  • This paper presents design consideration for LLC resonant converter utilizing the leakage inductance and magnetizing inductance of transformer as resonant components. The leakage inductance in the transformer secondary side is also considered in the gain equation. The design procedure is verified through experimental results.

  • Often we receive misled conclusion in the research if properly variables are not analyzed. In different functional issues of management it is very essential that all the latent and observed variable are properly understood so management decisions will be relevant and effective. The objective of this paper is to investigate the use of different multivariate tools for analyzing in the management research : applied or basic. The sources of data is primary as well as secondary. The primary includes the observation of different research articles of the proceedings of different conferences. And the secondary includes different publications related to multivariate analysis. The study has revealed the reasons of not using such tools of research. The preliminary finding reveals that most of the researches do not use such analytical tools in a comprehensive manner. Carelessness in design while fixing the design aspect is the main reasons of not using appropriate design.

  • The present study deals with the leading edge shape on a wing-body junction to decrease a horseshoe vortex, one of the main factors to generate the secondary flow losses. The shape of leading-edge is optimized with design variables form the leading-edge shape. Approximate optimization design method is used for the optimization. The study is investigated using $FLUENT^{TM}$ and $iSIGHT^{TM}$. As the result, total pressure coefficient of the optimized design case was decreased about 9.79% compare to the baseline case.

Design and Implementation of Mathematics Textbooks in Support of Effective Teaching for Secondary Schools: A Chinese Case

  • Mathematics textbook plays a significant role in shaping students' learning of mathematics. Logic, rigor and abstraction as typical features of the formalization of mathematics, dominate mathematics textbooks around the world, which is regarded as one of the important origins of students' learning difficulties in mathematics. An innovative series of Chinese mathematic textbooks is presented in this paper. Supported by the supplementary materials excerpts from the textbooks, it gives a comprehensive theoretical analysis of the principles of design and implementation of this series of mathematics textbooks. The effectiveness of this series of textbooks is demonstrated by student achievement and secondary research data. It shows that series of Chinese mathematic textbooks has largely decreased students' learning difficulties in mathematics and enhance classroom teaching efficiency. It suggests that prioritizing the essence of mathematics and reducing abstraction is an important notion for mathematics textbook design and implementation.

A Feature-based Approach to Compound Surface Design (특징형상을 이용한 복합곡면의 설계)

  • While many surfaces such as automobile outer panels, ship hulls and airfoils are characterized by their smooth, free-form shapes, a far larger class of functional surfaces are characterized by highly irregular, multi-featured shapes consisting of pockets, channels, ribs, etc. In constaract to the design of aesthetic, free-form surfaces, functional surface design can perhaps best be viewed as a process of assembling a collection of known component surfaces to form a single compound surface. In this paper, we presents a feature-based functional surface modeling method. A single feature involves a secondary surface, which we must join to a primary surface with a smooth transition between two boundary courves. Through recursive blending of a secondary surface with the primary surface, the mullti-featured surface is represented. After constructing a compound surface, we generate the Z-map for NC machining of the surface. Offsetting the Z-map using the inverse offsetting technique, we get CL tool paths with out gouging.

  • Base-isolation of a primary structure generally decrete the seismic response of its own and the secondary structure. It may cause an adverse effect on the seismic response of secondary system when the system is submerged and subject to a considerable hydrodynamic effect. In this paper, it is shown how, and how much, the base isolation of the primary structure can affect the secondary system response in extreme cases through dynamic analysis of a simplified coupled model for a submerged secondary system and a base-isolated primary structure. As an aseismatic design approach to reduce the response of the submerged system, optimization of the fluid gap, which controls the hydrodynamic mass effect, is performed. As an alternative approach in case where the control of fluid gap is unrealistic, application of base isolation to the submerged system is suggested. Effectiveness of various combinations of the primary base and secondary base isolations are compared.

  • An application of the EQS (Eradi Quake System) bearings to a short period building structure and the structure earthquake responses according to the design parameters of the EQS are studied by the ICT Center case study. The features of the EQS application to seismic isolated building structures are investigated, and the design procedure to determine the yield load and the secondary stiffness of the EQS is also studied. A computational analysis is performed to confirm the applicability of the EQS to the building structure and the earthquake responses according to the design parameters. The ICT Center in Indonesia is adopted as an application case of the EQS. The application of the EQS is found to extend the fundamental period of the ICT Center. Three types of EQS with different yield loads and secondary stiffness are designed and applied in the earthquake response analyses. The analysis results show the response of the structure with respect to the design parameters and which type of EQS is suitable for the ICT Center.

  • The High speed electrical multiple train having a distributed electrical motor system has just been developing to aim the experimental maximum speed at 400km/h since August, 2007. This project comes in stage of basic design and so, it needs to take some review and analysis the characteristics of suspensions on the view of basic design. The vehicle model for dynamic analysis is made from the concept design model that used for the preliminary design review with Vampire program and it is modeled with three linear secondary dampers and two shear springs separated from the bush elements in previous model. The optimization technique is applied to search the proper range of linear characteristics for the suspension elements to satisfy the stability performance at speed 130m/s (about 460km/h). The results shows there are some optimum points according to the variation of primary and secondary suspension characteristics and it would be useful to make a decision to select the proper suspension elements in the precision design that will be done by the manufacturing company.

Energy Efficient Design of a Jet Pump by Ensemble of Surrogates and Evolutionary Approach

  • Energy systems working coherently in different conditions may not have a specific design which can provide optimal performance. A system working for a longer period at lower efficiency implies higher energy consumption. In this effort, a methodology demonstrated by a jet pump design and optimization via numerical modeling for fluid dynamics and implementation of an evolutionary algorithm for the optimization shows a reduction in computational costs. The jet pump inherently has a low efficiency because of improper mixing of primary and secondary fluids, and multiple momentum and energy transfer phenomena associated with it. The high fidelity solutions were obtained through a validated numerical model to construct an approximate function through surrogate analysis. Pareto-optimal solutions for two objective functions, i.e., secondary fluid pressure head and primary fluid pressure-drop, were generated through a multi-objective genetic algorithm. For the jet pump geometry, a design space of several design variables was discretized using the Latin hypercube sampling method for the optimization. The performance analysis of the surrogate models shows that the combined surrogates perform better than a single surrogate and the optimized jet pump shows a higher performance. The approach can be implemented in other energy systems to find a better design.

The Effect of Resiliency Training Program for Child Protection Agency Counselors to Prevent Secondary Traumatic Stress (아동보호전문기관 상담원을 대상으로 한 이차외상스트레스 예방을 위한 레질리언스 훈련 프로그램의 효과 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to find out the effect of the secondary traumatic stress prevention program for counselors at child protection agencies. The quasi-experiment design was used for pre-test, post-test, and for follow-up test, performed 3 months after the program. Experimental group consisted of 9 counselors, while the comparison group consisted of 10 counselors. As a result, it was revealed that secondary traumatic stress prevention program was effective in decreasing the secondary traumatic stress and depression of the counselors, and also effective in increasing stress coping even though it was not statistically significant. Follow-up test did not present statistically significant changes in secondary traumatic stress, depression, and stress coping. It was found that, to achieve continued effect of the program, much longer and sustained program is required. Based on these findings, the necessity and application of the secondary traumatic stress prevention program were suggested.
