Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the trend of Tranditional Chinese Medicine for Otitis Media with Effusion(OME) in Chinese journals. Methods : Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI) and Wanfang med online were used to search Chinese studies which were published from January, 2010 to April, 2020. Results : Among Chinese studies, Exterior-releasing medicinal(解表藥) and Heat-clearing medicinal(淸熱藥) were the most frequently used. The herbs which used the most frequently are Bupleuri Radix(柴胡), Acori Graminei Rhizoma(石菖蒲). All of studies have reported that Tranditional Chinese Medicine is effective for Otitis Media with Effusion. Conclusions : In analysis of selected studies, Tranditional Chinese Medicine is more effective than Western Medicine Treatments. Recurrence rates and side effects of OME can be reduced by cotreatment of Tranditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine Treatments.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effects of Mahaengeuigam-tang and Trichloroacetic acid(TCA) on hand warts. Exfoliation, such as TCA is a method developed from traditional medicine and used to treat hyperkeratosis skin in this patient. Methods : A patient with Verruca Vulgaris was treated with herbal medicine, including Mahaengeuigam-tang and application of TCA on wart lesions. Changes in lesions were evaluated by photographs. Results : After 3 months of treatment, The patient's lesions showed complete clearance. There are no adverse effects and no relapse of Verruca Vulgaris after 57 days of last treatment. Conclusions : According to the result, Mahaengeuigam-tang and External treatment such as TCA developed from traditional medicine can be effective for Verruca Vulgaris.

Objectives : We performed a pilot study to investigate inter- and intra-rater reliability of pattern identification using nasal endoscopy for allergic rhinitis(AR). Methods : Eight experts of ophthalmology, otolaryngology and dermatology of Korean medicine evaluated 20 nasal endoscopy photograph cases of AR patients with pattern identification index using nasal endoscopy for AR including the nasal membrane color(pale / hyperemia), nasal membrane humidity(dryness / dampness), rhinorrhea(watery / yellow), and membrane edema (atrophic / edematous) on nasal endoscopy. Results : Intra-rater agreement(%) and Kappa coefficient was generally from 'moderate' to 'good'(% agreement: 73.13-90% / Kappa coefficient: 0.547-0.748). Inter-rater agreement(%) and Kappa coefficient was also from 'moderate' to 'good' (% agreement: 65-85% / Kappa: 0.475-0.778) except 'humidity(dryness / dampness)' item (% agreement: 55.98% / Kappa: 0.340). In findings of subgroup analysis according to affiliation of raters, Inter-rater agreement(%) and Kappa coefficient of raters in same affiliation was higher than inter-rater agreement(%) and Kappa coefficient of raters in different affiliation except 'dryness / dampness' item. Conclusions : It is necessary to improve objectivity and reproducibility of pattern identification using nasal endoscopy for allergic rhinitis(AR) through the development of detail-oriented criteria and enhanced training of clinicians with development of standard operating procedures(SOPs).

Objectives : The objective of this study is to analyze the research of Korean medicine for the treatment of sinusitis. Methods : We searched domestic journals for this analysis with the title 'Sinusitis, Rhinosinusitis, Biyeon(鼻淵)'. We searched 'KISS, OASIS, Korean traditional knowledge portal'. Results : Total numbers of searched articles are 103. We selected 14 papers; 5 systematic reviews, 9 clinical trials. Systematic reviews deal with cause, treatment, herbal medicine and acu-points of sinusitis. Clinical trials deal with treatment cases of Korean medicine which are failed to treatment of western medicine which is antibiotics and surgery. Conclusions : Positive effect of Korean medicine on sinusitis is reported but cases are less and research cases are limited. We conclude that well-designed clinical studies are needed.

Objectives : The aim of this study is to report the effect of Korean Medicine Treatment for patient with ophthalmoplegia in Miller-Fisher Syndrome. Methods : A patient with ophthalmoplegia treated with herbal medicine, cupping therapy and acupuncture(including pharmacopuncture, electroacupuncture). We used photographs of eye movement to evaluate the changes in symptoms, Scott and Kraft score of left eye, visual field test for measuring peripheral visual field, subjective symptom, and VAS for headache, subjective symptom. Results : After treatment, Scott and Kraft score increase from -4 to -2. Visual field of left side improved from 45° to 80°. Also, other symptoms such as diploma, dizziness, headache, gait disturbance was also improved. There are no adverse effects and no relapse of ophthalmoplegia after 20 days of discharge. Conclusions : This case report suggests that Korean Medicine Treatment can be effective for patient with ophthalmoplegia in Miller-Fisher Syndrome.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to analyze the trends of allergic rhinitis related articles that have been published in the Journal of Korean Medicine Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology & Dermatology(JKOOD). Method : We studied 32 articles of allergic rhinitis published in JKOOD from 1988 to 2018. 24 articles are classified into two categories; treatment-related article and diagnosis-related article which include pattern identification. And we reviewed the other 8 articles briefly in discussion. Results : 16 treatment articles are classified into two categories; 13 case reports and 3 retrospective observation studies. In case reports, the studies are classified into three categories; 3 acupuncture group, 3 herbal medicine group or 7 herbal medicine with other parallel treatments group. Conclusions : Further studies are needed on allergic rhinitis including treatment, alternative medicine and methods of evaluation in order to develop a level of evidence.

Objectives : This study covers the effects of burn treatments using oriental herbal medicine. Methods : The relevant literature was extensively investigated through domestic and international databases and finally 14 papers was selected. The literatures were systematically reviewed and 10 papers capable of quantitative analysis were meta-analyzed. Results : Oriental herbal medicines had a effect on reducing wound healing time, pain and the risk of infection and skin transplantation. Conclusions : We found that oriental herbal medicine was effective and safe for burn treatment.

Miller Fisher syndrome is characterized by ophthalmoplegia, ataxia and areflexia and develops after respiratory tract viral infection. Other events are GI tract infection, vaccination, digitalis intoxication, insect bite and delivery. Diagnosis of Miller Fisher syndrome can be made with clinical history taking, cardinal symptoms and normal findings of CT or MRI. We have experienced a case of Miller Fisher syndrome and treated with herbal medicine, eletro-acupuncture at paralytic external ophthalmic muscles. We enforced electro-acupuncture for 10 minutes daily. We used the PG-306 electro-acupuncture products(Suzuki Iryoki Co. Japan) and applied the low consequence wave of 1-8Hz. In 3 months, all the main symptoms disappered and the patient improved in health. Based on this experience, herbal medicine and eletro-acupuncture can be applied to the Miller Fisher syndrome.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the efficacy of using oriental medical treatment(herbal medicine, acupuncture) with melonis Calyx Vomiting Therapy(MCVT) for trigeminal neuralgia. Methods : We experienced one cases of trigeminal neuralgia treated with oriental medical treatment and melonis Calyx Vomiting Therapy. MCVT is a traditional treatment, which induces vomiting by eating melonis Calyx powder with water. To evaluate the results of this treatment, we used the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and sleeping time. Results : After using MCVT with oriental medical treatment, VAS, sleeping time and clinical symptoms of the patient were improved remarkably. Conclusions : This study suggests that using MCVT with oriental medical treatment is effective on trigeminal neuralgia.

본 연구는 장기간 스테로이드 주사 및 연고, 항히스타민제 복용 등에도 악화된 중증 각화성 결절 양진 환자 치험례이다. 환자에게 한약 투약, 침, 증기, 습부항, 약침, 한방 외용제 치료를 시행한 결과 결절 과각화 감소 및 소양감, 열감, 통증, 수면 장애 등 제반 증상에 치료 효과가 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.
