  • The aim of this study is the confirmation of the coating uniformity affected by the surface tension and wall attachment angle in a slit-coater model. In this work, we use the commercial code (Fluent) to solve the two-phase flow formed with air and photo resist numerically. The results show that the surface tension is the most important factor to determine the coating efficiency in the view of coating uniformity, and the coating uniformity is 2% for our slit-coater model and conditions. To improve the coating uniformity, it is in need of minimization of the sidewall effect of slit-coater.

  • The washing effects on pretilt angle generation in a nematic liquid crystal (NLC), 4-n-pentyl-4'-cyanobiphenyl (5CB) on a rubbed polyimide (PI) surface with trifluoromethyl moiety have been successfully studied. The pretilt angle of 5CB is increased by the washing process on the rubbed PI surface. The surface tension on the rubbed PI surface increases with the rubbing strength RS and then saturated above RS: 150 mm. The pretilt angle of 5CB for all washing processes on the rubbed PI surface decreases with the surface tension. We have found that the pretilt angle of 5CB on the rubbed PI surface may be attributed van der walls (VDW) dispersion interaction between the LC molecules and the polymer surfaces having trifluoromethyl moieties.

  • The microstructure of particle stabilized wet foams can be tailored by using parameters including the amphiphile concentration, contact angle, and surface tension. The influence of these parameters on the porosity is satisfactorily described in terms of a combined influence of the contact angle and surface tension of the initial suspensions that are directly affected by the amphiphile concentration. The resulting macroporous structures exhibited a total porosity of 82%. The foam cells were predominantly closed due to the air bubbles of the original wet foams being completely covered.

  • In this paper, an experimental study have been many studies on the joints of steel structure, for it has great influences on the safety of structures. Research on block shear rupture of the joint receiving pure tension have been done in foreign countries, but not in Korea. This study focuses on the propriety of block shear design code, according to limited state design criteria of steel structures recently established in Korea, by an experiment on the joint of angle tension members. The methods of this study were to compare other study results on block shear rupture mode and ultimate capacity, and to evaluate the propriety of the criteria design code. The result is that tension yield shear ruptures and shear yield tension ruptures happened at the joint, and the experimental rupture load was 15% higher than the capacity entered in the criteria design code. We conclude that it is necessary to revaluate the block shear design code presented by many studies on the limited state design criteria of steel structures.

  • Herein, a theoretical method based on the catenary model Is applied to obtain the tension and drag forces acting on the trash curtain which is deployed at river for the prevention of floating debris inflow into the ocean. Under the assumption that fluid drag is perpendicular to the trash curtain, the tension and drag forces are uniform along the trash curtain. As a numerical model, the trash curtain is moored both symmetrically and asymmetrically with respect to the flow. The tension and drag forces on the trash curtain are investigated according to the change of Bap ratio and inclined angle of the trash curtain. Numerical results show that tension parameter is increased as the gap ratio is increased. It is found that tension parameter is reduced as the inclined angle is increased in the case of asymmetric deployment. The numerical model is applied to the specific problem for the trash curtain (200m) deployed at the Tancheon on the Han river. The maximum inflow velocity that anchor system can endure is 2m/sec.

  • There is a looper for the safety threading between stands in finishing mill. In this looper system, it is 2 inputs 2 outputs MIMO )Multi Input Multi Output) system, which has two inputs that are the angle of looper and the tension of Strip and has two outputs that are the torque of looper motor and the speed of Mill Motor. In tension controller of looper, it calculates the range of tension variation into the compensation value of speed and outputs to the speed controller of Mill Motor, so that it controls the tension of strip between stands. In this study, using this tension controller of looper, we adjust the establishment value of ...

  • This report describes the effect of the blending of poly(trifluoropropylmethylvinylsiloxane) (PTFPMVS) with poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) on the surface properties such as water repellency using dynamic contact angle (DCA) measurement. We have investigated the surface molecular mobility of the PDMS/PTFPMVS blends via a DCA measurement and an adhesion tension relaxation. It could be shown that a flexible side-chain segment in PTFPMVS having higher surface energy, could be reoriented easily in water to decrease the interfacial tension of the polymer/water interface, which seems to play a major role at the decrease of the receding contact angle and the surface resistivity of PDMS/PTFPMVS blends.

  • This paper studies fracture initiation direction of two parallel non-coplanar cracks of equal length. Using the dislocation pile-up modelling, singular integral equations for two parallel cracks subjected to mixed-mode loading are derived and the crack-tip field including singular and non-singular terms is obtained. The kinking angle is determined by using the maximum hoop stress criterion, or the ${\sigma}_{\theta}$-criterion. Results are presented for simple uniaxial tension and biaxial loading. The biaxiality ratio has a noticeable influence on crack growth direction. For the case of biaxial tension, when neglecting the T-stress the crack branching angle is overestimated for small crack inclination angles relative to the largest applied principal stress direction, and underestimated for large crack inclination angles.

  • The distinguishing characteristic of the glow discharge is that chemical reaction induced by partially ionized gases are limited only to the substrate surface. Most studies have been done on the plasma etching and polymerization. The graft polymerization in vapour phase by cold plasma has been rarely investigated. In this study the system of tub3ar reaction chamber with capacitively coupled electrode of alternative current of 60 Hz was employed for the graft polymerization. The graft polymerization of Acylic Acid(AA) onto the poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET) was carried out by treatment of PET film and fabric by cold plasma (glow discharge of argon gas), followed by the supply of AA vapour. The graft yield was about 1 wt%. The surface property was determined by contact angle, the surface tension was evaluated by zisman’s plot and equation of surface tension mesurement. The results were as follows: 1. In order to obtain lower contact angle, it was effective to avoid the vicinity of electrodes for a setting position of substrate. 2. Contact angle affected on the monomer pressure and its duration of exposure to the acid vapour. 3. Polymer radical formation was influenced by the changes of the value of current density and plasma treatment time. 4. Total surface tension of plasma grafted PET film increased. With an increase in the carboxylic acid content, the dispersion force decreased, while, the polar force and hydrogen bonding force increased. 5. The contact angle decreased from $75^\circ$ to around $30^\circ$ by plasma grafting. There was no ageing effect on the contact angle after 4 months.

  • CFRP is the composite material manufactured by the hybrid resin on the basis of carbon fiber. As this material has the high specific strength and the light weight, it has been widely used at various fields. Particularly, the unidirectional carbon fiber can be applied with the layer angle. CFRP made with layer angle has the strength higher than with no layer angle. In this paper, the property of crack growth due to each layer angle was investigated on the crack propagation and fracture behavior of the CFRP compact tension specimen due to the change of layer angle. The value of maximum stress is shown to be decreased and the crack propagation is slowed down as the layer angle is increased. But the limit according to the layer angle is shown as the stress is increased again from the base point of the layer angle of $60^{\circ}$. This study result is thought to be utilized with the data which verify the probability of fatigue fracture when the defect inside the structure at using CFRP of mechanical structure happens.
