A combination of Polycarbonate (PC) material and Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), fabricated using an injection molding machine, has been investigated to determine its advantages, as studied in Ref. 1). This paper aims to investigate the optimization of PMMA/PC blend for both tensile yield strength and impact strength. Furthermore, interaction effects of process conditions on mechanical properties including tensile yield strength and impact strength of PMMA/PC blend by injection molding process are interpreted in this study. Tensile and impact specimens are designed following ASTM, type V, and are fabricated by injection molding process. The processing conditions such as melt temperature, mold temperature, packing pressure, and cooling time are applied; each factor has three levels. As a result, in comparison with optimization of separated responses, mechanical properties of PMMA/PC are found to decrease when optimizing both tensile and impact strengths simultaneously. The melt temperature is found to be the most significant interaction parameter with the mold temperature and packing pressure. In addition, there is more interaction between the mold temperature and cooling time. This investigation provides a useful understanding of the control of injection molding processing of polymer blends in optical application.

Tensile and fracture toughness tests of the cold-rolled STS 304 steel plate for membrane material of LNG storage tank were performed at wide range of temperatures, 11 IK(boiling point of LNG), 153K , 193K and 293K(room temperature). Tensile strength significantly increases with a decrease in temperature, but the yield strength is relatively insensitive to temperature. Elongation at 193K abruptly decreases by 50% of that at 293K, and then decreases slightly in the temperature range of 193K to 111K. Strain hardening exponents at low temperatures are about four times as high as that at 293K. Elastic-plastic fracture toughness($J_c$) and tearing modulus($T_{mat}$) tend to decrease with a decrease in temperature. The $J_c$ values are inversely related to effective yield strength in the temperature range of 111K to 293K. These phenomena result from a significant increase in the amount of transformed martensite in low temperature regions.

Steel plates used for common structures are manufactured by rolling processes in general. The rolling direction traces generated during the processes have significant influences on mechanical properties and fatigue behavior of the plates. The objective of present study is to investigate those directional characteristics for the enhancement of steel structure safety. SS400 steel plates of 3 mm thickness are tested in this study, When the angles between the tensile loading direction and the rolling direction of the plates are increased, their yield strengths are increased and elongations are rather decreased. It is also shown that fatigue crack growth rates in the plates can be increased according to the changes of those mechanical characteristics. For the safety of the structures, therefore, it is critical to decrease the angles between the rolling direction and the tensile loading direction.
Some physical properties of Ni-Cr based alloy for porcelain veneering were compared after repeated casting without the addition of any new alloy. The specimen were cast in a centrifugal caster with an oxygen-propane torch at optimum temperature. The obtained results were as follows: 1. The yield strength and hardness of the second generation were no significant differences compared with first generation but the yield strength and hardness of the third generation slightly decrased. 2. The ultimate tensile strength and elongation appeared to decrease slightly in second, third generations. 3. The tensile fractured facets of the first generation specimen were normal in all specimen, but in the second generation there were six tensile specimen out of ten, in the third there were four tensile specimen out of ten.

Additive manufacturing technology, called as 3D printing, is one of fourth industrial revolution technologies that can drive innovation in the manufacturing process, and thus should be applied to nuclear industry for various purposes according to the manufacturing trend change in the future. In this paper, we performed tensile tests of 3D printed stainless steel 316L as-built specimens manufactured by two types of technology; DED (Directed Energy Deposition) and PBF (Powder Bed Fusion). Their mechanical properties (tensile strength, yield strength, elongation and reduction of area) were compared. As a result of comparison, the mechanical properties of the PBF specimens were slightly better than those of DED specimens. In the same additive type of specimens, the tensile and yield strength of specimens in the X and Y direction were higher than those in the Z direction, but the elongation and ROA were lower.
Flexural tests on full-scale H-shaped beams, built up from high-strength steels (HSB800 and HSA800) with a nominal tensile strength of 800 MPa, was carried out to study the effect of flange slenderness of high-strength steel on flexural strength and rotation capacity. The primary objective was to investigate the appropriateness of extrapolating current stability criteria (originally developed for ordinary steel) to high-strength steel. The performance of high-strength steel specimens was very satisfactory from the strength, but not from the rotation capacity, perspective. The inferior rotation capacity of high-strength steel beams was shown to be directly attributable to the absence of a distinct yield plateau and the high yield ratio of the material. Residual stress measurements reconfirmed that the magnitude of the residual stress is almost independent of the yield stress of the base metal.

Aluminum sheet application to automobile body panels has now become an important objective to meet the requirements of automobile weight reduction. As the Mg content in Al-Mg based alloys increased up to 7.19%, the strength and elongation increased. For instance. Al-7.19Mg alloy had a high strength of 305MPa and a high elongation of 35%. A study was also made to investigate the interrelation between grain size and tensile properties with varying the contents of Mg, Ti and Zr elements and annealing conditions. The yield stress decreased as the grain size increased, which increased the uniform elongation. The strain hardening exponents n increased as the Mg content increased, which depended on the increasing difficulties of the cross slip of dislocation.
These experimental studies are carried out to build a database for analyzing fuel performance in nuclear power plants. In particular, this study focuses on the mechanical and irradiation properties of three kinds of zirconium alloy (Alloy A, Alloy B and Alloy C) irradiated in the HANARO (High-flux Advanced Neutron Application Reactor), one of the leading multipurpose research reactors in the world. Yield strength and ultimate tensile strength were measured to determine the mechanical properties before and after irradiation, while irradiation growth was measured for the irradiation properties. The samples for irradiation testing are classified by texture. For the irradiation condition, all samples were wrapped into the capsule (07M-13N) and irradiated in the HANARO for about 100 days (E > 1.0 MeV, $1.1{\times}10^{21}\;n/cm^2$). These tests and results indicate that the mechanical properties of zirconium alloys are similar whether unirradiated or irradiated. Alloy B has shown the highest yield strength and tensile strength properties compared to other alloys in irradiated condition. Even though each of the zirconium alloys has a different alloying content, this content does not seem to affect the mechanical properties under an unirradiated condition and low fluence. And all the alloys have shown the tendency to increase in yield strength and ultimate tensile strength. Transverse specimens of each of the zirconium alloys have a slightly lower irradiation growth tendency than longitudinal specimens. However, for clear analysis of texture effects, further testing under higher irradiation conditions is needed.
We investigated the effect of multiple tempering on the microstructure and mechanical properties of AISI 4340 steel. The austenitized and quenched AISI 4340 steels were tempered at 550, 600, and 650℃ for 1, 2, and 4 h by single-tempering (ST). The multiple tempering was conducted for 4 h by double-tempering (DT, 2 h + 2 h), and quadruple-tempering (QT, 1 h + 1 h + 1 h + 1 h). As tempering temperature increases, yield strength and ultimate tensile strength decrease and elongation increases due to recovery and recrystallization of martensite and coarsening of carbides. At 550℃, as the number of tempering cycles increases, the yield strength and tensile strength decrease at the expense of fracture elongation. At 600 and 650℃, the yield strength and tensile strength increase with increasing the number of tempering cycles while fracture elongation maintains similar values. The multiple tempering at the same tempering time of 4 h improves the modulus of toughness at all tempering temperatures, which is presumed to be due to the change in carbide precipitation behavior by multiple tempering.
The effects of alloying element and grain refinement on the tensile properties of magnesium alloy poured into sand mold were investigated. The strength of magnesium alloy was greatly increased by the addition of aluminium and that was increased with the increased aluminum content added up to 8.10 wt% and decreased beyond that. Even though the strength of Mg-8.10 wt%Al alloy was rather decreased by the addition of zinc, that was increased with increased zinc content added up to 0.50 wt% and decreased with the increased one beyond that. The maximum tensile strength was obtained with 0.50 wt%Mn added. The strength and elongation were simultaneously increased with grain refinement and the optimum amount of strontium addition for this was 0.30 wt%. The optimum chemical composition was obtained and the yield strength, tensile strength and elongation of the alloy with this composition were 90.2, 176.3MPa and 4.43%, respectively.
