  • Three-dimensionally ordered macroporous (3DOM) structures of the $LiCoO_2$ electrode materials for Li secondary batteries were fabricated by using the close-packed arrays of PMMA spheres served as templates. In order to successfully fabricate the cathode materials with highly ordered array form, the metal citrates were applied to new precursors. The precursor/template composites were prepared by the infiltration with metal citrate precursors into the voids of template. By removing the PMMA templates, then, the inverse opal structures with the uniform pores of narrow size distribution were resulted. It was confirmed that the 3DOM $LiCoO_2$ material is to take a single phase of rocksalt (R3m) structure. In addition, 3DOM $LiNiO_2$ and $LiMn_{2}O_4$ cathode materials were fabricated using an identical preparation procedure. Also, the morphology of the 3DOM cathode materials calcined at $500^{\circ}C\;to\;700^{\circ}C$ was observed by scanning electron microscope.

  • Fingerprints are increasingly used for user authentication in small devices such as mobile phones. Therefore, it is important for Fingerprint authentication systems in personal devices to protect the user's fingerprint information while performing efficiently with a lightweight matching algorithm. In this paper, we propose a new method to extract strong minutiae with unique numbers from fingerprint images. Strong minutiae are at all times obtained from fingerprint images, and can be useful for secure and rapid fingerprint authentication. The binary information of strong minutiae of a fingerprint can be transformed securely and can create cancelable fingerprint templates. Also the bit-strings of strong minutiae decrease computing time necessary for the matching procedure between two fingerprints due to the simplicity of bitwise operations. First, we enroll several fingerprints images of a finger. From these images we select a reference fingerprint and put a number on each minutia. Following this procedure, we search for mated-minutiae between the reference fingerprint and other fingerprints one by one. Finally we derive unique numbers of strong minutiae of the finger. In the experiment with the FVC2004 fingerprint database, we show that using the proposed method, strong minutiae can be extracted successfully.

  • In global apparel product development, flat is one of the most important key factor for technical design communication. Proportionally correct flats based on correct scaled human body figures are imperative to be successful in the fashion business. In this study the researchers were to develop body templates for flats for Korean women body types using data from 'Size Korea 2004 (5th)', which is a Korean government apparel sizing project to analyze women's body measurements (age range 7-49). We measured 13 height measurements, 6 width measurements, 8 circumference measurements, 6 length measurements, 3 angle measurements and 5 body measurements. A body figure (i.e., schema) for each group was created by Pattern Design Software (PAD) System 4.1. Muscle was added to the schema created by Adobe Illustrator to ensure a better visualization and convenience for industry uses for flats. Developed body figure template of representative type had the largest difference in height level compared to exiting figures. It had a bigger head, lower crotch level, and longer crotch depth and hip length than existing figures.

  • Collaborative and distributed engineering web services are emerging as a viable alternative to the traditional design and engineering process automation. Existing approaches have limitations in supporting long-running engineering transactions, automatic engineering process orchestration and choreography, synchronous and asynchronous conversation, and geometric abstraction for transmission and sharing. In this paper, we present a process-centric engineering web service methodology to overcome these limitations by utilizing BPEL-based (Business Process Execution Language) process templates and coordination broker-based conversation support. This paper discusses the synchronization of engineering web services which can be either peer-centric or process-centric to support long-running engineering transactions and conversation. The process orchestration and choreography broker works as a service dispatching and aggregation mediator for executing process templates, which enables the individual activity or the engineering process to dynamically select and invoke one of the alternative web services through the run-time process brokering. Further, the paper presents how to support collaboration over the running process using conversation policy.

  • Using satellite images, an optimal solution to water motion has been presented in this study. Since temperature patterns are suitable tracers in water motion, Sea Surface Temperature (SST) images of Caspian Sea taken by MODIS sensor on board Terra satellite have been used in this study. Two daily SST images with 24 hours time interval are used as input data. Computation of templates correspondence between pairs of images is crucial within motion algorithms using non-rigid body objects. Image matching methods have been applied to estimate water body motion within the two SST images. The least squares matching technique, as a flexible technique for most data matching problems, offers an optimal spatial solution for the motion estimation. The algorithm allows for simultaneous local radiometric correction and local geometrical image orientation estimation. Actually, the correspondence between the two image templates is modeled both geometrically and radiometrically. Geometric component of the model includes six geometric transformation parameters and radiometric component of the model includes two radiometric transformation parameters. Using the algorithm, the parameters are automatically corrected, optimized and assessed iteratively by the least squares algorithm. The method used in this study, has presented more efficient and robust solution compared to the traditional motion estimation schemes.

  • Biometric-based authentication can provide strong security guarantee about the identity of users. However, security of biometric data is particularly important as the compromise of the data will be permanent. To protect the biometric data, we need to store it in a non-invertible transformed version. Thus, even if the transformed version is compromised, the actual biometric data remains safe. In this paper, we propose an approach to protect finger-print templates by using the idea of the fuzzy vault. Fuzzy vault is a recently developed cryptographic construct to secure critical data with the fingerprint data in a way that only the authorized user can access the secret by providing the valid fingerprint. We modify the fuzzy vault to protect fingerprint templates and to perform fingerprint verification with the protected template at the same time. This is challenging because the fingerprint verification is performed in the domain of the protected form. Based on the experimental results, we confirm that the proposed approach can perform the fingerprint verification with the protected template.

  • The bimodal porous carbons were synthesized by using imprinting method with templates of SBA-15 particle and silica sphere and applied as supporting materials for the electro-catalyst of polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC). The silica spheres with diameter size of 100 nm and SBA-15 particle having 200 nm -250 nm diameter and 700 nm -900 nm length were synthesized in this work. The bimodal porous carbons (S100) were prepared by using the silica spheres and SBA-15 as templates and mesophase pitch as a carbon source. The PtRu nanoparticle of ca. 1.9 nm were supported on the bimodal porous carbon support and the resulting PtRu/S100 catalysts was tested by the cyclic voltammetry. The use of bimodal porous carbon showed in comparable electro-catalytic activities with commercial catalyst. Though unclear effects of bimodal porosity of supports could be obtained in the scope of this study, morphological advantage in electrical conductivity can be considered on the electro-catalytic activity.

  • ZnO is one of the most attractive transparent conductive oxide (TCO) films because of low toxicity, a wide band gap material and relatively low cost. However, the electrical conductivity of un-doped ZnO is too high to use it as TCO films in practical application. To improve electrical properties of undoped ZnO, transition metal (TM) doped ZnO films such as Al doped ZnO or Ti doped ZnO have been extensively studied. Here, we prepared Ti doped ZnO thin films by atomic layer deposition (ALD) for the application of TCO films. ALD was used to prepare Ti-doped ZnO thin films due to its inherent merits such as large area uniformity, precise composition control in multicomponent thin films, and digital thickness controllability. Also, we demonstrated that ALD method can be utilized for fabricating highly ordered freestanding nanostructures of Ti-doped ZnO thin films by combining with BCP templates, which can potentially used in the photovoltaic applications.
