The purpose of this study was to explore bullying among senior women at a senior center. Using ethnographic research technique, we examined the process in which members of the senior center engaged in and responded to bullying. Purposive sampling method was used to choose a senior center as the subject of this study. Within the center, 16 senior women participated in the study. In-depth interviews and participatory research methods were used to collect data. We analyzed the transcripts of the interviews based on the ethnographic analysis method presented by Spradley (1979). Themes that emerged from these participatory research and interviews include: members of the senior center creating loners, people being bullied causing damages to the group, taking actions to respond to bullying, and failing to solve the bullying problems. First, the victims of bullying became loners with no one to rely on through other members' verbal attacks, discrimination, isolation, and stopping the victim to use the senior center. Second, the victims were under attack but also caused troubles at the senior center and harmed others at the same time. Third, while engaging in bullying, senior women attempted to deal with bullying problems in many ways. These attempts include: avoiding the conflict, withstanding, attempting to mediating, and so on. Finally, bullying remained to be a recurring phenomenon at the senior center. New victims of bullying continuously appeared and the influence of bullying was felt not only within the senior center but outside as well. Based on the findings of this study, we suggest that practitioners and researchers take into account factors that affect bullying among senior women.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify the needs of the senior welfare center users of the health service program, and to establish a plan to adjust the health service functions of the senior center. Methods: A survey of 2,130 users of the Gyeonggi-do Senior Welfare Center was conducted from May 28 to June 30, 2018. Results: The major results of the study are as follows. First, 66.8 percent of senior welfare center users were willing to participate in health care. The requirement for health service programs was 3.87 points out of 5 points followed by cognitive ability improvement programs, senior movement programs, and chronic disease programs in lower areas. Second, the factors affecting the needs of health care service programs of senior welfare center users had a significant impact on women; the younger the age, the better the subjective health condition; the higher the number of medical conditions, the lower the out-of-patient experience; the longer the welfare center isused, the more people are willing to participate in healthcare. Conclusions: We believe that there is a need for social service policies and management to better understand the situation of senior citizens who are demanding various services due to illness and to integrate health and welfare services.
This paper describes two capstone senior design courses for the Mechanical Engineering program at University of the Pacific. The first course taught in the Fall semester is entitled "Engineering Design/Senior Project I." The second course taught in the Spring semester is entitled "Engineering Design/Senior Project II." All Mechanical Engineering students with senior standing are required to take these two classes in this sequence. At the end of every Spring semester, industrial advisors are invited to assess the final senior projects during an annual Senior Project Day. This assessment is performed using the Program Outcomes and Program Educational Objectives established for Pacific's Mechanical Engineering program. Since all Mechanical Engineering students are required to complete senior projects, this is a 100% evaluation process. After the evaluations are done, the data sets are compiled and reviewed by the faculty for assessment purposes. It is important to note that the industrial advisors perform the evaluations, but the faculty members assess the information to determine if modifications need to be made to the program or courses. In addition to the senior project evaluations, general feedback from Mechanical Engineering Industrial Advisory Committee (MEIAC) members is also useful for the outcomes-based assessment process in addition to the definition and evaluation of Program Outcomes and Program Educational Objectives.

As Korea has rapidly entered the aging society, the Korean government and academia are currently undergoing many researches on senior citizens. There also has been an increase in senior citizens' awareness on the importance of spatial designs that reflect the newly emerged needs brought out by their psychological and emotional changes as well as their physical aspects. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to propose a model for senior citizens' image preference to be adopted in future developments for senior-friendly spatial designs. A literature review and a questionnaire survey were implemented as research methods. The questionnaire survey was conducted at two senior welfare centers located in Seoul and Ansan and two disparate senior colleges, on the subjects of 86 senior citizens aged 60 and older. 7 styles of Romantic, Classic, Country, Modern, Natural, Casual, and Traditional were chosen for the study and the realms to apply the image preference were divided into Space, Element1 and Element2. For Space, its subcategories have been restricted to living room and bedroom while color, furniture and lighting for Element1 and material, pattern and props for Element2. Survey results were statistically analyzed for the correlation among socio-demographic factors of senior citizens, spaces and the elements. The study result showed that older age and men tended to prefer the modern style than younger age or women, and younger women preferred the romantic style. For the color preference in Element1, older men preferred the classic style while women preferred the romantic style. And, for the furniture preference, men with higher income preferred the natural style while women preferred the romantic style. For the pattern preference in Element2, younger people preferred the casual style and it showed that the housing type was the main reason for their preferences. Therefore, the image preference according to their age and gender shall be taken account of as the most important factors when designing environments for senior citizens.
