  • This study was conducted to examine the fatigue phenomenon of mechanical properites in denim fabrics for slacks during repeated shear and tensile deformation by analysing the change in the basic dynamic properties of fabrics on the basic of experiments to obtain the basic data necessary to measure their fatigue. In addition, this study was carried out by allowing these denim fabrics at market to go through the repeated deformation under such different loads as 500 gf/cm2 and 1000 gf/cm2 by using a simulated fatigue tester, by calculating both dynamic properties and hand value (HV) of these fabrics with KES-F system and then by obtaining the THV through these calculated properties. The results are as follows: 1 The fatigue phenomenon of dynamic properties was remarkably shown by the repeated shear and tensile deformation, while the increase of hysterical plastic substances was also remarkable in these shearing and bending properties. 2. The elasticity values of tensile, bending and compression properties, such as, B and G were reduced: whereas RT and RC values increased. It was shown, then, that those fabrics lost their elasticity and became flexible and soft with the increase of fatigue. 3. The fatigue phenomenon of hand value also showed that those fabrics became soft in relation with the change of all dynamic properties, and that their performance was also change to flexible hand value. 4. TRhe degree of fatigue was also shown by the loads given to the repeated deformation. It was shown that the fatigue was higher for the tensile load of 1000 gf/cm3 than did the standard load of 500 gf/cm3 It is necessary, therefore, to consider the load in accordance with their usage when examining the fatigue phenomenon with respect to the dynamic properties of clothing materials. 5. The loads were nearly not influenced by the change in the general hand value tended to show a little of increase with the increase of fatigue, Based on those results, it seems that the fatigue phenomonon is related to the loads given to the repeated deformation.

  • This study examined the effects of the number of Dakji layer (a layer, two layers), the time of Jumchichigi (20, 40 and 60 minutes) and the type of Choji method making Dakji (Oebal-teugi, Ssangbal-teugi) on five strength properties of Jumchi-Hanji. As a result, the number of Dakji layer and the time of Jumchichigi influenced the five strength properties (tensile, wet tensile, tearing, bursting, and folding strengths). Jumchi-Hanjis made with two layers of Dakijis had higher properties than Jumchi-Hanjis with a layer of Dakji in the strength properties. The more the time for Jumchichigi is spent, the more the five strength properties of Jumchi-Hanji increased. The type of Choji was related to only three strength properties. The tearing strength of Jumchi-Hanjis with one and two layers, and the wet tensile and the folding strengths of Jumchi-Hanjis with two layers depended on the type of Choji. The differences of Jumchi-Hanji and Dakji were also identified in the strength properties. All Jumchi-Hanjis had low tensile and wet tensile strengths when compared to Dakjis. However, Jumchi-Hanjis, made by sixty minute Jumchchigi, had generally higher tearing, bursting, and folding strengths than the Dakjis. In conclusion, the strength properties of Jumchi-Hanji could be improved by controlling the number of Dakji layers and the time of Jumchichigi.

  • In this study, a standardized test method to analyze tensile properties of multi-directional GFRP plate was proposed. Presently, tensile strength test of FRP composite reinforced with isotropic and orthotropic fiber is standardized according to ISO standard. Also, even though many studies were performed on test method to analyze the dynamic properties, the properties of tensile strength for multi-directional GFRP plate were not clearly identified. Currently, the domestic test method in accordance with ASTM, which is applicable to unidirectional FRP plate, gave tensile test results greater than actual properties. Thus, in this study, GFRP tensile test was conducted using the method found to be commonly applicable to all standards based on literature review of domestic and international references. Then, anchorage length experiments were performed using the proposed tension test method to evaluate validity of the method. Finally, optimal anchorage length was estimated from the numerical analysis to propose the standardized tensile strength method for GFRP multi-directional composite evaluation.

  • In order to study effects of Cu and Be on the microstructure and tensile properties of rapidly solidified Al-Mg alloys, Al-Mg-Cu-Be alloys have been rapidly solidified by inert gas atomization process. Microstructure of rapidly solidified Al-Mg-Cu-Be powders exhibited refinement and good dispersion of Be particles as increasing of solidification rate. Solidification rate of atomized powders was estimated to be about $5{\times}10^{3{\circ}}C/s$. Inert gas atomized Al-Mg-Cu-Be powders were hot-processed by vacuum hot pressing at $450^{\circ}C$ under 100 MPa and hot extruded with reduction ratio in area of 25: 1 at $450^{\circ}C$. The extruded Al-Mg-Cu-Be powders consisted of recrystallized fine Al grains and homogeneously dispersed fine Be particles, and exhibited improved tensile properties with increase in Cu content. $Al_2CuMg$ compounds precipitated in grain and grain boundaries of Al-Mg-Cu-Be alloys with aging heat treatment after solution treatment. Hardness and tensile properties were improved by increasing Cu content and Be addition. Compared with extruded Al-Mg-Cu powders, the extruded Al-Mg-Cu-Be powders exhibited finer recrystallized grains and improved tensile properties by dispersion hardening of Be and subgrain boundaries pinned by fine Be particles. After aging treatment, hardness and tensile properties were improved due to restricted precipitation by increasing of dislocation density around Be particles in matrix.

  • To address the limitation of the commonly used steam curing of reactive powder concrete (SC-RPC) in engineering, a preparation technology of normal curing reactive powder concrete (NC-RPC) is proposed. In this study, an experimental comparative research on the mechanical properties of NC-RPC and SC-RPC under uniaxial tension is conducted. Under the premise of giving full play to the ultra-high performance of RPC, the paper tries to explore whether normal curing can replace steam curing. The results show that various mechanical indexes of NC-RPC (e.g., tensile strength, ultimate tensile strain, elastic modulus and deformation performance) could basically reach the mechanical index values in steam curing at 28d age, some performance is even better at a longer age. So it affirms the feasibility of normal curing. In this paper, the influence of normal curing age on the tensile properties of RPC is discussed, and the relationship between each index and age is introduced in detail. Based on the experimental data, the tensile mechanism of RPC is analyzed theoretically, and two kinds of tensile constitutive models for RPC are proposed, one is curvilinear model, and another one is polygonal line model. The validity of the two models is further verified by the test results of others.

  • Structural integrity assessment is indispensable for preventing catastrophic failure of industrial structures/components/facilities. This diagnosis of operating components should be done periodically for safe maintenance and economical repair. However, conventional standard methods for mechanical properties have the problems of bulky specimen, destructive and complex procedure of specimen sampling. Especially, the mechanical properties at welded zone including weldment and heat affected zone could not be evaluated individually due to their size requirement problem. So, an advanced indentation technique has been developed as a potential method for non-destructive testing of in-field structures. This technique measures indentation load-depth curve during indentation and analyzes the mechanical properties related to deformation such as yield strength, tensile strength and work-hardening index. Also indentation technique can evaluate a residual stress based on the concept that indentation load-depth curves were shifted with the direction and the magnitude of residual stress applied to materials. In this study, we characterized the tensile properties and welding residual stress of various industrial facilities through the new techniques, and the results are introduced and discussed.

  • This study was made to Investigate the effect of tensile strength(kg/cm$^{2}$), opacity(%), porosity(cc/min) of the paper manufacturing with the freeness properties of NBKP and the calcium carbonate having the different physical and chemical properties. As the results, the opacity and porosity of the freeness of, NBKP, obtained good strength properties from the freeness 65$^{\circ}$SR and the tensile strength from the freeness 85$^{\circ}$SR. The strength properties of paper manufacturing loaded with calcium carbonate appears to be related to the effect of the freeness, and it was obtained the good results at opacity 83.8% in the freeness 85$^{\circ}$SR, tensile strength 3.8kg/m$^{2}$ porosity 87cc/min in the freeness 65$^{\circ}$SR. Addition of 50%, 55%, 60% CaCO$_{3}$ was found to increase slightly the strength properties of paper.

  • The studies of particulate reinforced composites have been conducted for many years. The nanocomposites to be studied vigorously in recent years are one of them. We fabricated and studied multi-walled carbon nanotube(MWNT)/epoxy composites which may be useful as matrix for continuous fiber-reinforced composites. We investigated tensile properties of MWNT/epoxy composites as a function of MWNT concentration, which were prepared by the fabrication method established in this study. Tensile stiffness and strength increased 19% at 0.5 wt% and 12% at 0.2 wt%, respectively. We observed the reaggregation phenomenon of MWNTS during curing, which should be controlled to obtain higher tensile properties.

  • The effect of carbides on the tensile properties in 0.5C-17Cr-0.5Ni martensitic stainless steel was studied. With the increase of austenitizing temperature, the volume fraction of residual carbide was decreased rapidly. In tempered specimens after quenching, the volume fraction of total carbide was decreased with the increase of austenitizing temperature. In tempered specimens after quenching, strength was decrease and elongation was increased with the increase of austenitizing temperature. Tensile strength was increase and elongation was decreased with the increase of volume fraction of residual and total carbides. With the increase of austenitizing temperature, the tensile properties of mod. 0.5C-17Cr-0.5Ni martensitic stainless was affected greatly by residual carbide than tempered carbide.

  • This study has been performed to investigate the effects of glass fiber characteristics on the mechanical properties of thermoplastic composite. The surface of glass fiber was coated with the silan e to enhance the bonding strength between fiber and matrix. A micro-droplet pull-off test was performed to investigate the influence of the silane concentration on the bonding strength. The maximum bonding strength was observed around 10.8% silane concentration. In order to examine the influence of the fiber length and fiber content on the properties of the composite, the composite materials involving tile fiber lengths of 5mm, 10mm, 15mm 20mm, and 25mm were tested. The composites used contain 20%, 30%, and 40% by weight of glass fibers. Tension and flexural tests were performed to investigate their mechanical properties of the composites. The tensile strength and tensile modulus of the composite increase with increasing the glass fiber content. The tensile modulus increases slightly with increasing the fiber length. The maximum tensile strength is observed around the fiber length of 15-20mm. The flexural modulus and strength also increase slightly with increasing the fiber length.
