The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of method for construction of cast post and type of dental cement on the retention of cast post. The wax patterns or Duralay resin patterns were used for construction of cast post. The dental cements used in this study were zinc phosphate cement(Fleck's zinc cement, Mizzy INc., U.S.A.), glass ionomer cement(Fuji I, G-C Co., Japan), and resin cement(Panavia-EX, Kuraray Co., Japan) and the retention of cast post was measured with Instron Universal Test Machine(Instron Engineering Co., U.S.A.). The obtained results were as follows : 1. The tensile bond strength of cast posts made by Duralay resin patterns revealed 39.13(kg) with Panavia-EX, 46.40(kg) with phosphate cement, and 37.78(kg) with glass ionomer cement. 2. The tensile bond strength of cast posts made by wax patterns revealed 39.25(kg) with Panavia, EX, 44.12(kg) with phosphate cement, and 40.23(kg) with glass ionomer cement. 3. The tensile bond strength of cast posts made by Duralay resin patterns or wax patterns were not affected by the type of dental cements(P>0.05).

The tensile properties, acetic acid solubility and degree of swelling in distilled water of cellulose/chitosan and sericin/chitosan film blended by mixing chitosan acetic acid solution with cellulose solution or sericin solution were investigated and the effect of crosslinking agent on solubility and degree of swelling were also considered. From the experimental results, the model of intermolecular bond is proposed. Tensile modulus of 100% cellulose film is high but the tensile strength and elongation are low. The elongation of 100% chitosan film is high but tensile modulus and strength is low. But it is possible to make film having same or higher tensile strength and modulus compared to that of 100% cellulose film by mixing cellulose and chitosan or by mixing sericin and chitosan. Chitosan is solved in 5vol % acetic acid solution but cellulose and sericin are not solved. Degree of swelling of chitosan in distilled water is higher than that of cellulose and sericin. Lower than 40wt% chitosan content, the solubility of cellulose/chitosan film in 5vol % acetic acid solution shows lower expected value but higher in case of sericin/chitosan film.
PURPOSE. This study evaluated the effectiveness of various methods for removing provisional cement from implant abutments, and what effect these methods have on the retention of prosthesis during the definitive cementation. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Forty implant fixture analogues and abutments were embedded in resin blocks. Forty cast crowns were fabricated and divided into 4 groups each containing 10 implants. Group A was cemented directly with the definitive cement (Cem-Implant). The remainder were cemented with provisional cement (Temp-Bond NE), and classified according to the method for cleaning the abutments. Group B used a plastic curette and wet gauze, Group C used a rubber cup and pumice, and Group D used an airborne particle abrasion technique. The abutments were observed using a stereomicroscope after removing the provisional cement. The tensile bond strength was measured after the definitive cementation. Statistical analysis was performed using one-way analysis of variance test (${\alpha}$=.05). RESULTS. Group B clearly showed provisional cement remaining, whereas the other groups showed almost no cement. Groups A and B showed a relatively smooth surface. More roughness was observed in Group C, and apparent roughness was noted in Group D. The tensile bond strength tests revealed Group D to have significantly the highest tensile bond strength followed in order by Groups C, A and B. CONCLUSION. A plastic curette and wet gauze alone cannot effectively remove the residual provisional cement on the abutment. The definitive retention increased when the abutments were treated with rubber cup/pumice or airborne particle abraded to remove the provisional cement.
The purpose of this study was to examine the influences of camphoroquinone on the properties of five experimental composites. The contents of camphoroquinone were varied as 0.2%, 0.3%, 0.4%, 0.5%, and 0.6%, with silanized filler 75% and tertiary amine 0.2%. Five kinds of experimental composites were prepared, and diametral tensile strength, shear bond strength, depth of cure and yellowish discoloration were tested as a measurement. Specimen numbers of 10 were applied to all test items and experimental groups. Specimens for testing the diametral tensile strengths with internal diameter of 6mm in diameter and 3mm in height were filled with 5 experimental composites which were crushed with 1mm/min cross-head speed on Instron universal testing machine (Model No. 4467). Shear bond strength was measured on specimens attached to bovine teeth enamel etched with 37% phosphoric acid. Depth of cure was measured by the measurement of height of specimens which were removed the un-polymerized portion with acetone. Yellowness measurements were made by chromometer(Minolta Co. Japan) using L$^*$a$^*$b$^*$ values. ANOVA and Multiple range tests were used analyzed data with confidence level at 95%. The mean value of the shear bond strengths ranged from 31.03MPa to 39.49MPa. Following results were obtained ; 1. Diametral tensile strength was highest in experimental group 3, then was not affected by the contents of camphoroquinone ($r^2$=0.0422). 2. Composite resins containing 0.4% camphoroquinone showed the highest shear bond strength, but there was no statistical significance (p=0.3718). 3. Camphoroquinone reduces the depth of cure in the composite resins (p=0.0004, $r^2$=0.9483). 4. Camphoroquinone made the composites yellowish ($r^2$=0.9815). These results mean that increased content of camphoroquinone reduces the depth of cure, and that camphoroquinone make composites yellowish.
Compression splices are required for all compression members in almost all of the floors in high-rise buildings. Therefore, a clear understanding of the behavior of compression splices can provide a rational design of compression splices. Tests of compression splices with bearing only and bond only cases were conducted to investigate the component resistance characteristics of compression splices. Test results showed that the circumferential tensile stresses induced by bearing and bond overlapped at the end of the splice length deterred bond and bearing splices from developing target splicing strength when both normal bond and bearing splices were used. In particular, the bearing strength was more significantly reduced than the bond strength since the bearing relied on the limited area near the end of the splice length. However, the strength of the normal splice was always higher than the strength of the bond only or the bearing only case. Consequently, the study results showed that splice strength in compression cannot be improved by means of removing bond or bearing. In addition, the bond strength in bond only splices was nearly same as the bond strength in tension splices and the strength increase of compression splice is attributed to end bearing only characteristic.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of thermocycling on bond strength between metal and resin cement according to thermocycling, and to observe the bond failure modes with optical microscope(X30). For this purpose, Super-Bond C & B and Panavia 21 resin cement were used. Metal specimens were made of Vera-Bond and the surface of specimens were sandblasted with $50{\mu}m$ aluminum oxide. All experimental groups were stored in $37^{\circ}C$ distilled water for 72 hours, followed by thermocycling between $5^{\circ}C$ and $55^{\circ}C$ with 15 second dwell time. 500, 1000, 2000 cycles of thermocycling were executed and the tensile bond strength was measured by Instron Universal Testing Machine(Model 4201) The obtained results were as follows : 1. Super-Bond C & B and Panavia 21 did not show statistically significant difference accor-ding to thermocycling test(P>0.05). 2. Super-Bond C & B specimens exhibited statistically significant higher tensile bond stre-ngth than Panavia 21 for all experimental groups(P<0.05). 3. Super-Bond C & B exhibited mixed mode failure with partial adhesive and partial cohe-sive failure, and most of Panavia 21 exhibited cohesive failure and some mixed mode failure.
This paper presents an experimental study of bond-slip behavior of reinforced lightweight aggregate concrete (LC) and normal weight concrete (NC) with embedded steel bar. Tests were conducted on tension-pull specimens that had cross-sectional dimension with a reinforcing bar embedded in the center section. The experimental variables include concrete strength (20, 40, and 60 MPa) and coarse aggregate type (normal-weight aggregate and reservoir sludge lightweight aggregate). The test results show that as concrete compressive strength increased, the magnitudes of the slip of the LC specimens were greater than those of the NC specimens. Moreover, the bond strength and stiffness approaches zero at the loaded end, or close to the central anchored point of the specimen. In addition, the proposed bond stress-slip equation can effectively estimate the behavior of bond stress and steel bar slipping.

Carbon fiber sheet has been widely used for the strengthening of the concrete buildings structures due to its excellent physical properties such as high strength, lightness and high durability. Bond strength or behavior, on the other, hands, between carbon fiber sheet and concrete is very important in strengthening the concrete member using CFS. Also the bond failure mechanism between CFS and concrete should be fully verified and understood. This study is to investigate the bond strength of CFS to th concrete by the direct pull-out test and the tensile-shear test methods. From the tests, the average bond stress, $$\tau$_{y}$ and the effective bond length, $$\ell$_{u}$ are acquired.

Recently, carbon Fiber sheet (CFS) is frequently used for strengthening deteriorated concrete structures. To strengthening damaged structures, the property and characteristic of the bond between CFS and the concrete surface must be understood. The tensile test of single lap shear specimen was performed to study bond strength, bond stress distribution and stress transfer between CFS and concrete surface according to the bond length. Based on the test results, there were ultimate influence length (UIL) in which bond stress was distributed, and ultimate strain reduction ratio (USRR) by which strain was reduced linearly. Bond resisting force (BRF) was estimated by UIL and USRR, and which was compared with ultimate loads. According to the results of comparison, it was shown that ultimate bond strength could be estimated reasonablely by BRF.
The purpose of this study was to compare and estimate the physical properties of five root canal sealers classified Calciobiotic root canals sealer as calcium hydroxide based sealer, Apatite root sealer type II as calcium phosphate based sealer, AH-26 as resin based sealer, Canals and Pulpdent root canals sealer as zinc oxide eugenol based sealer. The author investigated dimensional change and flow rate of canal sealers, diametral tensile strength and shear bond strength of sealers to dentin to evaluate the physical properties on affect of complete obturation of root canal and performed the total 100 specimens of each 25 sealers under the condition of root temperature according to manufacturer's instructions. All specimens were stored at $37{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ in 100 % relative humidity. A microscope for measurement of micro distance is used for the dimensional change test and evacuation methods using vaccum were used for the flow rate test. The result differed by the storage time measured on the tests of diametral tensile strength and shear bond strength to dentin. The following results were obtained ; 1 On the test of dimensional change, Canals and Pulpdent expanded slightly, AH-26 and Apatite showed the severe shrinkage after 48 hours. 2. AH-26 and Apatite were the excellent with each 24.59mm, 31.19mm after 3 minutes in the aspect of flow property. 3. On the diametral tensile strength, Calciobiotic root canals sealer showed the highest strength with 27.13kg/$cm^2$ after 48 hours, Apatite root sealer type II showed highest strength with 84.57kg/$cm^2$ after 120 hours. 4. On the shear bond strength to dentin, AH-26 was most excellent with 55.73kgf/$cm^2$ after 24 hours and with 134.71kgf/$cm^2$ after 120 hours.
