The interaction between steel tube and concrete core is the key issue for understanding the behavior of concrete-filled steel tube columns (CFTs). This study investigates the force transfer by natural bond or by mechanical shear connectors and the interaction between the steel tube and the concrete core under three types of loading. Two and three-dimensional nonlinear finite element models are developed to study the force transfer between steel tube and concrete core. The nonlinear finite element program ABAQUS is used. Material and geometric nonlinearities of concrete and steel are considered in the analysis. The damage plasticity model provided by ABAQUS is used to simulate the concrete material behavior. Comparisons between the finite element analyses and own experimental results are made to verify the finite element models. A good agreement is observed between the numerical and experimental results. Parametric studies using the numerical models are performed to investigate the effects of diameterto-thickness ratio, uniaxial compressive strength of concrete, length of shear connectors, and the tensile strength of shear connectors.

In the civil engineering and architecture fields, welding for large sectional members, such as I section steel and H section steel, are usually performed. a flash welding system, by which large I section steel or H section steel can be welded for a short time, was newly developed. In order to know the basic characteristics of welded joints, the specimens were cut out from flash welded joints, and tensile and fatigue experiments were carried out. The joint efficiency of welded joints by flash welding is 100% for the specimens with reinforcements and 93% for without reinforcements. The fatigue strength of welded joints with reinforcement was about 50% of that of the base metal. Removing the reinforcement generated by flash welding, fatigue strength of flash welded joints became 75% of that of the base metal. In case of flash welded joints with reinforcements, after a couple of fatigue cracks had propagated, ductile fracture occurred at the toe. In flash welded joints without reinforcements, fracture occurred at the bond or at HAZ (Heat Affected Zone). In case of fracture at the bond, fracture was brittle, and in case at HAZ, fracture was ductile.
PURPOSE. Considering the importance of retention in the success and long-term clinical service of fixed partial dentures (FPDs) as well as the existing controversy regarding the effect of GLUMA desensitizer on the retention of full metal crowns cemented with RelyX U200 self-adhesive cement, this study aimed to assess the effect of GLUMA desensitizer on the retention of full metal crowns cemented using RelyX U200. MATERIALS AND METHODS. In this experimental study, 20 sound human premolars were prepared; a 0.5 mm chamfer finish line was prepared above the cementoenamel junction. The teeth were randomly assigned to two groups: a desensitizer group (n = 10, treated with GLUMA desensitizer) and a control (n = 10, no surface treatment). Full metal crowns were fabricated of base metal alloy and had a ring. All crowns were cemented with RelyX U200 and subjected to retention test by using a universal testing machine. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 20 and independent t-test. RESULTS. The mean tensile bond strength was significantly higher in the GLUMA desensitizer group ($230.63{\pm}63.8N$) compared to the control group ($164.45{\pm}39.3N$) ($P{\leq}.012$). CONCLUSION. GLUMA desensitizer increases the tensile bond strength of RelyX U200 self-adhesive cement to dentin.

Bond strength of luting cements to dentin is a critical consideration for success of complete cast crowns. This study was performed to evaluate the relationship between surface characteristics of teeth prepared for complete cast crowns and retention of cemented restorations. Eighty artificial crowns were cast for standardized complete crown tooth preparations accomplished with the use of a special device on recently extracted human teeth. Coarse diamond(#102R, Shofu) and superfine finishing diamond(#SF102R, Shofu) burs of similar shape were used. Crowns in each group were randomly subdivided into few subgroups of 10 for luting cements selected for this study: zinc phosphate cement (FLECK' S), polycarboxylate cement (Poly-F), rein-forced glass ionomer cement (Fuji PLUS). and adhesive resin cement (Panavia 21). Retention was evaluated by measuring the tensile load required to dislodge the artificial crown from tooth preparations with an Instron testing machine, and analysed by one-way ANOVA and Student's t-test. The obtained results were as follows ; 1. When tooth preparation was done with coarse diamond bur, retentive force was diminished in order of Panavia 21 Fuji PLUS, FLECK'S, and Poly-F. Retentive forces showed the significant difference between Fuji PLUS group and FLECK'S group(p<0.001). 2. When tooth preparation was done with superfine diamond bur, retentive force was diminished in order of Fuji PLUS, Panavia 21, FLECK'S, and Poly-F. Retentive forces showed the significant difference between Panavia 21 group and FLECK'S group(p<0.001). 3. Retentive force in coarse tooth surfaces was significantly higher than that in superfine tooth surface with all luting cements(p<0.001), and cement residues were almost retained with-in the cast crown in all groups.

Micron-sized Co-alloy T800 powder was coated on Inconel718 (IN718) using high velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) thermal spraying by the optimal coating process (OCP) determined from the best surface hardness of 16 coatings prepared by Taguchi program. The surface hardness improved 140-160 % from 399 Hv of IN718 to 560-630 Hv by the coating. Porosity of the coating was 1.0-2.7 %, strongly depending on spray parameters. Both friction coefficients (FC) and wear traces (WT) of the coating were smaller than those of IN718 substrate at both $25^{\circ}C$ and $538^{\circ}C$. FC and WT of IN718 and coating decreased with increasing the surface temperature. Tensile bond strength (TBS) and fracture location (FL) of Ti64/T800 were 8,770 psi and near middle of T800 coating respectively. TBS and FL of Ti64/NiCr/T800 were 8,740 psi and near middle of T800 coating respectively. This showed that cohesion of T800 coating was 8,740-8,770 psi, and adhesion of T800 on Ti64 and NiCr was stronger than the cohesion of T800.

This research explores the potential of methyl methacrylate(MMA) as a material for road repair applications. It specifically examines two MMA formulations, referred to as type A and type B, in relation to their performance on concrete substrates. The evaluation criteria included drying time, tensile bond strength, and resistance to alkali. The condition of the substrate surface was varied across three curing environments: constant temperature and humidity(R), immersion in water(W), and immersion in water with chloride ions(N). The findings indicate that type B MMA exhibits a quicker drying time and superior resistance to alkali compared to type A. While type A demonstrated greater tensile bond strength, it failed to maintain adhesion with the concrete base. Based on the parameters tested in this study, type B MMA emerges as the more favorable option for road repair contexts. Nonetheless, the study underscores the necessity for additional testing on asphalt substrates to fully assess the material's durability and applicability for long-term road maintenance.
Fiber reinforced polymers (FRP) materials are increasingly being used for strengthening and repair of steel structures. An issue that concerns engineers in steel members which are retrofitted with FRP is stress experienced due to temperature changes. The changing temperature affects the interface bond between the FRP and Steel. This research focused on the effects of cyclical thermal loadings on the interface properties of FRP bounded to steel members. Over fifty tests were conducted to investigate the thermal effects on bonding between FRP and steel, which were cycled from temperature of $-11^{\circ}C$ ($12^{\circ}F$) to $60^{\circ}C$ ($140^{\circ}F$) for 21-36 days. This investigation consisted of two test protocols, 1) the tensile test of epoxy resin, tack coat, FRP and FRP-steel plate, 2) tensile test of each FRP compound and FRP with steel after going through thermal cyclic loading. This investigation reveals an extensive reduction in the composite's strength.
In this study, dissimilar friction welding were produced using 15mm diameter solid bar in chrome molybedenum steel(SCM440) to carbon steel(S45C) to investigate their mechanical properties and the relationship between the weld parameters and the nondestructive coefficients, such as AE counts and ultrasonic attenuation coefficient. The main friction welding parameters were selected to endure good quality welds on the basis of visual examination, tensile tests, Vickers hardness surveys of the bond of area and heat affected zone. The specimens were tested as-welded and post weld heat treated(PWHT). The tensile strength of the friction welded steel bars was increased up to 100% of the S45C base metal under the condition of all heating time. The ductility of PWHT specimens is higher than as-welded.
This paper contains the experimental performance evaluation results of bond-type anchorage systems with the CFRP(carbon fiber reinforced polymer) tendon. The preliminary tests were performed to find the appropriate filling materials in the steel molds. A total of five materials including epoxy or cement mortar have been used as fillers in the steel molds. Results of the preliminary tests showed that specimen filled with non-shrinkage mortar showed maximum tensile strength. Based on the finding, the non-shrinkage mortar was selected as filler for anchoring CFRP tendons. Additional tests were performed as a parametric study to select proper size of steel molds such as external diameter, thickness, and length. The proper size of steel molds with non-shrinkage mortar was selected based on the test results, which gave stable tensile performance.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of chlorhexidine (CHX) on microtensile bond strength (${\mu}TBS$) of dentin bonding systems. Dentin collagenolytic and gelatinolytic activities can be suppressed by protease inhibitors, indicating that MMPs (Matrix metalloproteinases) inhibition could be beneficial in the preservation of hybrid layers. Chlorhexidine (CHX) is known as an inhibitor of MMPs activity in vitro. The experiment was proceeded as follows: At first, flat occlusal surfaces were prepared on mid-coronal dentin of extracted third molars. GI (Glass Ionomer) group was treated with dentin conditioner, and then, applied with 2 % CHX. Both SM (Scotchbond Multipurpose) and SB (Single Bond) group were applied with CHX after acid-etched with 37% phosphoric acid. TS (Clearfil Tri-S) group was applied with CHX, and then, with adhesives. Hybrid composite Z-250 and resin-modified glass ionomer Fuji-II LC was built up on experimental dentin surfaces. Half of them were subjected to 10,000 thermocycle, while the others were tested immediately. With the resulting data, statistically two-way ANOVA was performed to assess the ${\mu}TBS$ before and after thermo cycling and the effect of CHX. All statistical tests were carried out at the 95 % level of confidence. The failure mode of the testing samples was observed under a scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Within limited results, the results of this study were as follows; 1. In all experimental groups applied with 2 % chlorhexidine, the microtensile bond strength increased, and thermo cycling decreased the micro tensile bond strength (P > 0.05). 2. Compared to the thermocycling groups without chlorhexidine, those with both thermocycling and chlorhexidine showed higher microtensile bond strength, and there was significant difference especially in GI and TS groups. 3. SEM analysis of failure mode distribution revealed the adhesive failure at hybrid layer in most of the specimen. and the shift of the failure site from bottom to top of the hybrid layer with chlorhexidine groups. 2 % chlorhexidine application after acid-etching proved to preserve the durability of the hybrid layer and microtensile bond strength of dentin bonding systems.
