한국에서 백의호상(白衣好尙) 현상이 고착된 배경에 관한 논의 - 유창선(劉昌宣)의 백의고(白衣考)를 중심으로 - (Discussion on the Background of the Baekeuihosang Phenomenon in Korea - Focusing on Baekeuigo written by Yoo, Changseon -)

  • Korean people have revered the white color and enjoyed wearing white clothes. Various kinds of white clothes have been worn by the Korean people, ranging from everyday wear(便服), and scholar's robe(深衣) for the upper class, to religious costumes like Buddhist monk's robe(僧服), shaman costumes(巫服) and costumes for ancestral rites(祭服), or mourning(喪服). There have been many differing opinions by historians regarding the background of this Baekeuihosang(白衣好尙, the preference for white clothing) tradition and even now, it is frequently being discussed. This study aims to consider and discuss the background of this Baekeuihosang tradition, focusing on Chang-seon Yoo's Baekeuigo(白衣考, the consideration of white clothing), which was published in Dong-A Ilbo in 1934. The purposes of studying literature such as the Baekeuigo is to analyze the arguments on the origin of Baekeuihosang, to analyze Chang-seon Yoo's claim of its origin, and to discuss the culture of Baekeuihosang. Chang-seon Yoo claimed that the existing discussions on the background of Baekeuihosang based on the lack of dyes, or undeveloped technique, economic privation and national control strayed from historical facts, according to literature review. It is not worth discussing the farfetched arguments such as the use of costumes for ancestral rites as everyday wears, or the nation of sorrow. Baekeuihosang tradition mostly originated from the effects of many religions and the taste for innocence, or naturalness. White clothes were infused with the sorrow and emotion of Korean people and were also worn to show resistance to foreign power as symbols of ethnicity. Therefore, there should be a new view of the discussion of white clothes and Korean aesthetic sense, away from the logic distorted by the Japanese colonial view of history.

역사적 고찰을 통한 구순열 치료의 이해 (Understanding of Cleft Lip Managment by Review of Treatment History)

  • Cleft lip is a common congenital facial deformity which might cause speech, hearing, appearance, and psychological disorder. For the purpose of appropriate management for the cleft lip patients according to their individual situations, reviews of the historical evolution for the cleft lip treatment were summarized. More than 15 English written articles with 4 related historical books were reviewed, and the chronology of the cleft lip management from ancient to recent twenty first century, via middle ages and Renaissance, were summarized. Multifactorial causes of cleft lip, before the modern understanding of embryological background of it, most management of cleft lip has been explained under the basis of religions and/or superstitions. As the anatomic and embryologic knowledges were known and revealed, various misconceptions were corrected continously, and the simple closure of the lip defect was also evoluted to the applications of plastic concept. Recently, cosmetic outcomes with functional results, such as speech, hearing, psychological status, have been considered importantly, under the multidiciplinary care system. For the better understanding of cleft lip management as a routine esthtetic and funtional reconstructive procedure, the various historical treatment trends were reviewed and summarized as time goes on. This review presentation will discuss the appropriate management for cleft lip patients.

세계 강군의 다문화 적용사례 연구 (A Case Study of Multicultural Applications of World Military Powers)

  • 대한민국 육군은 우리 사회 최대 화두 중 하나인 지속적인 출산율 감소와 저출산 문제가 병력 부족으로 인한 안보 공백으로 이어질 것을 예측하고, 2010년 병역법을 개정하여 이전까지 입대에 제한을 두었던 '외관상 명백한 혼혈인'의 입대를 의무화했다. 그 결과 2011년에는 50여 명의 다문화 가족 자녀가 입대하였으며, 당시 병무청은 2020년이후 매년 8천 명 이상이 입대할 것으로 예상하였다. 이는 육군에 또 다른 도전을 야기한다. 서로 다른 언어, 종교, 식습관에 대한 이해와 존중이 결여될 경우 구성원들 간의 갈등이 발생할 수 있으며 이는 전투력 약화로 이어질 것이다. 이에 세계 강군의 다문화 적용 사례 연구를 통해 다문화에 대한 존중의 성공, 실패 역사와 현재 미(美) 육군의 다문화 존중 정책을 연구하여 우리 육군의 지향점을 고찰하고자 한다.

A Study on Architectural Design Factors for Tall Office Buildings with Regional Climates based on Sustainability

  • Throughout history, buildings have been interrelated with certain indigenous characteristics such as regional climate, culture and religions. In particular, the control of regional climate has been primarily a concern for compatibility with nature. In our modern age, technologies to control climate have been successfully developed in architecture but the consumption of large quantities of natural resources can also produce environmental problems. This study is based on the proposition that this negative trend can be minimized with architectural design that is motivated to coexist with a regional climate. This study develops these design strategies for tall office buildings by analyzing various combinations of building design configurations based on regional climates. The objective is to determine the optimum architecture of tall office buildings during the initial design process that will reduce energy consumption for regional climatic conditions. The eQUEST energy simulating program based on DOE-2.2 was used for this comparative analysis study of the energy use in tall office buildings based on architectural design variables and different regional climates. The results are statistically analyzed and presented in functional architectural design decision-making tables and charts. As a result of the comparison of architectural design consideration for tall office buildings in relation to regional climates, buildings physically need less energy consumption when the architecture is concerned with the regional climate and it produces a more reasonable design methodology. In reality, imbalanced planning which is architectural design's lack of regional characteristics requires additional natural resources to maintain desired comfortable indoor conditions. Therefore, the application of integrated architectural design with regional nature should be the first architectural design stage and this research produces the rational. This architectural design language approach must be a starting point to sustaining long-term planning.

예멘과 에티오피아의 문화이해와 지역협력 방안 연구 (A study on cultural understanding and regional cooperation in Yemen and Ethiopia)

  • 본 연구는 커피를 선호하는 한국인들에게 예멘·에티오피아의 문화적 차이를 이해하고 지역협력 방안을 찾고자 하는 것이다. 이슬람지역은 직접 협력을 할 수 없어 커피산업을 통한 교류방법을 고려하였다. 이를 위해 먼저 지역적 교류 모델과 선행연구를 조사하였고, 초기 문화와 종교의 특징을 알아보고 문화완충과 예멘의 이슬람 분쟁역사를 통한 정치종교적 지역 관계를 알아보았고 마지막으로 커피지역을 비교하기 위해 지역 커피산업과 문화에 대해 설명하였다. 결론적으로 이슬람 연구에 대한 지역 협력을 위한 교육이 필요하며 이를 위해 첫째, 문화 충돌 극복, 둘째, 새로운 전략적 지역협력, 셋째, 종교보다 문화적 접근, 넷째, 새로운 기술적 지역협력, 다섯째, 예멘 난민 지역협력 병행, 여섯째, 에티오피아에서의 교두보(예멘 교역지역협력) 등의 방식을 제안하였다.

대순사상의 역학적 조명 - 종지(宗旨)를 중심으로 - (Daesoon Thought Explained Through the Philosophy of the Book of Change)

  • The Four Tenets of Daesoon thought are the Creative conjunction of the virtues of Eum and Yang, the Harmonious union of divine beings and human beings, the Resolution of grievances for the mutual beneficence of all life and the Realization of the Dao in the world. This article compares the concepts of the "Creative conjunction of the virtues of Eum and Yang", the "Harmonious union of divine beings and human beings" and the "Resolution of grievances for the mutual beneficence of all life" with "EumYangDaeDaeRon", "ShinMyonKiDeok", the Theory of Mutual Giving Life / Mutual Destruction (SangSaeng/SangGeukRon) of the Book of Changes and analyzes their common and different points. The conclusion is that Daesoon thought and the philosophy of the Book of Changes share common fundamental standpoints. However, the Daesoon thought defines the world of SeonCheon (the state before the Heaven and Earth have been created) as Mutual Giving Life (SangSaeng), and the world of HuCheon (the state after the Heaven and Earth have been created) as Mutual Destruction (SangGeuk). According to Daesoon thought the Mutual Destruction (SangGeuk) is seen as negative, while according to the philosophy of the Book of Changes the Theory of Mutual Giving Live/Mutual Destruction (SangSaeng/SangGeukRon) is viewed as a positive relationship of EumYangDaeDae. This is a point of difference between the Daesoon thought and the philosophy of the Book of Changes. According to EumYangDaeDae relationship theory the contradictory "other" is viewed not as an enemy, but as a necessary element that assures one's existence. When Buddhism and Christianity first came to existence, they did not belong to a main stream. Later, through continuous theorization and systematization they became generally accepted religions. The case of Confucianism was not much different. During Song dynasty in China Buddhism has contributed to the systematization and establishment of Neo-Confucianism; in the middle of 20th century the Confucian scholars of Hong Kong and Taiwan interpreted and defined Confucianism a new in the light of Western philosophy. Thus the "Modern Neo-Confucianism" came to existence. That's why the history of Confucianism is also called "the history of advancing and developing a concept". From this point of view the critical acceptance of some elements of Confucian, Buddhist, Taoist etc. traditions, as well as modern philosophy, by Daesoon, in order to achieve the systematization of Daesoon thought, is a very important process. As a part of this process, this essay explains the Daesoon thought from the point of view of the Book of Changes, which may be said to present the original East-Asian view of the world. Daesoon's emphasis of human dignity, the equality of sexes, the critics the hierarchical society etc. are rather "modern" and should be examined from the point of view of social science. Besides, leaving the boundaries of "modern philosophy", the concepts of "Harmonious union of divine beings and human beings", viewing the universe as one organism etc. should be approached from the point of view of Post-Modernism.

동양목조탑파(東洋木造塔婆)의 구조형식(構造形式)에 관한 연구(硏究) - 법주사(法住寺) 팔상전(捌相殿)과 법륭사(法隆寺) 오중탑(五重塔)의 비교분석적 측면에서 - (The Structure of Oriental Wooden Pagoda)

  • This dissertation aims to investigate the structure of Palsangjeon, a five story wooden pagoda in Pubjoo Temple which is the only wooden pagoda existing in Korea, by a comparative study of the Palsangjeon with Japanese counterparts. By doing so, the writer of the present investigation attempts to find out its structural originality. The main finding of this study are as follows. The upper part of Palsangjeon is constructed with square log frameworks called GuiTl and Sacheon-Ju around the central column. The four walls along Sacheon-Ju from the 1st level to the 3rd well resists the outside horizontal piressure. And Gui-Tl structure on the 5th level copes much better with shear force. So this frame consisting of Sacheon-Ju and log frameworks might be viewed an semi-core system, This core is supported once again by the frame of Go-Ju. That is to say. Go-Ju supports frame of Sacheon-Ju. And the frame of Pyeong-Ju on the 4th and the 5th levels also supports it. The frame of Go-Ju is supported by the frame of Pyeong-Ju on the 1st and the 2nd levels. So this structure is designed to resist the wind and also keep the balance by properly distributing vertical pressure. The plan and the elevational structure of Palsangjeon keep the balance by the perfect symmetric structure. And the frame of Sacheon-Ju forming semi-core system can resist both the lateral load and the vertical pressure for the balance of its structure. The five story pagoda in Horyuji used to stand on a central which is desigend to support the main body of the pagoda from the first level. The principles of balance is used between the Ha-Aag and short to react the rafter. Sacheon-Ju and edge column is against the lateral load. The structural jointing system is stable thanks to the log framewroks formed on every level. The five story pagoda in Horyuji poseses the structual system originated from the ancient wooden pagoda. The pagoda is found to express simple, sincere and straight forward form. On the other hand, it could be seen as a stucture resisting the earthquake and the lateral load, Palsangjeon is an excellent building which religions function is well harmonized with its structure and appearance. It not only functions extremely well as a regions place like other pagodas, but also excellently shows how multi-story wooden building should be structured.

대순진리회 수행 연구의 경향과 과제 (Research Trends and Problems on Cultivation Practice of Daesoonjinrihoe)

  • This paper was carried out to bring the researches on Cultivation Practice of Daesoonjinrihoe which have been at a standstill after analyzing the directions of studies on Cultivation Practice and diagnosing its problems, in addition to that, the paper was also conducted in a way of discussing the research directions in the future. This work enables scholars who have interests in Daesoon Thoughts to easily comprehend over the length and breadth of Cultivation Practice of Daesoonjinrihoe as well as help them understand what level of researches regarding Cultivation Practice has been demanded. Furthermore, this paper will be a step-stone for scholars to ponder how and on what perspective they approach a wide variety of studies on Daesoon Thoughts. The problems reflected on the previous researches on Cultivation Practice are summarized as follows: first, except a few researches in general, problem recognition, research target, style, method, and content are not diverged from the frame defined by Jang Byeong-Gil, who set it up in Daesoon Religion and Thought (Daesoon Jonggyo Sasang) in 1989. Proliferating overlapped researches without developing problem awareness is of great concern. And such researching climate has gradually set in. Secondly, there are numerous researches intending to reveal the researcher's forceful attitude implying faith. Thirdly, most of the previous researches neglect to focus on defining the range of researches. Fourthly, when defining concepts, more thorough insight is needed. Lastly, the researches on analysing symbols and attempting signification analysis are relatively few, only to find many errors. To solve these problems, this paper suggests to develop theories which back up Cultivation Practice by researching on the fields of theory of mind-nature(心性), theory of mind-qi(心氣), theory of pain, Religious Ethics, viewpoint of God/gods, and psychology. Secondly, all the symbols and meanings of elements shown in Cultivation Practice need analyzing more elaborately sophisticatedly and more in-depth. In order to fulfil this goal, by adapting the recent trends of historical studies, it is essential to attempt to engraft Cultivation Practice of Daesoonjinrihoe on cultural phenomena, to analyze thick layers of meanings beneath its surface, to interpret differently, utilizing various perspectives such as focusing on the gender problems, and to extract true meanings out of Cultivation Practice by analyzing everyday events which can occur in real cultivation practices. Thirdly, the terms and concepts regarding Cultivation Practice base the principle themselves. Fourthly, by utilizing methodology of comparative studies on religions, the comparative researches on cultivation practice of different religious traditions are also needed. Lastly, the history of aspects on Cultivation Practice such as transition of mantras, processes which have been conducted through proprieties of prayer and training should be collected and classified. In this context, this work is very important since it helps understand the aspects of transition of originality and characteristics in Cultivation Practice of Daesoonjinrihoe according to passage of time.

  • 유럽에서 종교, 문화 언어, 그리고 역사적 배경의 다양성은 거대하다. 이차세계대전과 소비에트연합은 유럽에서 커다란 역할을 한다. 다른 대륙에서 난민의 유입은 다원주의를 증가시킨다. 종교교육은 이러한 차이의 다리 역할에 주목한다. 유럽 대륙에서 언어는 매우 다양하다. 나라와 발음, 심지어 개별 국가에서도 차이가 있다. 이것은 문화 감수성과 세대 간의 집단별 차이를 발생시킨다. 중등교육은 청소년들이 그들 사회에 대한 견고한 뿌리를 내리는 인격 형성의 중요한 역할을 한다. 중등교육에서 청소년의 핵심 가치와 문화적 기반을 검증하는 학습은 필수적이다. 종교교육의 핵심은 그러한 가치를 검토하는 것이다. 그러나 학교는 현재 점차 증가하는 학생들의 비종교성에 적응해야 하는 도전에 직면하고 있다. 종교적 가치는 이러한 상황 속에서 어떠한 역할을 하는가? 학생들은 종교 기관에 적극적으로 참여하는 것에 대해서 어떠한 느낌을 가지는가? 그리고 종교적 신념에 대한 삶의 선택에 대해서 어떠한 생각을 가지는가? 비종교적 가치가 가치 기반의 인격을 지닌 타자의 인격적 기초를 형성하는 것을 파악할 수 있는가? 비종교적 가치는 가치 기반의 인격 형성의 기초를 형성할 수 있는가? 이러한 주제에 대한 연구는 네덜란드에서 20년 이상 지속해 온 것이다. 그리고 현재 체코슬로바키아와 동독 지역으로 확산되고 있다. 이러한 주제는 세속화된 나라에서 그리고 다른 역사에서도 현저하다. 역사와 이러한 국가의 상황은 학습자들에게 중요한 가치를 보여주고 그들의 역할을 가시화한다. 비교 연구는 이러한 유럽 국가의 학습자의 가치를 검토하는 것에 보다 폭 넓은 관점을 제공한다. 이러한 지식은 종교 기반의 세계관 교육의 형성과 계획에 도움이 된다.

종교언어로서의 '원시반본(原始返本)' 개념 재검토 (Re-examining the Concept of 'Seeking Out the Original Root (原始返本)' as an Example of Religious Language)

  • 대순진리회에서 사용되는 여러 종교언어들의 개념을 확립하는 연구는 아직 미완이다. 이 글은 이에 대한 문제 제기로서, 그 첫 사례로 대순진리회의 종교언어 가운데 하나인 원시반본(原始返本)을 설명한 기존 연구들을 비판적으로 검토하고 새로운 관점에서의 개념을 다시 제기해 본 것이다. 원시반본은 대순진리회가 구축하는 종교적 세계를 설명한다는 점에서 그 중요도가 높다. 그런데 원시반본에 대한 기존 연구들은 거의 모두가 '복귀(Returning)'라는 관점과 '순환사관'을 견지하고 있어서, 그 종교언어가 구축해내는 종교적 세계는 과거를 지향점으로 삼는다거나 혹은 우주의 순환법칙에 따라 저절로 구현되는 것이라는 오해를 만들어내고 있다. 이러한 연구 결과들은 대순진리회 세계관을 제대로 설명해내지 못한다. 왜냐하면 대순진리회는 상제께서 행하신 개벽공사와 그 결과물인 후천 지상선경이 운수에 없던 것이자 과거에 존재한 적이 없었던 유일무이한 것이라고 규정하기 때문이다. 원시반본 개념은 복귀와 순환사관의 틀에서 탈피하여 대순사상의 고유성을 확보하는 방향으로 설정되어져야만 한다. 그러한 관점에서 이 글이 제시했던 원시반본 개념을 요약하면 다음과 같다: "후천 개벽을 이루기 위한 천지공사의 원리 가운데 하나인 원시반본은 문명·문화·도법 등 모든 것의 근본과 근원을 찾아가는 것이다. 찾았다면 그 뿌리와 시작점에 대한 사실 관계를 인정하는 것으로부터 출발하여, 그 인정했던 것을 유지·계승·사용하거나, 철폐하거나, 해소·보수·수정하게 된다. 그리고 대개 그 근본은 보은의 입장에서 다루어진다. 이 모두는 상제의 결정과 공사에 이루어지는 일이며, 이렇게 만들어진 그 결과물은 후천 지상선경의 문화를 건설하기 위한 기초로 활용된다." 이러한 개념 설정은 복귀 및 운도론적 순환사관을 배제시킨 것이며, 역동적 구조주의 관점에 입각하여 단계를 따라가는 유동적인 틀로써 원시반본의 개념을 담아내었다는 점에서 원시반본에 대한 기존 연구들과는 차별된다고 할 수 있다.
