  • Power capacitor has been used to compensate for the low power factor of inductive load and to reduce harmonics generated by the power conversion device with reactor. Power quality is mainly referred to the voltage quality and it is very important for the stable operation of load. But if voltage rms is temporary changed, it acts on capacitor as an electrical stress. In this paper, we analyzed that capacitor can be given by voltage, current and capacity's variance under the sag and swell condition. If reactor is connected at capacitor, sag can be aside from the question. But it can act an amount of stress on capacitor in the swell region.

  • An improved power supply for APD(Avalanche Photo Diode) with a received optical power monitoring circuit allows the received optical power increase temporary without of the degradation of the electrical signal. For the cost reduction and simple fabrication, an improved power supply has been proposed that it was designed for driving a APD as a receiving device of a wireless optical transmission system. It was demonstrated that it was possible to improve a dynamic range by compensating the temperature coefficient of the APD up to 1.0 V/$^{\circ}C$ through the power supply. Also, for an efficient transmission at the receiver end, a simple structure of a single cylindrical micro-lens configuration was used in conjunction with the laser diode to partially compensate a laser beam ellipticity. For this purpose, an astigmatism introduced by the micro-lens is utilized for the additional compensation of the beam ellipticity at the receiver end. In this paper, it is demonstrated that an efficient beam shaping is realized by using the proposed configuration consisting of the single lens attached to the laser diode.

  • Various prosthetic heart valves have been developed and used clinically, but they have problems, such as thrombogenecity, hemoltsis, high cost and low durability. New types of trileaflet polymer heart valves have been developed in order to use them as inlet and outlet valves in a ventricular assist device. The aim of this study is to determine the hydrodynamic effectiveness of the newly designed trileaflet polymer valves and their feasibility for temporary use in the blood pumps. Trileaflet polymer valves are made of polyurethane, because of its good blood compatibility, high tonsil strength and good resistance to fatigue. An in vitro experimental investigation was perf'ormed in order to ev91ua1e hydrodynamic performance of the trileaflet polymer valves having different design and fabrication tech- niques. The St. Jude Medical valve (SJMV) and floating-type monoleaflet polymer valve (MLPV) were also tested The pressure drop across the valve, leakage volume, and the flow patterns mere investigated for valves. The result of comparative tests showed that the trileaflet polymer valves had a better hydrodynamic performance than the others. TPV which has two stable membrane shape showed the lowest back flow. The pressure hops of TPVs were lower than that of MLPV, but slightly higher than SJMV. The hydrodynamic performance of valves under the pulastile flow showed the similar results as steady flow. The velocity profiles and turbulent intensities were measured at the distal sites of valves using a hot-film anemometer. Central flow was maintained in trileaflet polymer valves, and the maximum turbulent intensities were lower in TPVs comparing to MLPV.

  • The concrete work of bridge decks is performed in a high place, which may reduce safety and productivity. In addition, the conventional method for deck forms require a great deal of manpower, and a form (sheathing) board is damaged when removed after curing. As a result, the concrete deck work of bridge construction becomes the cause of delayed construction and increased cost. To solve these problems, SMART form, a system form, is developed. SMART form is a temporary device for easier installation and removal, by mounting it to the lower flange of a bridge girder and using a mechanical behavior of the form system for deck concrete pouring. For stable installation and removal of the developed SMART form, geometric behaviors should be analyzed to prove its validity. Furthermore, the validity of geometric behaviors when the SMART form size is altered in response to the various arrangement of bridge girders should be proved. Thus, the study is intended to analyze the geometric validity of the form system for bridge deck concrete pouring. The structural stability of the form system for bridge deck concrete pouring can be secured, which will be applied in the field.

  • With recent advances in device fabrication technology, economical deployment of large scale sensor networks, a design of pervasive monitoring and control system has been made possible. In this paper, we present a new algorithm for one of the most likely applications for sensor networks; tracking moving targets. The proposed algorithm uses a cooperations between the sensor nodes which detect moving objects. Therefore, the proposed scheme is robust against prediction failures which may result in temporary loss of the target. Using simulations we show that tile proposed moving object tracking algorithm is capable of accurately tracking targets with random movement patterns.

  • Objective: To analyze the overall treatment effects in terms of the amount of uprighting with changes in the three-dimensional positions of the mandibular posterior teeth after applying the biocreative reverse curve (BRC) system. Methods: Thirty-four patients (mean age, 20.5 ± 8.56 years) were treated using the BRC system (mean period, 8.17 ± 2.19 months). Cone-beam computed tomography was performed before treatment and after treatment with the BRC system. The three-dimensional movement of each tooth was analyzed in the coordinate system at points on the crown and root apex. A paired t-test was used to analyze the treatment effects of the BRC system. Results: The application of the BRC system spanning from the first premolar to the second molar resulted not only in buccal and distal uprighting, but also in increased buccal and distal tipping of the teeth. The premolars and the first molar were extruded, and the second molar was intruded. Conclusions: When the BRC system is applied, simultaneous distal and buccal uprighting of the premolars and molars can be achieved bilaterally using a temporary skeletal anchorage device without unnecessary movement of the anterior teeth.

  • Controversies exist regarding the need for prophylactic extraction of mandibular third molars in patients who plan to undergo orthognathic surgery. An 18-year-old male patient was diagnosed with mandibular prognathism and maxillary retrognathism with mild facial asymmetry. He had a severely damaged mandibular first molar and a horizontally impacted third molar. After extraction of the first molar, the second molar was protracted into the first molar space, and the third molar erupted into the posterior line of occlusion. The orthognathic surgery involved clockwise rotation of the maxillomandibular complex as well as angle shaving and chin border trimming. Patients who are missing or have damaged mandibular molars should be monitored for eruption of third molars to replace the missing posterior tooth regardless of the timing of orthognathic surgery.

  • Recently, heat island and dry island phenomena occur frequently due to land surface development and excessive energy consumption in urban areas. As a result, the surface temperature of the building and the entire temperature of its surroundings are increased, and as a result, the durability of the building is rapidly deteriorated. In order to suppress these causes, a method of maintaining the temperature of road heating wires was implemented as a temporary measure, but this did not predict climate change. Therefore, this study is a method to measure the compressive strength, density, and thermal conductivity of lightweight concrete using waste glass foam beads. After fabricating a simple chamber, the temperature and humidity of the inside and outside were measured with an Arduino device in consideration of external factors. Therefore, if waste glass foam beads made through proper mixing are constructed in the urban center, the quality of the urban can be improved.
