An Analysis of a Winter-time Temperature Change and an Extreme Cold Waves Frequency in Korea (우리나라의 겨울철 기온 변화 및 한파 발생빈도 분석)

  • To compare changes in winter temperature over South Korea, 30-year average climate data and climate data of recent 10 years (2014~2014) such as mean temperature, daily maximum temperature and daily minimum temperature were analyzed. Also, we set analysis extreme cold waves frequency related to winter such as freezing days, snow days, days with temperature of below -5, and days with temperature of below -10. This process enabled the comparative analysis of winter temperature changes and extreme cold waves frequency related to winter. This study estimated that winter temperature has gradually increased throughout the last five decades, however, the frequency of extreme weather, such as cold waves has also increased.

  • We investigated the temperature dependence of magnetization of Fe/Al multilayers fabricated by dc magnetron sputtering system. As the temperature increased from 5 K in a low magnetic field (100G) the magnetization of the samples increased and made a broad peak at some critical temperature. Further increase of temperature decresed the magnetization as an ardinary ferromagnetic curve. Part of samples show rapid increase of magnetization at low temperature. A model developed in this study suggests that the biquadratic coupling yields such a rapidly increasing behavior of magnetization at low temperature.

  • In this study, temperature sensors were adhered to transformer that is used in KHST(Korean High-Speed Train) to verify variation of temperature characteristics about transformer synthetically and efficiently. In the case that temperature of transformer exceeds reference temperature for running of KHST, overheating of transformer may cause a fatal accident of vehicle. Therefore, after on-line measurement system was constructed in vehicle, oil temperature and tank temperature were measured on real-time. Characteristics and main specifications of transformer in KHST were described in this paper. Also, measurement system for temperature measurement of transformer was explained in brief. Temperature data of transformer was acquired using measurement system, KHRI(Korea Railroad Research Institute) analyzed characteristic in contrast with comparing with temperature of transformer about month, running speed and running time.

  • Degree-days are practically used as a tool to estimate energy consumption for heating and cooling. Degree-days are calculated by summing differences of balance point temperature and outside temperature for the analyzed period. Determining balance point temperature is a key point in calculating accurate degree-days. However, ASHRAE standards are used for balance point temperature in Korea because balance point temperature considering climate conditions and building thermal performance is not proposed in Korea. This study proposes the process to generate balance point temperature for heating degree-days considering Korean climate and building conditions. Also, a new balance point temperature for three regions in Korea will be suggested in this study. Balance point temperature of Seoul is approximately $15.0^{\circ}C$, lower than the current standard of $18.3^{\circ}C$. Balance point temperature of Seoul considering climate conditions and building performance can be different from the ASHRAE suggested value ($18.3^{\circ}C$). Results revealed the current standard for balance point temperature should be changed considering climate and building conditions in Korea.

  • As ESS safety issues increase recently, there is a need to more precisely monitor the temperature of the ESS. In this paper, DTS technology for temperature monitoring of ESS batteries is introduced and the temperature measurement principle is explained. The temperature of the battery module is measured using the DTS system, and the thermal deviation between battery cells inside the battery module is analyzed. In order to analyze how thermal imbalance affects the charging and discharging performance of the battery, an accelerated degradation test was conducted. Cycle life characteristics analysis, battery surface temperature change, and AC impedance characteristics were conducted to analyze how the performance of battery cells differs according to temperature conditions.

Relationship between Sea Surface Temperature and Air Temperature Variation Depend on Time Scale at Coastal Stations in Korea (시간스케일에 따른 해양표면수온과 기온의 변동 및 상관연구)

  • The relationship between air temperature and sea surface temperature and studied using the daily air temperature and sea surface temperature data for 25 years (1970~1994) at 9 coastal stations in Korea. Seasonal variations of air temperature have larger amplitudes than those of sea surface temperature. The seasonal variations of air temperature leads those of sea surface temperature by 2 to 3 weeks. The anomalies of sea surface temperature and air temperature with time scales more than 1 month are more ghighly correlated than those of short term, with time scales less than 1 month. Accumulated monthly anomalies of sea surface temperature and air temperature for 6 months shwoed higher correlation than the anomailes of each month. The magnitudes of sea surface temperature and air temperature anomalies are related with the duration of anomalies. Their magnitudes are large when the durations of anomalies are long.

  • When the PV module is illuminated in a high temperature region, solar cells are also exposed to the high temperature external environment. The operating temperature of the solar cell inside the module is increased, which causes the power drops. Various efforts have been made to reduce the operating temperature and compensate the power of solar cells according to the outdoor temperature such as installing of a cooling system. Researches have been also reported to lower the operating temperature of solar cells by improving the heat dissipation properties of the backsheet. In this study, we conducted a test to measure the internal temperature of each module components and the external temperature when the light was irradiated according to the surrounding temperature. Backsheets with different thermal conductivities were compared in the test. Finally, in order to explain the temperature difference between the solar cell and the outside of the module, we proposed an evaluation method of the heat transfer characteristics of photovoltaic modules with different backsheet.

Water-Temperature Prediction of Streams Entering into Imha Reservoir using Multi-Regnssion Method (다중회귀분석을 이용한 임하호 유입하천의 수온예측)

  • The regression models for the water temperatures of Ban Byeon Stream and Yong Jeon stream were developed using multi-regression method. It was also investigated that the applicability of the stream temperature prediction to two-dimensional numerical simulation to predict the vertical water temperature in Imha Reservoir. Air temperature and dew point as independent variables were selected to be applicable to cases with the different variation of flow rates. The data division of water temperature using a cutoff flow rate of $20m^3/s$ was found to reduce the prediction error of the stream temperature. The mean absolute percent error of the numerical simulation results of the vertical water temperature in Imha Reservoir using the regression models was 11%, which was only 4.3% lager than the simulation result using the measured stream temperature. Therefore, the regression models of the stream temperatures using multi-regression method applied in this study could be applied to predict the vertical water temperature in Imha Reservoir with a good accuracy.

  • Korea is the geographic location during the summer, the temperature rising to $35^{\circ}C$ and winter temperature is $-15^{\circ}C$ to reduce the air temperature changes, such as relatively large compared to other countries. This increase or decrease of the harmful exhaust gas discharged from automobile substantially inconvenience a significant impact on the active side of the car engine temperature and exhaust gas reducing device receives a large impact on the atmospheric temperature is regulation to be different. However, domestic vehicle emissions test temperature of $20{\sim}30^{\circ}C$ is it does not reflect this situation the actual test temperature to accurately measure the exhaust gas volume of the vehicle is difficult. In this study, domestic automobile exhaust gas test conditions of a test temperature $20{\sim}30^{\circ}C$ various temperatures, including (35, 25, 0, -7, -15, $-25^{\circ}C$) under the two vehicles (2.0L MPI, 2.4 L GDI) as was discussed with respect to the exhaust gas characteristics of the vehicle according to the ambient temperature gas. As a result, domestic emissions test temperature of $25^{\circ}C$ than average conditions were temperature decreases greenhouse gas emissions and increase overall increased by up to 15 times higher.
