  • Rotor temperature variation is a significant issue in the design of induction motor controls. In the literature, numerous studies have mentioned significant performance degradation due to rotor temperature variation unless it is taken into account. However, those studies have mainly focused on field-oriented control in terms of tracking performance. There was little research about the influence of rotor temperature variation on performance particularly in the case of optimal controls such as maximum torque per amp (MTPA) control strategy. This work investigates how to affect the performance of maximum torque per amp (MTPA) control strategy as rotor temperature varies in time. To this end, investigation was carried out in two ways to see whether the objective of MTPA control strategy is achieved regardless of rotor temperature variation. It is to produce a desired torque with the minimum possible stator current at the same time. Laboratory experiment shows that tracking performance and maximum torque per amp condition is significantly affected by rotor temperature variation as rotor temperature varies, thus ending up with performance degradation of MTPA control.

  • Viscosity, especially characteristic among various properties of visco-elastic fluids such as high polymer solutions, is affected mainly by temperature and concentration. Hence, it is important for fluid engineering to express, by some equations, how the fluid characteristics vary with the change of temperature and concentration and to analyze them to obtain consistent viscous characteristics. High polymer solutions, synthetic products of modern chemical industry, suggest many interesting investigations because they are typical visco-elastic materials. Experimentation was made to derive some useful fluid characteristic equations of SEPARAN-NP10 (polyacylamide) expressed by n (flow behavior index) and K' (consistency index) when it is given temperature and concentration variation. To measure viscosity, capillary viscometer was adopted and the range of experimentation is 0-2,000 P.P.M. in concentration and 15-55 .deg.C in temperature. The experimental results are summarized as follows: The flow behavior index n 1) has nearly constant results irrespective of temperature variation at same conentration and the results are shown in (Table. 4-4-3) 2) has following equation, regardless of temperature, for the variation of concentration. n=-1.0765*10$^{-4}$ P+0.9915 (P:P.P.M.) The consistency index K' 1) has different results for the variation of temperature at same concentration and the results are given in (Table.4-7-2) 2) has following equation for the variation of concentration at same temperature. log 10$^{4}$K' =6.4785*10$^{-4}$ P-1.0529 (P:P.P.M)

  • This paper is concerned with the thermo-mechanical behavior of steel sheet for an auto-body including temperature dependent strain rate sensitivity. In order to identify the temperature-dependent strain rate sensitivity of SPRC35R, SPRC45E and TRIP60, uniaxial tensile tests are performed with the variation of the strain rates from 0.001/sec to 200/sec and the variation of environmental temperatures from $-40^{\circ}C$ to $200^{\circ}C$. The thermo-mechanical response at the quasi-static state is obtained from the static tensile test and that at the intermediate strain rate is obtained from the high speed tensile test. Experimental results show that the variation of the flow stress and fracture elongation becomes sensitive to the temperature as the strain rate increases. It is observed that the dynamic strain aging occurs with TRIP60 at the temperature above $150^{\circ}C$. Results also indicate that the flow stress and tincture elongation of SPRC35R are more dependent on the changes of strain rates and temperature than those of SPRC45E and TRIP60.

  • Three numerical experiments are done using IAP(Institute of Atmospheric Physics) global spectral model(T42L9) to investigate the influence of the surface temperatures on the 7-day simulation. Particularly, the response of the subtropical High in summer to the variation of soil temperature and sea surface temperature(SST) was emphasized through a series of experiments. Experiment 1 uses the June climate data as the earth surface conditions. Experiment 2 is similar to Experiment 1 except for the soil surface temperature. Experiment 3 is the same as Experiment 1 except for the modified SST, which is much warmer than the June climate SST on the sea around the Korean peninsula. The main finding in 7-day simulation is that the response of the subtropical high in summer to the variation of the sell surface temperature was much more than that to the variation of the SST. It is implied that the proper treatment of sell surface temperature is more important than that of the SST for the better 7-day simulation of the subtropical high in summer.

  • For urban development, natural covering area such as urban green or river is more rapidly reducing than artificial surface covering area like concrete or asphalt, so thermal environment in a city is being drastically deteriorated. Recently, since people recognize the importance of parks or rivers in a city which play roles as an environmental buffer in it, many studies and policies consider how to improve the life quality of citizens and urban environment. This study aims to examine the status of thermal environment variation in the parks and rivers of the city which is the subject of this research and provide foundational data for urban environment plans through research on temperature variation rate and temperature controlling effect.

  • The minimum power supply voltage of a typical bandgap current reference (BGCR) is limited by operating temperature and input common mode range (ICMR) of a feedback amplifier. A new BGCR using a bandgap voltage generator (BGVG) is proposed to minimize the effect of temperature, supply voltage, and process variation. The BGVG is designed with proportional to absolute temperature (PTAT) characteristic, and a feedback amplifier is designed with weak-inversion transistors for low voltage operation. It is verified with a $0.18-{\mu}m$ CMOS process with five corners for MOS transistors and three corners for BJTs. The proposed circuit is superior to other reported current references under temperature variation from $-40^{\circ}C$ to $120^{\circ}C$ and power supply variation from 1.2 V to 1.8 V. The total power consumption is $126{\mu}W$ under the conditions that the power supply voltage is 1.2 V, the output current is $10{\mu}A$, and the operating temperature is $20^{\circ}C$.

  • The most sensitive part of the installed optical cable is the optical loss variation of the splicing point according to the environmental changes. This paper presents the details of the experimental results of the external environmental changes on optical loss, such as bending, temperature variation, temperature variation after water osmosis and variation. Through the bending test of optical fiber, rapid increase of optical loss was measured within the diameter of 30mm. The result of optical loss variation within the temperature range of $-30^{\circ}C{\sim}60^{\circ}C$ is less than 0.02dB. It was confirmed that the maximum optical loss increased up to 0.2dB in case of water osmosis within the temperature range of $-40^{\circ}C{\sim}80^{\circ}C$. There is small optical loss variation of 0.01dB under the 1mm vibration test. The experimental results of this paper can be used as the reference data for the design of the optical fiber cable splicing enclosure to protect the optical loss variation due to environmental changes.

  • The low temperature and temperature difference (variation) may cause to deteriorate the integrity of tunnel constructed in cold region. An insulation material was developed and applied to the tunnel lining surface to keep the temperature of tunnel lining constant in spite of temperature variation at outdoor. The lining surface where the insulation material applied showed the less sensitive to temperature variation than non-applied lining surface.

  • The chemical and biological reaction of the aquatic organism is closely related with temperature variation and water temperature is one of the most important factors that should be considered in establishing sustainable reservoir operation scheme to minimize adverse environmental impacts related with dam construction. This paper investigates temperature variation in the downstream of Yongdam Reservoir using sampled data collected from total 8 temperature monitoring stations placed along the main river and the major tributaries. Using KoRiv1, 1-dimensional dynamic water quality simulation model, temperature variation in the downstream of Yongdam Reservoir has been simulated. The simulated results were compared with sampled data collected from May 15 to August 1 2008 by applying two different temperature modeling schemes, equilibrium temperature and full heat budget method. From the result of statistical analysis, seasonal temperature variation has been simulated by applying the equilibrium temperature scheme for comparison of the difference between the reservoir operation and the natural conditions.
