A Study on the Development of Elementary Mathematics Textbooks as a Thematic Approach (주제 중심의 초등학교 수학교과서 모형 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the elementary mathematics textbooks as a thematic approach, to suggest meaningful directions to future textbook development and curriculum development. For this study, we suggested mathematics textbooks of the three-themes, 'Healthy Life', 'Sustainable Life', 'Living-together Life', as multi-disciplinary, inter-disciplinary, and extra-disciplinary types. With the problems that employed thematic approaches, the post-achievement scores of experimental groups who used 'Healthy Life' and 'Sustainable Life' textbooks were meaningfully higher than those of control groups. However, the post-achievement scores of experimental groups who used 'Living-together Life' textbook were not meaningfully higher than those of control groups. The attitudes towards mathematics of all three experimental groups were meaningfully higher than those of control groups. After applications of elementary mathematics textbooks as a thematic approach, we need to develop related materials, to consider various grades, levels, regions for developing better mathematics textbooks.

Analysis of Multi-Cultural Education Contents of 'Human Development and Family' Area of Middle School Technology-Home Economics Textbooks in Accordance with the 2015 Revised Curriculum (2015 개정 교육과정 중학교 기술·가정 교과서 '인간발달과 가족' 영역에 반영된 다문화교육 내용 분석)

  • The purpose of this research study was to examine how multi-cultural education contents are reflected in the contents related to the 'Human Development and Family' area of middle school Technology-Home Economics textbooks, based on the multi-cultural education criteria developed by Paek(2014). The sample of the study consisted of the 'Human Development and Family' contents in 'Technology-Home Economics 1·2' textbooks from five publishers (10 volumes) written in accordance with the 2015 revised curriculum. The research results of the study can be summarized as follows: First, all the four multi-cultural education criterion components were shown in the textbooks from five publishers. Cooperation was shown in the highest frequency, followed by Identity, Diversity, and Equality. Second, the analyses of text, image, and learning activities in the textbooks confirmed that Home Economics as a subject contains multi-cultural education contents that allow students to establish self and identity, respect others, accept diverse family patterns, understand family changes from multiple viewpoints, and form family community culture from gender equality perspective without prejudice. Ultimately, it can be concluded that Home Economics is a subject that enables learners to learn how individuals and families can cooperate and care for each other in order to harmoniously coexist.

High School Mathematics Teachers' Conception of Mathematics Textbooks Based on Storytelling (고등학교 수학 교사의 스토리텔링 수학 교과서에 대한 이해)

  • Korean Ministry of Education Science, and Technology(MEST) has recommended the introduction of mathematics textbooks based on storytelling to improve the teaching and learning of mathematics in school. As part of the mathematics textbooks based on storytelling development, this research has investigated school mathematics teachers' perspectives on mathematics textbooks based on storytelling in order to identify implications for the development and the implementation of it. For the purpose, we have developed survey questionnaire and administered it to 113 high school mathematics teachers. The survey asked the teachers to address their conception of mathematics textbooks based on storytelling, its contribution to school mathematics, challenges and obstacles for the implementation. The survey shows that the mathematics teachers' conception of mathematics textbooks based on storytelling was not clear or limited. Most of them replied that they received information about mathematics textbooks based on storytelling from the materials provided by workshop or materials of school district office. While the teachers heard about that school will implement mathematics textbooks based on storytelling, they rarely had idea of how to use them in class. In the survey, the teachers identified which type of storytelling is effective for which purpose of mathematics education. They also identified the positive effect and the difficulties in the implementation of mathematics textbooks based on storytelling. The mathematics teachers pointed out that textbook is not enough. They urged that the implementation of mathematics textbooks based on storytelling should be integrated into classroom teaching and assessment to make a significant change in the educational practice of mathematics in school. Thus, mathematics teachers need support to implement mathematics textbooks based on storytelling into their teaching practice. Teacher workshop and teacher manuals need to be developed to help teachers understand educational visions and values of mathematics textbooks based on storytelling. These results of the survey would form the worthwhile base information for the development and the implementation of mathematics textbooks based on storytelling.

An Analysis on Occupational Content in the Technology & Home Economics Textbooks of High School (고등학교 기술·가정 교과서의 직업 내용 분석)

  • This study analyzed content of and recognition on occupations shown from Technology Home Economics textbooks of the high school elective subject having a higher connection with the career development capability for the occupational world as shown from a curriculum analysis. Hence, this study selected 3 kinds of high school Technology Home Economics textbooks with a higher share from 6 in the 2007 revised curriculum and analyzed a frequency by characteristic of occupational content and recognition on description of a occupation. Content analyzed by researchers was examined by 2 school teachers to ensure the validity and objectivity of research findings. Research findings show that there is a great deal of frequency difference in occupations suggested by publisher and unit in the Technology Home Economics subject. Also suggestion frequency of the occupational classification by level from Korean standard industrial classification did not correspond to an actual situation of employment. Occupation names suggested from textbooks occupied 3.3% of those by Korean Occupation Dictionary, showing a higher suggestion ratio at occupations preferred by adolescents. In the textbooks, occupations were suggested from reading materials, photos and illustrations more than from texts. Recognition on descriptions of occupations showed for the most part the neutral(82.8%) and the positive16.2%)', and there was no biased intention even from some negative cases(1.0%). Based on research findings, this research has significance in that it suggested things to be considered for teaching career development capability in the high school Technology Home Economics subject and need for cultivating teachers' specialty to understand occupations and instruct career development. It also suggested improvements to be required for a new curriculum textbook.

A Study on the list of Chinese Characters Idioms with Korean Education Selected for Married Immigrant Women (결혼이주여성 대상 교육용 한자성어 목록 선정 방안)

  • In South Korea nowadays, Among the married immigrant women in Korea, the proportion of long-term residents living in Korea for more than 10 years is increasing continuously(48%), while the proportion of short-term residents who are under 5 years is decreasing(16%). However, Korean language education and related research in the Marriage and Immigration Women's Center are still focused on the initial immigrants. Therefore, we should classify married immigrant women according to their stay time in Korea, so that Korean language education and teaching materials need to be more diversified. This study focuses on married immigrant women with intermediate and advanced Korean proficiency and chooses a catalogue of Chinese characters idioms to explore the possibility and educational value of using Chinese characters Idioms in Korean education. According to the research results, Chinese characters idiom education can help married immigrant women in Korean language learning and information acquisition, interpersonal relationships and life attitudes, cultural understanding and social adaptation, child rearing and learning guidance. This is the important part of Korean language education that needs to be guided by married immigrant women. Based on this, 130 Chinese characters idioms in Korean language education and textbook development centered on married immigrant women were selected and catalogue edited in four stages. It is hoped that the results of this study will serve as a reference for Korean language education research and textbook development for married immigrant women in the future.

  • 정보통신 기술 발달에 따른 사회적 변화는 생활 전반에 중대한 영향을 미치고 있다. 교육 분야에서도 수준별 교육과정을 통하여 자기주도적 학습을 강조하면서 초등 과학과의 목표에서도 과학적 소양의 함양이 강조되고 있다. 따라서 과학과의 다양한 분야를 직접 실험할 수 없는 문제점 등을 해결 하는 방안으로 전자적 도구의 활용 방안-전자교과서-이 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 전자교과서에 대한 개념을 정리하고, 초등학교 과학과 '열의 이동과 우리 생활' 단원을 대상으로 전자교과서를 개발하여, 현장 수업을 통해 전자교과서의 학습효과를 검증하고자 한다.

  • It is an after-school material for elementary school student based on STEAM education which has a theme of water pollution as a global issue. First of all, we take a look at various ways of measuring water pollution and among them, we include experiment for student to know about the water pollution by using indicator organisms. Next, we examine how some elements in our daily life affect on water and provide class with systematically technological and engineering solution. With this text book, we let the student recognize environmental problem and seek for the solution about it. Therefore, it helps student to connect with stream of thought.

The practical exemplification of producing English textbooks for secondary school students (중등 영어과 교과서 집필의 실제)

  • This study is to explore one of efficient procedures in producing English textbooks for secondary school students. According to a series of changes in the National Curriculum, new textbooks have been selected and used in English classes. Textbooks are one of the fundamental factors in teaching and learning languages together with learners and teachers. So this study emphasizes the significance of textbooks and presents the practical model of producing English textbooks including activity books, from major aspects such as planning, writing, editing, selecting, etc. The current government has made continuing efforts to improve English education development by administrating innovative policies [strategies]. However, there still remain lots of difficulties in this gigantic task, which is not an exception in the matter of textbooks. Therefore, to provide students with better textbooks, the government should not only invest great funds but also renovate the present polluted system of selecting textbooks.

  • 한국정보올림피아드 경시대회 초등부 전국대회를 준비하는 학생들을 위해 본 교재를 개발하고자 한다. 본 교재는 J.S.Bruner의 표상이론에 맞게 알고리즘의 진행 절차를 시각화하여 이해가 쉽고 빠르게 되도록 구성하였으며 이를 실제 코드로 작성하여 자신의 논리를 프로그래밍 언어로 표현할 수 있게 하였다. 또한 기출문제, 확인문제 등을 통하여 배운 알고리즘을 확실하게 익혔는지 확인한다. 이러한 교재 개발이 경시대회를 준비하는 초등학생들에게 관련 도서가 전무하여 기회를 놓치버리는 일 등이나 사교육비를 들여 학원에만 의존해야 하는 최근의 경향에 대한 대안으로 사용되기 바란다.

  • 컴퓨터와 통신의 발달은 멀티미디어 개발 및 보급에 기여하였으며, 특히 인쇄매체를 대체하고 '전자'화된 전자교과서 시대를 열었다. 그리하여 그 동안 많은 전자교과서 모형 설계 및 개발이 이루어져 왔으며, 그 효과 또한 입증 된 바 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 전자교과서의 이점을 살려 초등학교 특별활동 의식행사 활성화에 기여하고자 한다. 현행 초등학교에서 특별활동 일환으로 실시되고 있는 의식행사는 '교과교육 외의 활동'으로 취급 되어 지면서, 교과서 없이 지도서만 가지고 형식적이고 한시적인 내부계획에 따라 진행 되었다. 이에 초등학교 특별활동 의식행사 전자교과서 모형 개발을 제안한다. 이 모형은 학습자로 하여금 다양한 멀티미디어 자료 학습을 통해 흥미와 관심을 갖고 의식행사에 참여할 수 있게 설계 하였으며, 기존의 전자교과서 기능에서 전자노트 기능을 추가하였다. 또한 교수자 측면에서는 전자교과서를 쉽고 간단하게 학습에 적용시킬 수 있도록, 학습모형에 기반 하여 설계함은 물론, 학습자료 구성하기 및 훈화자료 만들기 시스템을 통해 전자교과서의 활용 폭을 넓혔다.
