  • In this paper, we propose a new method for multispectral image compression that is based on highly correlated relational properly taken from a spatial image and its wavelet transform. The highly active regions, such as edges or contour, in the spatial domain are appeared as significant coefficients in the wavelet transform domain; and the low active regions like background as insignificant. These characteristics play an important role in designing the system. The simulation results have shown us that the proposed method has better performance in terms of the reconstructed image quality and the transmitted bit rakes. Practically, our system can be successfully applied to the application areas that require of progressive transmission. For some multispectral images with relatively low activity, we have obtained the more good results.

  • This paper presents a new prediction method RBP region-based prediction model where the context used for prediction contains regions instead of individual pixels. There is a meaningful property that RBP can partition a cartoon image into two distinctive types of regions, one containing full-color backgrounds and the other containing boundaries, edges and home-chromatic areas. With the development of computer techniques, synthetic images created with CG (computer graphics) becomes attactive. Like the demand on data compression, it is imperative to efficiently compress synthetic images such as cartoon animation generated with CG for storage of finite capacity and transmission of narrow bandwidth. This paper a lossy compression method to full-color regions and a lossless compression method to homo-chromatic and boundaries regions. Two criteria for partitioning are described, constant criterion and variable criterion. The latter criterion, in form of a linear function, gives the different threshold for classification in terms of contents of the image of interest. We carry out experiments by applying our method to a sequence of cartoon animation. We carry out experiments by applying our method to a sequence of cartoon animation. Compared with the available image compression standard MPEG-1, our method gives the superior results in both compression ratio and complexity.

  • In this paper, a 2-circular matrix theory is developed, and a concept of spectral radius for biorthogonal wavelet is introduced. We propose a novel design method by minimizing the spectral radius and obtain a wavelet which has better performance than the famous 9-7 wavelet in terms of image compression coding.

  • In this paper, we introduce modified integer transforms for lossless image compression and evaluate their performances for two-dimensional transforms. The two-dimensional extensions of the modified integer transforms show different performances in terms of coding efficiency and computational complexity. Thus, we measure performances for two-dimensional separable transforms and a two-dimensional non-separable transform. The separable modified integer transform used in H.264, the modified integer transform using the lifting scheme, and the non-separable transform in JPEG XR are evaluated in this paper. Also, experiments and their results are given. The experimental results indicate that the modified integer transform using the lifting scheme shows the best performance in terms of compression efficiency.

  • Future land remote sensing satellite systems will kikely be constrained in terms of communication band-width. To alleviate this limitation, the data must be compressed. Image data obtained from satellite exhibit a high degree of spatial and spectral correlations that must be properly exploited. In this paper we propose multispectral image data compression using wavelet transform and selective predicted vector quantization. Th eproposed method is based on accuratly predicting other band from reference band and reducing bit rate through threshold map. we can achieve better compression effeciency than conventional methods.

  • This paper proposes an efficient hardware implementation of SPIHT(Set Partitoning In Hierarchical Tree) algorithm for image compression with the discrete wavelet transform. An efficient technique to scan the coefficients which are located in partitioned spatial orientation trees by DWT is considered in terms of counter fields for sorting pass and refinement pass. The proposed image compression method using SPIHT has been modeled in VHDL and has been implemented by use of both TMS320C6000 as a DSP and Virtex2 as a Xilinx FPGA.

  • MPEG-NNR (Compressed Representation of Neural Networks) aims to define a compressed and interoperable representation of trained neural networks. In this paper, a compressed representation of NN and its evaluation performance along with use cases of image/video compression in MPEG-NNR are presented. In the compression of NN, a CNN to replace the in-loop filter in VVC (Versatile Video Coding) intra coding is compressed by applying uniform quantization to reduce the trained weights, and the compressed CNN is evaluated in terms of compression ratio and coding efficiency compared to the original CNN. Evaluation results show that CNN could be compressed to about quarter with negligible coding loss by applying simple quantization to the trained weights.

  • A new compressed image format is proposed to use a large size of image in mobile games without the constraints of hardware specifications such as memory amount, processing power, which encodes each block of a large size image in scan line order. Using the experiments, we show the effectiveness of proposed method compared with a general PNG in terms of compression ratios and required memory in decoding processes. Also, the loading delay can be reduced by decoding only the displaying area of a large image in run-time.

  • Previous works related to texture coordinate coding of the three-dimensional(3-D) mesh models employed the same predictor as the geometry coder. However, discontinuities in the texture coordinates cause unreasonable prediction. Especially, discontinuities become more serious for the 3-D mesh model with a non-atlas texture image. In this paper, we propose a new coding scheme to remove discontinuities in the texture coordinates by reallocating texture segments according to a coding order. Experiment results show that the proposed coding scheme outperforms the MPEG-4 3DMC standard in terms of compression efficiency. The proposed scheme not only overcome the discontinuity problem by regenerating a texture image, but also improve coding efficiency of texture coordinate compression.

  • This paper is related to the Region-based Spectral Correlation Estimation(RSCE) coding method that makes it possible to achieve the high-compression ratio by estimating color component images from luminance image. The proposed method is composed of three steps. First, Y/C bit-plane summation image is defined using normalized chrominance summation image and luminance image, and then the Y/C bit-plane summation image is segmented for extracting the shape information of the regions. Secondly, the scale factor and the offset factor minimizing the approximation square errors between luminance image and R, B images by the each region are calculated. Finally, the scale factor and the offset factor for the each region are encoded into bit stream. Referring to the results of computer simulation, the proposed method provides more than two or three times higher compression ratio than JPEG/Baseline or JPEG2000/EBCOT algorithm in terms of bpp needed for encoding two color component images with the same PSNR.
