  • The reading culture promotion for the disabled is a key task of library which minimizes the level of information poverty, and improves the living standards of the people. In order to address the promotional methods, this study adopts a frame from a reading culture promotion policy, and analyzes national and international library services for the disabled. In results, the current library services for the disabled are mainly based on 'building appropriate reading environments' and guaranteeing 'equal reading opportunities'. However, campaigns or tasks targeting the disabled which makes reading a way of life are insufficient. This study, therefore, suggests 'reading education', 'reading therapy', 'user-oriented program development' to make reading a way of life. Library promoting strategies can also be useful in campaign of reading activities for the disabled.

Method: Data was collected from 30 parents with disabled preschoolers attending an early education center in a community. The program consisted of handouts, small group lectures, support group meetings on understanding the disabled child-parents relationship, communication skill improvement, non-punitive discipline techniques, and influences of child abuse. A non equivalent pre-post test design was employed. Result: Ecological variables, and parenting self-efficacy, had a significant effect on child abuse potential in parents with a disabled child. By regression parenting self-efficacy showed(27.1 %) child abuse potential. Both parenting self-efficacy and beliefs in corporal punishment directly related to (52.0%) child abuse potential in parents. The program was effective inbringing some positive changes on pareting self-efficacy beliefs in corporal punishment, and child abuse potential toward disabled children. However, marital discord was not significantly effected. Conclusion: Child abuse prevention programs should decrease thechild abuse potential in parents. Thus I recommend a child abuse prevention program development; for parents with disabled adolescents, and teachers in disabled child education.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate employer's attitude towards mentally disabled people. Methods: The Lee (1996)'s questionnaire of community people's attitude on perception for mentally disabled people was used to collect data from 208 employers in Busan City. ${\chi}^2$-test and t-test were used to explore related factors of employer's attitude. Results: Employers having experience of hiring physically or mentally disabled people showed higher CAMI scores (p=.002). Especially, employers having experience of hiring mentally disabled people showed higher scores in four components of authoritarianism, benevolence, social restrictiveness, and community mental health ideology than any other groups. In addition, we found differences in employers' attitude on authoritarianism and benevolence according to types of industries and the number of employees. Conclusion: We could suggest that employers experience of employing disabled and mentally disabled people could improve their positive attitude. Therefore, we call for various efforts and programs development to encourage employers to hire mentally disabled people.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the difference between the standard 'design guideline' in barrier free laws for the disabled and the disabled's real experience in public convenient facilities. It is mainly focused on accessibility by the disabled people who use an electric motion wheel chair, a wheel chair and crutches as well as a visual impaired person in the public resident centers. For this purpose, four resident centers in Busan have been selected as the objects of investigation. We observed and video recorded the disabled people with various handicaps to access and use facilities in four resident centers, and interviewed them afterwards. We found out problems from the perspective of the disabled and figured out the difference between barrier free laws and the disabled's real experience. The research result is as follows. First, it is important to make the arrangement of public convenient facilities according to the flow of the user's movements. Second, it is necessary to provide better conditions for the disabled to access the public toilet easily and conveniently. Third, it is essential for public convenient facilities to be more strictly controlled by regulations. Fourth, we need to make better standards that could reflect real experiences of various disabled users. Fifth, we need to keep providing the best follow-up service for the disabled in terms of using public convenient facilities safely. This study can contribute for designers to understand specific users through their experiences and suggest improvement ideas for better public convenient Facilities.

Data were analyzed using descriptive analyses, t-test, analysis of variance, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression using SPSS 20.0. Results: The participants' scores for empathic abilities, communication competence, and attitudes toward the disabled were 3.63, 3.69, and 3.54 points, respectively. A significant positive correlation was observed between empathic abilities and attitudes toward the disabled. Regarding the sub-elements of empathic abilities, the participants' attitudes toward the disabled had a significant positive correlation with the scales measuring their perspective-taking abilities and personal distress (p<.05). Due to legal and practical limitations, the National Library for the Disabled must invest annual budget to collect materials for the disabled and focus on purchasing them. In addition, it is necessary to establish a strategy for comprehensive collection of educational and academic resources, as well as retrospective materials. Accordingly, this study conducted basic research to comprehensively collect resources on the disabled based on the current collection development policy of the National Library for the Disabled. Ten institutions were selected for investigation, and trends in the publication and collection of materials related to disabled people and disability-related data were analyzed based on the data obtained from those institutions. The basic collection catalog presented can serve as foundational data to determine the resources to be collected by the National Library for the Disabled in the future.
