  • Dealuminated and alkali/alkaline-earth metal exchanged Y-type and ZSM-5 zeolites were prepared as catalytic materials. Comparing with the composition of starting material, the magnitude of Si/Al ratio was increased after dealumination and cation exchange process. The ratio of Si/Al on surface was appeared to be larger than that in bulk. The destruction of basic frame in catalysts observed was understood to be due to a detachment of aluminum, which results in reducing framework while increasing non-framework. This phenomenon becomes more serious with increasing time of steam treatment and even more significant for the cation exchanged catalysts. The desorption peaks of the NO-TPD profiles taken after dealumination and cation exchanged Y-type and ZSM-5 zeolites shifted to the low temperature region. It was also found that the longer the steam treatment time, the degree of shift toward low temperature region was increased. The catalytic activities are dependent on the nature of cation exchanged, the ratio of Si/Al and the ratio of framework/non-framework by a change in basic frame.

  • Divinycell, which functions as both insulation and a supporting structure, is generally applied in the NO96-type liquefied natural gas (LNG) insulation system. Polymer-material-based Divinycell, which has a high strength and low weight, has been widely used in the offshore, transportation, wind power generation, and civil engineering fields. In particular, this type of material receives attention as an insulation material because its thermal conductivity can be lowered depending on the ambient temperature. However, it is difficult to obtain research results for Divinycell, even though the component materials of the NO96-type LNG cargo containment system, such as 36% nickel steel (invar steel), plywood, perlite, and glass wool, have been extensively studied and reported. In the present study, temperature and strain-rate dependent compressive tests on Divinycell were performed. Both the quantitative experimental data and elastic recovery are discussed. Finally, the mechanical characteristics of Divinycell were compared to the results of polyurethane foam insulation material.

  • The evaporation heat transfer coefficient of $CO_2$ (R-744) in a horizontal tube was investigated experimentally. The experiments were conducted without oil in a closed refrigerant loop which was driven by a magnetic gear pump. The main components of the refrigerant loop are a receiver, a variable-speed pump, a mass flow meter, a pre-heater and evaporator (test section). The test section consists of a smooth horizontal stainless steel tube of 7.75 mm inner diameter. The experiments were conducted at mass flux of 200 to $500kg/m^2s$, saturation temperature of $-5^{\circ}C\;to\;5^{\circ}C$, and heat flux of 10 to $40kW/m^2$. The test results showed the evaporation heat transfer of $CO_2$ has greater effect on nucleate boiling than convective boiling. The evaporation heat transfer coefficient of $CO_2$ is highly dependent on the vapor quality, heat flux and saturation temperature. The evaporation heat transfer coefficient of $CO_2$ is very larger than that of R-22 and R-134a. In comparison with test results and existing correlations, the best fit of the present experimental data is obtained with the correlation of Jung et al. But the existing correlations failed to predict the evaporation heat transfer coefficient of $CO_2$. Therefore, it is necessary to develop reliable and accurate predictions determining the evaporation heat transfer coefficient of $CO_2$ in a horizontal tube.

  • This study was identified the survey period and emergence of main species of dragonfly species, an indicator species that can identify the characteristics of wetland ecosystem. I surveyed the species and population of dragonflies once every two weeks from May 2015 to October 2016(29 times). From January to March, November and December were excluded from the cluster classification because the dragonflies were not observed. In April and October, the species was emerged but it was not suitable because it could not represent the time of the seasons. When we divide by month, it was able to judge from April to June as spring. Except the May, there were some changes due to rainfall and temperature, and sometimes June was included in the summer season. June, July and August correspond to summer, and September and October fall in Autumn. In June and October, the change was expected due to the effects of temperature and so it was judged as a partial fit. Looking at the change of the species, Coenagrion johansson and Paracercion calamorum were increase at the spring, and then Crocothemis servilia mariannae, Paracercion calamorum, Anax nigrofasciatus, Lyriothemis pachygastra, Orthetrum melania were abruptly enlarge in summer. At last, Sympetrum kunckeli, Lestes temporaris tended to be higher in Autumn.

  • The performance and cost of electric vehicles (EVs) are much influenced by the performance and service life of the Li-ion battery system. In particular, the cell performance and reliability of Li-ion battery packs are highly dependent on their operating temperature. Therefore, a novel battery thermal management is crucial for Li-ion batteries owing to heat dissipation effects on their performance. Among various types of battery thermal management systems (BTMS'), the phase change material (PCM) based BTMS is considered to be a promising cooling system in terms of guaranteeing the performance and reliability of Li-ion batteries. This work is mainly concerned with the basic research on PCM based BTMS. In this paper, a basic experimental study on PCM based battery cooling system was performed. The main purpose of the present study is to present a comparison of two PCM-based cooling systems (n-Eicosane and n-Docosane) of the unit 18650 battery module. To this end, the simplified PCM-based Li-ion battery module with two 18650 batteries was designed and fabricated. The thermal behavior (such as temperature rise of the battery pack) with various discharge rates (c-rate) was mainly investigated and compared for two types of battery systems employing PCM-based cooling. It is considered that the results obtained from this study provide good fundamental data on screening the appropriate PCMs for future research on PCM based BTMS for EV applications.

  • Laver Pyropia sp. is the most exported seafood in Korea and is one of the most consumed edible seaweeds. The export of laver has been centered on seasoned laver products; of note, laver snack products coupled with rice papers or glutinous rice paste are becoming more popular in Western countries. These laver snacks are manufactured using a deep frying process. Therefore, the frying conditions affect the physicochemical and sensory characteristics of fried laver snacks. In this study, we optimized the deep-frying conditions for laver snacks with gelatinized rice dough using a response surface methodology. The frying temperature (X1, 190-220℃) and frying time (X2, 10-30 sec) were selected as independent variables; the dependent variables were the overall acceptance (Y1, points), hardness (Y2, N), and oil content (Y3, %). The optimal values of the frying temperature (X1) and time (X2) as per the overall acceptance (Y1) were 208℃ and 23.1 sec, respectively. The predicted overall acceptance (Y1=8.0 points), hardness (Y2=98.74N), and oil content (Y3=27.69%), were similar to the experimental values under the optimal conditions. Overall, the acceptance was inversely proportional to hardness; the decrease in hardness caused an increase in the crispiness of the laver snacks.

  • Conventional bake-hardenable(BH) steels should be annealed at higher temperatures because of the addition of Ti or/and Nb which forms carbides and raises recrystallization start temperature. In this study, the development of new BH steels without Ti or Nb addition has been reviewed. The new BH steels have nearly same mechanical properties as the conventional BH steels even though it is annealed at lower temperature. The steels also show smaller deviation of the mechanical properties than that of the conventional BH steels because of the conarol of solute carbon content during steel making processes. The deviation of mechanical properties in conventional BH steels is directly dependent on the deviation of solute carbon which is greatly influenced by the amount of the carbide formers in conventional BH steels. Less alloy addition in the newly developed BH steels gives economical benefits. By taking the advantage of sulfur and/or nitrogen which scarenge in Interstitial-Free or conventional BH steels, fine manganese sulfides or nano size copper sulfides were designed to precipitate, and result in refined ferrite grains. Aluminum nitrides used as a precipitation hardening element in the developed steels were also and resull in fine and well dispersed. As a result, the developed steels with less production cost and reduced deviation of mechanical properties are under commercial production. Note that the developed BH steels are registered as a brand name of MAFE(R) and/or MAF-E(R).

  • We analyzed the influence of post-annealing on Ga2O3/n-type 4H-SiC heterojunction diode. Gallium oxide (Ga2O3) thin films were deposited by radio frequency (RF) sputtering. Post-deposition annealing at 950℃ in an Oxygen atmosphere was performed. The material properties of Ga2O3 and the electrical properties of the diodes were investigated. Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), X-Ray Diffraction and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) images show a significant increase in the roughness and crystallinity of the O2-annealed films. After Oxygen annealing X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) shows that the atomic ratio of oxygen increases which is related to a decrease in oxygen vacancy within the Ga2O3 film. The O2-annealed diodes exhibited higher on-current and lower leakage current. Moreover, the ideality factor, barrier height, and thermal activation energy were derived from the current-voltage curve by increasing the temperature from 298 - 434K.
