The behaviors of the reinforced concrete membrane elements are expected by Navier's three principles of the mechanics of materials. The adopted cyclic stress-strain curves of concrete consist of seven different unloading and loading stages in the compressive zone and six other stages in the tensile zone. The curves took into account the softening of concrete that was influenced by the tensile strain in the perpendicular direction of cracks. The stress-strain relationships for steel bar embedded in concrete subjected to reversed cyclic forces considered the tension stiffening effect and Baushinger effect. The predicted results of the analysis based on Navier's principles were in good agreement with the observed shear stress-strain relationships as well as transverse and longitudinal strains.

Self-sensing and interfacial evaluation of Ni nanowire/polymer composites were investigated using electro-macromechanical technique, which can be used fur a feasible sensing measurement on tensile and compressive loading/consequent unloading, temperature, and humidity. Mechanical properties of Ni nanowire with different aspect ratio and adding contents in either epoxy or silicone composites were measured indirectly using electro-pullout test under uniform and non-uniform cyclic loadings. Comparing apparent modulus with the conventional mechanical tensile modulus of Ni nanowire/epoxy composites, the trends were consistent with each other. Ni nanowire/epoxy composites showed the sensing response on humidity and temperature. Self-sensing on applied tensile and compressive loading/unloading was also responded for Ni nanowire/silicone composites via electrical contact resistivity showing the opposite trend between tension and compression. It can be due to the different electrically-interconnecting mechanisms of dispersed Ni nanowires embedded in silicone matrix.
The mechanical properties of REBCO coated conductor (CC) wires under uniaxial tension are largely determined by the thick component layers in the architecture, namely, the substrate and the stabilizer or even the reinforcement layer. Depending on device applications of the CC tapes, it is necessary to reinforce thin metallic foils externally to one-side or both sides of the CC tapes. Due to the external reinforcement of brass foils, it was found that this could increase the reversible strain limit from the Cu-stabilized CC tapes. In this study, the effects of differently hardened brass foil laminate on the electromechanical property of CC tapes were investigated under uniaxial tension loading. The tensile strain dependence of the critical current ($I_c$) was measured at 77 K and self-field. Depending on whether the $I_c$ of CC tapes were measured during loading or after unloading, a reversible strain (or stress) limit could be determined, respectively. The both-sides of the Cu-stabilized CC tapes were laminated with brass foils with different hardness, namely 1/4H, 1H and EH. From the obtained results, it showed that the yield strength of the brass laminated CC tapes with EH brass foil laminate was comparable to the one of the Cu-stabilized CC tape due to its large yield strength even though its large volume fraction. It was found that the brass foil with different hardness was mainly sensitive on the stress dependence of $I_c$, but not on the strain sensitivity due to the residual strain induced in the laminated CC tapes during unloading.

Damage Profess of CFRP laminates under monotonic tensile test was characterized by the correlation between Acoustic Emission(AE) and Ultrasonic Test(UT). The amplitude distribution of AE signal from a specimens is an aid to the determination of the extent of the different fracture mechanism such as matrix crack, debonding, fiber pullout and fiber fracture as load is increased. In addtion, the characteristics of ultrasonic amplitude attenuation are useful lot analysis of the different type of fracture mechanism. Different orientation of carbon fiber reinforced plastic specimens were used to investigate the AE amplitude range and ultrasonic amplitude attenuation. Finally, loading-unloading tests were carried out to check Felicity effect. During the tests, ultrasonic amplitude attenuation was investigated at the same time and compared with AE parameters. The result showed that two parameters of both AE and UT could be effectively used for analysis of fracture mechanism in CFRP laminates.
The paper proposes analytical forms able to represent with very good approximation the constitutive law experimentally deducible by means of uniaxial cyclic compressive tests on material having softening post-peak behaviour in compression and negligible tensile strength. The envelope, unloading and reloading curves characterizing the proposed model adequately approach structural responses corresponding to different levels of nonlinearity and ductility, requiring a not very high number of parameters to be calibrated experimentally. The reliability of the model is shown by comparing the results that it is able to provide with the ones analytically deduced from two reference models (one for concrete, another for masonry) available in the literature, and with experimental results obtained by the authors in the framework of a research in progress.
Standard compression tests of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) cylinders are conducted to formulate compressive stress versus compressive strain relationship of SFRC. Axial pullout tests of SFRC specimens are also conducted to explore its tensile stress strain relationship. Cover concrete spalling and reinforcement buckling models developed originally for normal reinforced concrete are modified to extend their application to SFRC. Thus obtained monotonic material models of concrete and reinforcing bars in SFRC members are combined with unloading/reloading loops used in the cyclic models of concrete and reinforcing bars in normal reinforced concrete. The resulting path-dependent cyclic material models are then incorporated in a finite-element based fiber analysis program. The applicability of these models at member level is verified by simulating cyclic lateral loading tests of SFRC columns under constant axial compression. The analysis using the proposed SFRC models yield results that are much closer to the experimental results than the analytical results obtained using the normal reinforced concrete models are.
The effect of cyclic compressive stress on fracture responses of Al2O3 was investigated under uniaxial stress cycling. Experimental data were obtained for Al2O3 tension specimens under uniaxial tension-unloading and tension-compression cyclic loading conditions. To investigate the effect of compressive stress on the crack growth, theoretical results from the crack growth rate were compared with measured stress vs. failure relations. At low stress level in tension-compression cycling, residual tensile strains were also observed about failure time.

Strain localization is important phenomenon since it governs the total behavior or ultimate loads in various kinds of engineering problems. Establishment of an analysis method for strain localization phenomena is also of great concern for expansion of fracture mechanics of concrete. Inside zone of localization, a decrese in stress is accompanied by an increse in strain; outside the strain decreses. All deformation localization phenomenon cannot be predicted by both the classical stress-strain formulation and the linear elastic fracture mechanics. In this paper, a simple one dimensional model including localized deformation zone is studied under compressive and tensile loading. When the model is loaded. localization is assumed to occur uniformly in a finite region and material outside the localization zone is modelled as elastic unloading occurs. Size effects of effective elastic moduli under compression and tension in localization zone are examined.

Thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer (TPUe) fiber mats were successfully fabricated by electrospinning method. The TPUe fiber mats were subjected to a series of cycling tensile tests to determine the mechanical behavior. The electrospun TPUe fiber mats showed non-linear elastic and inelastic characteristics which may be due to slippage of crossed fiber (non-bonded or physical bonded structure) and breakage of the electro spun fibers at junctions (point-bonded or chemical bonding structure). The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images demonstrated that the point-bonded structures of fiber mats played an important role in the load-bearing component as determined in loading-unloading component tests, which can be considered to have a force of restitution.
At present, the ground anchor method is commonly applied to securing the slope stability in Korea. The ground anchor is reported to decrease in tensile load due to aging and environmental influences with time such as corrosion, relaxation, creep and so on. In Korea, the lift-off test is performed for the periodic inspection or cases when the symptoms of deterioration on anchors and the residual tensile load of the anchors is checked. However, the current lift-off test standard (MOLIT, 2010) is not fully specified in details. In this study, the factors affecting the lift-off test were investigated based on the previous research and foreign standards and lift-off tests were performed with consideration for the loading and unloading cycle, load increment method, and tensioning tendon method. Based on the results, this paper proposes improved testing and evaluation procedures of the lift-off test considering the workability and time limits in the field.
