  • In this paper we analyze the performance of a statistical ATM multiplexer with bursty input traffic and two thresholds in the buffer by using queueing model. Two priority levels are considered for source traffic which is modeled by Markov Modulated Poisson Process to represent the bursty characteristics. Service time distributions of two priority sources are assumed to be same and deterministic for ATM environment. The partial buffer sharing scheme with one threshold may experience a sensitive state change around the threshold. But the proposed multiplexer with two thresholds avoids this hysterical phenominon to improve the system operation.

  • In a commercial facsimile network system, a simulation analysis has been performed using ARENA due to the unavailability of theoretical models. The effect of a priority is compared with that of the current FCFS rule on the arriving call blocking rate and transmission time delay. The result shows that the priority rule reduces more service time delay as the arrival rate increases. A simulation analysis procedure is proposed to select optimal in/out port ratio at various hourly arrival rates with a given multiple-place transmission requests ratio.

  • The purpose of this study is to empirically examine the quality competence as a source of competitive advantages. The relationship between quality priority and competitive priority, and the relationship between quality competence and competitive capability are investigated using data collected from 114 manufacturing business units of 75 manufacturing companies. Several measures are used to characterize competitive strategy and value chain, and quality factors including conformance, reliability, durability, performance, and customization. The result indicates that the quality competence paired with competitive strategy positively influences the level of competitiveness, but management performances are not strongly correlated with quality competence.

  • Combination of AHP priorities is essential in combining opinions of multiple experts. There are two ways to get combined priorities: one is to combine the pairwise matrices and obtain the priority from it and another is to combine the individual priorities. In this paper, we use a Dirichlet probability model to combine the priorities from multiple experts. The resulting combined priority is an expected value of the model, which is a function of some measure of the homogeneity and credibility of the group of experts. We give some interpretations of this measure and illustrate them by numerical example.

  • The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is widely used for evaluation of large projects. If a group of experts with different expertise are involved in a AHP decision, they need some way to aggregate their opinions. In this paper, we suggest a way to aggregate the experts' priorities in a given hierarchy using the concept of the Bayesian decision analysis. A criterion that can be used for screening out unreliable data is introduced, and it is used for priority aggregation. Some numerical results are shown to illustrate the procedure.

  • A modified IPRMA protocol using priority scheme is proposed to increase the number of maximum users, which prevents the collision between the voice and data traffic. A simple decentralized traffic control scheme is presented for the proposed protocol. The improvement in performance over conventional IPRMA is shown through simulation, and EPA(Equilibrium Point Analysis) is used to evaluate system performance.

  • This paper treats the problem to schedule for trains with how transit priority so as to maximizing the number that can be sent during given time periods without interfering with the fixed schedule for train with high transit priority in a track. We transform the this problem into Time Expanded Network without traverse time through application of Ford and Fulkerson Model and construct the Enumeration Algorithm for solutions using TENET Generator (TENETGEN). Finally, we compare our algorithm with Dinic's Maximal-Flow Algorithm and examine the avaliability of our procedures in personal computer.

  • This paper describes a single-server queue where the server is unavailable during some intervals of time, which is referred to as vacations. The major contribution of this work is to derive general formulas for the additional delay in the vacation models of the single vacations, head of line priority queues with non-preemptive service, and multiple vacations and idle time.

  • We consider an M/G/1 queueing system with multiple priority classes of jobs. Considered preemptive rules are the preemptive-resume preemptive-repeat-identical, and preemptive-repeat-different policies. These three preemptive rules will be analyzed in parallel. The key idea of analysis is based on the consideration of a busy period as composite of delay cycle. As results we present the exact Laplace-Stieltjecs(L.S) transforms of residence time and completion time in the system.
