Spatial-temporal distributions of the newly described mixotrophic dinoflagellate Gymnodinium smaydae in Korean coastal waters

  • Gymnodinium smaydae is a newly described mixotrophic dinoflagellate that feeds on only Heterocapsa spp. and Scrippsiella acuminata among 19 tested algal prey. It is one of the fastest growing dinoflagellates when feeding, but does not grow well without prey. To investigate its spatial-temporal distributions in Korean waters, we quantified its abundance in water samples that were seasonally collected from 28 stations along the Korean Peninsula from April 2015 to October 2018, using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reactions. This dinoflagellate had a wide distribution, as reflected by the detection of G. smaydae cells at 23 of the sampling stations. However, this distribution had a strong seasonality; it was detected at 21 stations in the summer and only one station in winter. The abundance of G. smaydae was significantly and positively correlated with chlorophyll a concentration as well as with water temperature. However, there were no significant correlations between the abundance of G. smaydae and salinity, concentrations of nutrients, or dissolved oxygen concentration. During the study period, G. smaydae was present when water temperatures were 7.6-28.0℃, salinities were 9.6-34.1, concentrations of NO3 were not detectable-106.0 μM, and concentrations of PO4 were not detectable-3.4 μM. The highest abundance of G. smaydae was 18.5 cells mL-1 in the coastal waters of Jinhae in July 2017 when the chlorophyll a concentration was 127 mg m-3 and water temperature was 23.8℃. Therefore, the spatial-temporal distribution of G. smaydae in Korean coastal waters may be affected by chlorophyll a concentration and water temperature.

  • Spatio-temporal distribution of dinoflagellate cysts was monthly investigated at 6 stations in Gamak Bay, the southern Korea from April 2000 to April 2001. A total of 37 species of dinoflagellate cysts belonging to 22 genera were identified. The temporal changes of species number fluctuated with an annual mean of 8 species, 1 species at Stn. 6 in July in the middle Gamak Bay and 17 species at Stn. 2 in June southern Gamak Bay, but 11 to 20 species occurred in the northwestern Gamak Bay all the year round. The major species were Brigantedinium cariacoense, Brigantedinium simpler, Brigantedinium spp., Protoperidinium americanum, Quinquecusphix concretum, Selenopemphix quanta, Scrippsiella trochoidea, Spiniferites bulloideus, Spiniferites spp., Stelladinium reidii, Votadinium carvum, and Polykrikos sp. of kofoidii. The dominant species of dinoflagellate cysts was not evident in the over-all study areas, but in the northwestern Gamak Bay Brigantedinium spp. and Protoperidinium americanum were dominant $(50.4-76.0\%)$ during the study periods. Abundance of dinoflagellate cysts on the surface sediment in the Gamak Bay ranged from 21 cysts/g dry at Stn. 6 in July to 4,322 cysts/g dry at Stn. 4 in August with an annual mean of 688 cysts/g dry. Especially, the highest value occurred in the northwestern Gamak Bay. Heterotrophic species was more abundant than autotrophic species on the surface sediment. In particular, the former occurred in $75-94\%$ in the northwestern Gamak Bay throughout the year. The northwestern area was very different from other area in species number, dominant species and abundance of dinoflagellate cysts. It is mainly due to water stagnation and eutrophication in the area. And the seasonal abundance of dinoflagellate cysts in Gamak Bay was inversly related to water temperature.

  • 국내산지사면의 토양수분 시공간적 분포상황을 파악하기 위한 토양수분 측정법을 개발하였다. 대상유역을 정밀 측량하여 수치고도모형을 구성한 다음 흐름분배 알고리즘을 적용하였고 역측량을 통한 내상 유역의 흐름분배 알고리즘의 유의성을 판단하였다. 이를 통한 공간적 변화의 대표성을 최대화하기 위한 장기 모니터링 시스템을 구축하고, 10월 19일부터 21일까지 연속적인 모니터링을 실시하져다. 토양수분의 정확한 측정을 위해 TDR(Time Domain Reflectometry)를 이용하였다. 측정은 설마천 유역의 범륜사 우측사면에서 수행되었다. 강우사상에 의한 시공간적 토양수분의 변화 자료를 획득하였고, 강우사상에 의한 토양수분의 변화를 확보할 수 있었다.

서울 대도시권 지하철 통행흐름의 요일 간 변이성 분석: 동적 시각화방법을 토대로 (Time-Space Variability Analysis for the Weekly Passenger Flow of the Seoul Subway System: Based on Dynamic Visualization Methods)

  • 본 연구는 동적 시각화 방법을 토대로 서울 대도시권 지하철 통행흐름의 요일 간 변동성을 분석한다. 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 수도권의 1주일치 교통카드 자료에서 요일별로 1분 간격으로 지하철 승객흐름을 추출한다. 지하철망상의 통행흐름의 시공간적 분포를 나타낼 수 있도록 동적 시각화 방법을 고안하여 지하철 승객의 시공간적 분포에 나타나는 요일 간 변동성을 직관적으로 분석한다. 그 결과로 주중과 주말 지하철 승객흐름의 시공간적 분포 패턴은 확연한 차이를 보인다. 주중과 주말에도 요일에 따라 다소 다른 양상을 보인다. 서울의 주요 중심업무지역들과 유흥지역들의 승객흐름에도 요일별 승객흐름 양상에 뚜렷한 차이가 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 이러한 분석결과는 도시계획과 교통계획의 토대가 될 뿐 만 아니라 도시 재해 재난이 발생할 경우 피해에 노출되는 인구규모를 파악하고 신속한 대피대책마련에 유용한 정보를 제공할 수 있다.

  • 한국 연근해역의 중규모 해양 환경변동이 Cochlodinium polykrikoides 적조의 시공간 분포 변동과 밀접한 관련성이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 매년 하계 한국 연안역에서 적조가 최초로 발생한 전남 고흥 나로도 연안의 해양환경 상태는 최근 7년(1995~2001) 동안 열염전선대에 위치하였다. 대규모 적조발생은 7년 동안 매 홀수해(1995, 1997, 1999, 2001)에 나타났는데 동중국해 북부해역에서 표면 수온 및 염분의 큰 변동 또한 격년 주기로 나타났다. 저온 고염(홀수해), 고온 저염(짝수해)의 중규모적 해황 변동에 따라 적조의 공간분포 규모가 크게 변동되는 것으로 추정되었다. 한편, 동해연안으로 유입 확산되는 C. polykrikoides 적조의 분포와 이동상황은 동해남부 연안에서 발생하는 냉수대의 시공간 변동 규모에 따라 다르게 나타났다.

충청지역 극한강우지수의 시공간적 경향과 변동성 분석 (Analysis of Spatial-temporal Variability and Trends of Extreme Precipitation Indices over Chungcheong Province, South Korea)

  • Extreme precipitation events have recently become a leading cause of disasters. Thus, investigating the variability and trends of extreme precipitation is crucial to mitigate the increasing impact of such events. Spatial distribution and temporal trends in annual precipitation and four extreme precipitation indices of duration (CWD), frequency (R10 mm), intensity (Rx1day), and percentile-based threshold (R95pTOT) were analyzed using the daily precipitation data of 10 observation stations in Chungcheong province during 1974-2020. The precipitation at all observation stations, except the Boryeong station, showed nonsignificant increasing trends at 95% confidence level (CL) and increasing magnitudes from the west to east regions. The high variability in mean annual precipitation was more pronounced around the northeast and northwest regions. Similarly, there were moderate to high patterns in extreme precipitation indices around the northeast region. However, the precipitation indices of duration and frequency consistently increased from the west to east regions, while those of intensity and percentile-based threshold increased from the south to east regions. Nonsignificant increasing trends dominated in CWD, R10 mm, and Rx1day at all stations, except for R10 mm at Boeun station and Rx1day at Cheongju and Jecheon stations, which showed a significantly increasing trend. The spatial distribution of trend magnitude shows that R10 mm increased from the west to east regions. Furthermore, variations in precipitation were very strongly correlated (99% CL) with R10 mm, Rx1day, and R95pTOT at all stations, except with wR10 mm at Cheongju station, which was strongly correlated with a 95% CL.

Unit Root Test for Temporally Aggregated Autoregressive Process

  • Unit root test for temporally aggregated first order autoregressive process is considered. The temporal aggregate of fist order autoregression is an autoregressive moving average of order (1,1) with moving average parameter being function of the autoregressive parameter. One-step Gauss-Newton estimators are proposed and are shown to have the same limiting distribution as the ordinary least squares estimator for unit root when complete observations are available. A Monte-Carlo simulation shows that the temporal aggregation have no effect on the size. The power of the suggested test are nearly the same as the powers of the test based on complete observations.

  • The adverse effect of harmful plankton on the marine ecosystem is a topic of deep concern. To investigate the role of such phytoplankton, a mathematical model containing distinct dynamical equations for toxic and non-toxic phytoplankton is analyzed. Stability analysis of the resulting three equation model is carried out. A continuous time variation in toxin liberation process is incorporated into the model and a stability analysis of the resulting delay model is performed. The distributed delay model is then extended to include the spatial distribution of plankton and the delay-diffusion model is analyzed with spatial and spatiotemporal kernels. Conditions for diffusion-driven instability in both the cases are derived and compared to explore the significance of these kernels. Numerical studies are performed to justify analytical findings.

시간 모멘트식을 이용한 상분할추적자의 해석 (Partitioning Tracer Analysis with Temporal Moments Equations)

  • Partitioning tracers have been used with non-partitioning, inert tracer such Br, for detection, estimation, and monitoring of remediation performance of the subsurface contaminated with nonaqueous phase liquids (NAPLs). Various partitioning tracers with different partition coefficients between aqueous and nonaqueous phase liquids can be used to determine the hydraulic conductivity, dispersivity, and residual mass of NAPLs in the subsurface soil matrices. Temporal moment-generating equations were used to analyze the field pilot-scale test results. The pilot-scale tests included conservative tracer tests and partitioning tracer tests. Analyses of nonaqueous phase liquid distribution and characteristics of groundwater bearing soil media were performed.

迎日 의 植物플랑크톤 分布 (The distribution of phytoplankton in Yeong-il Bay, Korea)

  • 영일만의 식물플랑크돈의 분포와 수괴의 수리적 특성과의 상호관계에 관한 연 구가 1983년 12월부터 1984년 7월에 걸쳐 이루어졌다. 식물플랑크톤 현존량의 시간 적 변화는 수괴의 수직적 안정도와 영양염의 공급을 수반한 담수의 유입과 밀접한 관계를 보였다. 우점종의 시간적 동태는 일반적인 천이양상과 일치하였고, 특히 Skeletonema costatum은 매 조사시기마다 우점종으로 나타났다. 식물플랑크톤의 색소량과 개체수는 세포의 크기변화에 따른 차이는 있어도 전반적으로 좋은 상관관 계를 보였다. 다변량분석에 따른 조사해역의 구분은 수괴의 수리적 특성과 식물플 랑크톤의 분포양상과의 상호연관성을 잘 반영하고 있다.
