  • Structural integrity of solid rocket depends on the residual reactions between constituents of its composition(post cure, migration etc.), the oxygen(or anti-oxydent) in the free volume and humidity (desiccant) under the perfect sealed condition. Mechanical Properties of composite solid propellant arising from those factors are very complex. Moreover the propulsion are faced with thermal loads from diurnal & seasonal cycle till firing. In this study, the fast evaluation method of long term mechanical properties is suggested based on Thermo-Rheological Simplicity from curing oven to cool-down stage in view point of thermal stabilization. For this subject, endurance tester having temperature control capability are devised. From the results from incremental load and strain, non-linear characteristics are discussed.

  • In this paper, we made the integrated intelligent air ventilation of the actuator module that can be remotely controlled based on IoT and sensors. we implemented a ventilation window system by configuring an algorithm design and a driving circuit to control the operation of the actuator to open and close the ventilation port based on a predetermined number of data that detects indoor gas/CO2/humidity temperature and outdoor fine dust related indoor/outdoor environment. It is difficult to store, manage, and analyze data due to the large number of sensors and conditions for the transmission data of indoor air circulation module. The remote monitoring and remote wireless control screens were constructed to automate the separation and operation conditions by extracting and managing the state. We apply MQTT to enhance big data transmission and construct the system using Rocket MQ to ensure safe transmission of operational big data against system errors.

  • An effective way of increasing the strength and fracture toughness of reactor pressure vessel steels is to change the material specification from that of Mn-Mo-Ni low alloy steel(SA508 Gr.3) to Ni-Mo-Cr low alloy steel(SA508 Gr.4N). In this study, we evaluate the effects of alloying elements on the microstructural characteristics of Ni-Mo-Cr low alloy steel. The changes in the stable phase of the SA508 Gr.4N low alloy steel with alloying elements were evaluated by means of a thermodynamic calculation conducted with the software ThermoCalc. The changes were then compared with the observed microstructural results. The calculation of Ni-Mo-Cr low alloy steels confirms that the ferrite formation temperature decreases as the Ni content increases because of the austenite stabilization effect. Consequently, in the microscopic observation, the lath martensitic structure becomes finer as the Ni content increases. However, Ni does not affect the carbide phases such as $M_{23}C_6 $ and $M_7C_3$. When the Cr content decreases, the carbide phases become unstable and carbide coarsening can be observed. With an increase in the Mo content, the $M_2C$ phase becomes stable instead of the $M_7C_3$ phase. This behavior is also observed in TEM. From the calculation results and the observation results of the microstructure, the thermodynamic calculation can be used to predict the precipitation behavior.

  • Polycarbosilane(PCS) is an important precursor for melt-spinning the silicon carbide(SiC) fibers and manufacturing ceramics. The PCS is a metal-organic polymer precursor capable of producing continuous SiC fibers having excellent performance such as high-temperature resistance and oxidation resistance. The SiC fibers are manufactured through melt-spinning, stabilization, and heat treatment processes using the PCS manufactured by synthesis, purification, and control of the molecular structure. In this paper, we analyzed the effect of purification of unreacted substances and low molecular weight through solvent treatment of PCS and the effect of heat treatment at various temperatures change the polymerization and network rearrangement of PCS. Especially, we investigated the complex viscosity and structural arrangement of PCS precursors according to solvent treatment and heat treatment through the rheological properties.

  • This study employed field measurements and biogeochemical analysis to examine the effects of seasonal conditions (e.g., temperature and precipitation) and human intervention (e.g., dam or weir construction) on the chemical composition of dissolved organic matter, flocculation kinetics of suspended particulate matter, and formation of the fluid mud layer on riverbeds. The results indicated that a water environment with a substantial amount of biopolymers offered favorable conditions for flocculation kinetics during an algal bloom period in summer; a thick fluid mud layer was found to be predominated with cohesive materials during this period. However, after high rainfall, a substantial influx of terrigenous humic substances led to enhanced stabilization of the particulate matter, thereby decreasing flocculation and deposition, and the reduced biopolymer composition served to weaken the erosion resistance of the fluid mud on the riverbed. Moreover, a high-turbulence condition disaggregated the flocs and the fluid mud layer and resuspended the suspended particulate matter in the water column. This study demonstrates the mutual relationship that exists between biogeochemistry, flocculation kinetics, and the formation of the fluid mud layer on the riverine area during different seasons and under varying hydrological conditions. These findings are expected to eventually help inform the more optimal management of water resources, which is an urgent task in the face of anthropogenic stressors and climate change.

  • As polymers became very important in our lives, their negative impact on general health and the environment raised a serious issue. Here, enhancing their life term is presented as a compromise solution between the need and harm. In the study, six PVC films, the plain and five filled with improvers, underwent radiation exposure for 300 hours at room temperature to investigate their photodegradation rates. The modified films were embedded with organotin(IV) complex derivatives (Ph3SnL, Ph2SnL2, Bu3SnL, Bu2SnL2, and Me2SnL2 (where L is levofloxacin)), and their effectiveness was evaluated. The PVC films were compared before and after exposure to various tests including UV-Vis spectroscopy, gel content analysis, theoretical calculations, and EDX microscopy. Findings indicated that the presence of organotin(IV) complex derivatives, particularly Ph3SnL, notably decreased UV light absorbance and the amount of gel content in PVC sheets in comparison to untreated PVC. Furthermore, EDX analysis showed that the PVC-Ph3SnL blend exposed to radiation exhibited the highest chlorine content, reaching 30 %. This blend demonstrated superior efficacy in stabilizing the polymeric materials.

  • Temperature phase anaerobic co-digestion process was conducted with the one to one mixture of food wastewater with livestock wastewater, and the presence and the dynamics of various pathogenic microorganisms was analyzed. The mixture contained various enteric and pathogenic bacteria, such as Escherichia coli. Enterobacteriaceae, Coliform bacteria. Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella, Shigella, Listeria, and Yeast. Anaerobic digestion has become stabilized around 21 days after the reaction started, showing about 80% to 90% of remarkable reduction rates of microorganisms until this period in acidogenic reactor (AR) and methanogenic reactor (MR), respect ively. After stabilization, the average reduction rate of organic matter was recorded as around 60% in MR. Most microorganisms in the effluent were not detected at around the last period of the reaction, except Listeria and S. aureus, which showed the growth even at the last day of the reaction.

  • The swelling behavior of ferritic/martensitic steels (FC92-B/-N, HT9, and Gr.92) was investigated following 3.5 MeV Fe++ ion irradiation. Tested alloys were helium-pre-implanted up to the peak contents of 120 and 240 appm with He/dpa ratio of 1 appm/dpa at room temperature and then exposed to self-ion beam to the peak damage conditions of 120 and 240 dpa at 475 ℃. Field-emission transmission electron microscopy was used to characterize the cavity evolution. FC92-B exhibited the highest resistance to swelling among the irradiated alloys. The final volumetric swelling of FC92-B reached 1.3 % at 70 dpa and 2.9 % at 140 dpa. On the other hand, HT9 exhibited the highest swelling, reaching 7.4 % at 140 dpa. Comparing the present swelling results at 140 dpa/140 appm He with swelling data at 280 dpa/280 appm He from our previous study, it was observed that Gr.92 and FC92-N swelled more at 140 dpa/140 appm He than at 280 dpa/280 appm He. This negative correlation between swelling and dose in Gr.92 and FC92-N is primarily attributed to the helium-associated swelling suppression at higher helium concentration of 280 appm. A bimodal cavity size distribution appeared only in Gr.92 and FC92-N at 280 dpa/280 appm. This result demonstrates that the excess amount of helium over 200 appm promoted early-stabilization of new-born cavities, resulting in preferentially enhanced cavity nucleation, while impeding the growth of nucleated cavities. An inhibition in cavity growth possibly led to an extended duration of nucleation-dominant stages, finally suppressing swelling in ion-irradiated Gr.92 and FC92-N alloys.

  • Nanoparticles have received significant attention because of their unusual characteristics including high surface area to volume ratios. Thiol ligand have been used as stabilizers of metal nanoparticles since Brust et al. They reported the preparation method of ligand capped metal nanoparticles by protecting the nanoparticles with a self-assembled monolayer of dodecanethiolate. In this method, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were used as sovents. This study was carried out to replace these VOCs with room temperature ionic liquids (RTILs). We used two type of ILs to prepare metal nanoparticles. One is a hydrophobic IL, [BMIM][[$PF_6$] (1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate) purchased from IL maker, C-Tri from Korea and the other one is a hydrophilic one, [BMIM][Cl] (1-Buthy-3-methylimdazolium chloride) sinthesized by us. In the case of preparing Ag and Au nanoparticles using [BMIM][Cl], we didn't use phase transition reagents and ethanol because it has hydrophilic property and preparing Au, Ag nanoparticles using [BMIM][[$PF_6$] the method is as same as Brust et al.'s except using [BMIM][[$PF_6$] instead of organic solvent because it has hydrophobic property. FT-IR and UV-vis, TEM, TGA analysis have been used in an attempt to determine the particle size and verify functional groups. The particle size obtained from TEM was very similar to those obtained by Brust et al. This is a clear example of ligand capped metal nanoparticles prepared using ionic liquids. And the experimental result demonstrated ionic liquids can act as a highly effective medium for the preparation and stabilization of gold and silver metal nanoparticles.

  • This paper focuses on the design of a 12-kW small-scale supercritical CO2 test loop. A theoretical study, stabilization, and optimization of carbon dioxide were carried out with the application of a solar heat source based on solar thermal data in Pohang. The thermodynamic cycle of the test facility is a Rankine cycle (transcritical cycle), which contains liquid, gas, and supercritical CO2. The system is designed to achieve 6.98% efficiency at a maximum pressure of 12 MPa and a maximum temperature of 70℃. In addition, the optimum turbine inlet temperature and pressure were calculated to increase the cycle efficiency, and the application of an internal heat exchanger (IHX) was simulated. It was found that the maximum efficiency increases to 18.75%. The simulation confirmed that the efficiency of the cycle is 6.7% in May and 6.26% in June.
