis were performed using SPSS statistics program using data from the 15th Korea Welfare Panel for middle-aged adults aged 50 to 64 years. As a result of analyzing the mediating effect of social acquaintance satisfaction on depression, it showed a partial mediating effect on health satisfaction and a fully mediating effect on family relationship satisfaction. The result of this study is to clearly reveal the effect of service support for improving social acquaintance satisfaction for middle-aged men on mental health such as depression, in the future effective standards can be provided for validation of the validity of social network support services for middle-aged men.

Method: The research design was a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. Forty two participants were assigned to either the experimental group (21) or control group (21). Frequency, percentages, mean, standard deviations, $X^2$-test, Wilcoxon rank sum test and repeated measured ANOVA with SPSS 12.0/PC program were used to analyzed the collected data. Results: For physical function the physical fitness of the experimental group improved significantly more than the control group: Leg strength, balance, flexibility and grip strength. Difficulty of performing activity had a tendency of decrease. Stress showed a tendency of as time passed but the decrease was not significant. Depression decreased and the change was significant. Conclusion: The Tai Chi exercise was effective in improving physical function and reducing the stress and depression of middle aged women with osteoarthritis. Therefore the Tai Chi exercise could be used as a nursing intervention for osteoarthritis in middle aged women.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors affecting the experience of depression in school-aged children from multicultural families. Methods: Data from 1,812 school-aged children of multicultural families were collected from the 2015 National Multicultural Family Survey. Logistic regression was conducted based on complex sample analysis using SAS 9.4. Results: Significant predictors for experiencing depression were lower self-esteem, lower Korean proficiency, less time spent conversing with the father, lower degree of parental interest, poorer school adjustment, greater difficulties with schoolwork, and experiencing violence at school. Conclusion: This study showed that factors related to the individual, family, and school environment influenced the experience of depression. Based on a consideration of these factors, it is necessary to develop an effective program to prevent depression by establishing high-risk criteria for depression.
