인장-전단하중을 받는 IB형 일점 Spot 용접이음재의 파괴역학적 피로강도 평가 (Fracture Mechanical Fatigue Strength Evaluation of IB-Type Spot Welded Lap Joint under Tension-Shear Load)

  • According as the member of the automobile body structure have been thinned their thickness and have become high strength, each part of the body structure has been put more severe stress condition. And, because fatigue strength of the spot welded lap joint is influenced by its geometrical and mechanical factors, welding condition and etc., there needs a quantitative and systematic evaluation method for them. In this study, by considering nugget edge of the spot weld part of the IB-type spot welded lap joint under tension-shear load to the ligament crack. fatigue strength of various IB-type spot welded lap joints was estimated with the stress intensity factor(S.I.F.) KIII which is fracture mechanical parameter. We could find that fatigue strength evaluation of the IB-type spot welded lap joints by KIII is more effective than the maximum principal stress ($\sigma$1max) at edge of the spot weld obtained from FEM analysis.

  • Recently, a new issue in designing spot welded structures such as automobile and train car bodies is to predict an economical fatigue design criterion. One of the most typical and traditional methods is to use a ΔP-N$\sub$f/ curve. However, since the fatigue data on the ΔP-N$\sub$f/ curve vary according to the welding conditions, materials, geometry of joint and fatigue loading conditions, it is necessary to perform the additional fatigue tests for determining a new fatigue design criterion of spot-welded lap joint having specific dimension and geometry. In this study, the stress distributions around spot welds of various spot welded lap joints such as in-plane bending type (IB type), tension shea. type (TS type) and cross tension type (CT type) were numerically analyzed. Using these results, the ΔP-N$\sub$f/ curves Previously obtained from the fatigue tests for each type were rearranged into the Δ$\sigma$-N$\sub$f/ relations with the maximum stresses at the nugget edge of the spot weld.

  • 강구조물의 대표적인 현장이음방식인 고장력볼트 마찰이음은 볼트 축력의 관리가 엄격하기 때문에 많은 노동력과 시간을 필요로 하며, 미끄러짐 하중을 기준으로 설계가 이루어져 볼트의 높은 전단강도를 유효하게 이용하지 못하고, 그 결과 소요 볼트수가 많아지는 단점이 있다. 따라서 고장력볼트 마찰이음의 단점을 보완하고, 지압이음의 장점을 살린 전단링을 사용한 새로운 이음방식을 개발하여 기존의 고장력볼트 마찰이음과 비교실험을 실시하고 해석적 연구를 실시하였다. 그 결과 전단링을 이용한 새로운 이음방식은 전단링의 높은 전단강도로 저항하기 때문에 기존의 마찰이음보다 이음부의 내력이 크게 향상되는 것을 실험적으로 확인할 수 있었다. 한편 전단이음의 응력집중을 최소화하면서 최대의 연결강도를 유도하기 위해서는 전단링의 깊이 등의 설계 변수에 대한 추가적인 연구가 필요할 것으로 판단된다.

  • The fatigue test under the constant amplitude repeated loading is performed to investigate the fatigue behavior of the Torque Shear type high tension bolted joint which is able to manage the axial force uniformly. From the test results, it's known that the reduction of the axial force of T/S bolt followed by the elasped time is similar to that of the high tension bolts. The difference of relaxation is not occurred according to the position of bolts, the size of the introduced axial force but the effect of the variation of temperature is large. In the reduction of the axial force followed by the cumulation of the fatigue load, the outer bolt is larger than the inner bolt. This result depends on the difference in the distribution of the non-slip zone. The variation of the surface roughness affects the slip and the reduction of the anal force.

  • Since stainless steel plates have good mechanical properties, weldability, appearance and resistance of corrosion, these are traditionally used for vehicles such as the bus and the train. And they are mainly fabricated by spot welding. But fatigue strength of their spot welded joint is considerably influenced by welding conditions as well as geometrical factors. Thus a reasonable and systematic criterion for long life design of spot welded body structure must be established. In this report, strain energy density was analyzed by using 3-dimensional finite element model about the IB-type spot welded lap joint under tension-shear load. Fatigue tests were conducted on them having various thickness, joint angle, lapped length and width. From their results, it was found that fatigue strength of the IB-type spot welded lap joints could be effectively and systematically rearranged by strain energy density at the edge of nugget.

  • 블록전단파괴는 인장부재의 한계상태에 해당하는 것으로 강구조물의 인장부재 또는 연결부 설계 시 주의를 요한다. 많은 연구 결과와 설계기준에서는 블록전단파괴에 대한 볼트 이음 방식의 영향을 고려하지 않고 있다. 본 연구에서는 볼트 이음 방식(지압이음과 마찰이음)이 블록전단파괴의 파괴모드와 파괴강도에 미치는 영향을 분석하고자 인장실험을 실시하였다. 실험결과의 분석으로부터 설계기준, 지압이음, 마찰이음에 따른 파괴모드의 차이를 제시하였으며 마찰이음에서 발생되는 마찰력으로 인한 블록전단파괴강도의 변화를 고찰하였다.

CT형 점용접 이음재의 피로설계에 관한 연구 (A Study on Fatigue Design of CT-Type Spot Welded Lap Joint)

  • Stress distribution and deformation on the CT-type(Cross Tension type) spot welded lap joint subjected to out of plane tensile load were investigated by finite element method. Using the maximum principal stresses at the nugget edge obtained by FEM analysis, evaluated the fatigue strength of the CT-type spot welded lap joints having various dimensions and materials. and also, the influence of the geometrical parameters of CT-type spot welded lap joints on stress distribution and fatigue strength must be evaluated. thus, in this paper, ${\Delta}P-N_f$ curve were obtained by fatigue tests. Using these results, ${\Delta}P-N_f$ curve were systematically rearranged in the $\Delta\sigma-N_f$ relation with the hot spot stresses at the CT-type spot welded lab joints. It was found that the proposed $\Delta\sigma-N_f$ relation could provide a more reasonable fatigue design criterion for the CT-type spot welded lap joints.

인장웨브재 형태에 따른 각형강관 갭K형 접합부의 거동 비교 (Comparison on the Behavior according to Shapes of Tension Web member in gap K-joints in Cold-formed Square Hollow Sections)

  • 본 논문의 목적은 트러스 인장웨브재의 형상이 정방형 각형강관인 기존 연구(강관웨브형)와 고장력 강봉을 인장웨브재로 사용하기 위해 연결플레이트를 가지는(강봉웨브형) 냉간성형 각형강관 갭 K형 접합부의 거동 비교를 통하여 고장력 강봉 사용의 적정성을 알아보기 위한 것이다. 주관폭두께비가 33.3으로 동일한 강관웨브형 실험체 4개와 강봉웨브형 실험체 8개의 최대내력, 파괴모드, 초기강성, 연성율 등을 비교하였다. 비교 결과, 접합부의 내력은 강관웨브형에서는 압축지관의 선행파괴로 결정되었으며, 강봉웨브형에서는 인장측의 선행파괴로 결정되었다. 무차원화 내력은 동일 폭비에서 강관웨브형이 높게 나타났으며, 폭비 증가에 따른 내력증가현상도 강관웨브형에서 뚜렷하게 나타나고, 강봉웨브형은 일정한 경향이 나타나지 않은 반면에 인장과 압축폭비로 나누어 살펴보면 인장폭비 증가에 따라서는 선형적인 증가현상이 나타남을 알았다. 파괴모드는 강관웨브형의 경우에는 압축지관의 미소 국부좌굴과 인장웨브와 주관 접합면의 소성파괴가 나타났고, 강봉웨브형의 경우는 주관플랜지면 소성변형 후 연결플레이트 용접부위의 파단이 나타났다. 따라서, 강봉웨브형에서 연결 플레이트를 갖는 갭K형 접합부의 경우에는 강관웨브형에 비해 주관의 폭두께비를 낮게 할 필요가 있으며, 폭비도 인장지관과 압축지관과의 관계를 고려하여 결정하여야 할 것으로 판단된다.

In this study, numerical stress analysis was performed by using 3-dimensional finite element model on IB-type spot-welded lap joint of 304 stainless steel sheet under tension-shear load. Fatigue tests were also conducted on them having various thickness, joint angle, lapped length, and width of the plate. From the results, it was found that fatigue strength of IB-type spot-welded lap joints was influenced by its geometrical factors, however, could be systematically rearranged by maximum principal stress ({TEX}$σ_{1max}${/TEX}) at the nugget edge of the spot-welding point.

An experimental and numerical investigation on fatigue of composite and metal aircraft structures

  • The static strength and fatigue crack resistance of the aircraft skin structures depend on the materials used and joint type. Most of the commercial aircraft's skin panel structures are made from aluminium alloy and carbon fibre reinforced epoxy. In this study, the fatigue resistance of four joint configurations (metal/metal, metal/composite, composite/composite and composite/metal) with riveted, adhesive bonded, and hybrid joining techniques are investigated with experiments and finite element analysis. The fatigue tests were tension-tension because of the typical nature of the loads on aircraft skin panels susceptible of experimenting fatigue. Experiment results suggest that the fatigue life of hybrid joints is superior to adhesive bonded joints, and these in turn much better than conventional riveted joints. Thanks to the fact that, for hybrid joints, the adhesive bond provides better load distribution and ensures load-carrying capacity in the event of premature adhesive failure while rivets induce compressive residual stresses in the joint. Results from FE tool ABAQUS analysis for adhesive bonded and hybrid joints agrees with the experiments. From the analysis, the energy release rate for adhesive bonded joints is higher than that of hybrid joints in both opening (mode I) and shear direction (mode II). Most joints show higher energy release rate in mode II. This indicates that the joints experience fatigue crack in the shear direction, which is responsible for crack opening.
