The purposes of the present study are to investigate the characteristics of heat storage and emission of the PCM($CalCl_2{\cdot}6H_2O$) panel, and to analyze the distribution of indoor air temperature in a floor heating space with PCM panels for the heating system. Two identical unit test cells sized $1.8m^W{\times}1.8m^L{\times}1.8m^H$ were built and installed with specially designed aluminium Ondol-panels. It held 1.2kg of calcium chloride hexahydrate(CCH). It was found that PCM panels could reduce the indoor air temperature fluctuations and maintain the phase changing temperature for considerably long duration, $2{\sim}3$ times longer in heating hour over no-CCH one. When the elapsed time was 6 hours, the average temperature difference between PCM panel and Ondol panel was $7.7^{\circ}C$.
Water temperature data of National. Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI) during periods of 19m to 2002 were analyzed to investigate the effect of the water temperature on catches of anchovy and laver in the eastern part of the Southern Waters of Korea The annual catches of anchovy and laver increased gradually although they showed fluctuations each year. Our findings indicated tint the catches cf anchovy and laver were controlled by various oceanographic conditions, mainly water temperature. The appearance of cooler sea surface water, warmer water at 0 to 20 m depth, and bottom water of about $15^{\circ}C$ caused relatively lower catches.
Oceanographic features around Korean waters related to the global change were studied by analysis of the longterm variation of water temperature, dissolved oxygen, sea level of the surface layer with 1$^{\circ}C$ temperature, spatial position of the subpolar front in the East Sea/Japan Sea (the East sea hereafter) and the Wolf Sunspot Number. With the global warming, the temperature of Korean waters has been increased 0.5∼1.0$^{\circ}C$ for 33years (1968∼2000). In case of the dissolved oxygen in the East Sea has been decreased 0.46$m\ell$/$\ell$. Year to year vertical fluctuations of the monthly anomalies of the surface layer with 1$^{\circ}C$water in the East Sea have predominant periods with 15years as the longterm variation of Arctic climate, 12 and 18years as the El Nino-Southern Oscillation. Spatial position of the subpolar front in the East Sea moved to northern part of the sea from the southern part of the sea with the increasing sea surface temperature. The relationship between the number of Wolf Sunspot and the anomalies of sea surface temperature was very closer after the late of 1980s than those before the early of 1980s in Korean waters.

At quasi-perpendicular shocks in the high- (=Pgas/Pmag~100) intracluster medium (ICM), various microinstabilities occur by the temperature anisotropies and/or drift motions of plasma. In the downstream, the Alfvén ion cyclotron instability (AIC) due to the ion temperature anisotropy (Ti⊥>Ti║) is triggered by shock-reflected ions, the whistler instability (WI) is driven by the electron temperature anisotropy (Te⊥>Te║) as a consequence of the shock compression of magnetic fields, and the mirror instability is generated due to the ion and/or electron temperature anisotropy. At the shock foot, the modified two stream instability (MTSI) is possibly excited by the cross-field drift between ions and electrons. In the upstream, electron firehose instability (EFI) is driven by the electron temperature anisotropy or the relative drift between incoming and reflected electrons. These microinstabilities play important roles in the particle acceleration in ICM shocks, so understanding of the microinstabilities and the resultant plasma waves is essential. In this study, based on a linear stability analysis, the basic properties of the microinstabilities in ICM shocks and the ion/electron scale fluctuations are described. We then discuss the implication of our work on the electron pre-acceleration in ICM shocks.
This study aimed to develop appropriate temperature management practices and provide scientific evidence to support the development of sell-by-date guidance for eggs. Washed and unwashed eggs were subjected to storage under six different scenarios, and both types of eggs were stored at temperatures up to 35℃ to evaluate the sell-by-date. Despite temperature fluctuations or continuous storage at 30℃ for 5 days, subsequent storage at 10℃ resulted in significantly higher Haugh unit and yolk index on day 15. These results indicate that refrigerating eggs from retail sales until consumption is effective for egg quality management, despite the exposure of up to 35℃ during distribution. In terms of sell-by-date evaluation, washed eggs retained class B quality for an additional 37 days beyond the recommended sell-by-date at 15℃, which is above the regulated storage temperature. However, unwashed eggs maintained class B quality for approximately 20 days at 30℃-35℃, emphasizing the need for sell-by-date guidelines for unwashed eggs. This study is the first to provide appropriate egg-handling practices based on the actual distribution environment in Korea.
We have fabricated by metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) In$\_$0.13/Ga$\_$0.87/N/GaN multiple quantum well (MQW) with thickness as thin as 10 A and barriers also of th same width on (0001) sapphire substrate. We have investigated this thin MQW by steady-state and time-resolved photoluminescence(PL) in picosecond time scale in a wide temperature range from 10 to 290 K. In the PL at 10 K, we observed a broad peak at 3.134 eV which was attributed to the quantum well emission of InGaN. The full width at half maximum (FWHM) of this peak was 129 meV at 10 K and its broadening at low temperatures was considered to be due to compositional fluctuations and interfacial disorder in the alloy. The narrow width of the quantum well was mainly responsible for the broadening of the emission linewidth. We also observed an intense and sharp peak at 3.471 eV of GaN barrier. From the temperature dependent PL measurements, the activation energy of the InGaN quantum well emision peak was estimated to be 69 meV. The lifetime of the quantum well emission was found to be 720 ps at 10 K, which was explained in terms of the exciton localization arising from potential fluctuations.

Swimming crabs, Portunus trituberculatus(Miers) are commercially important off the coasts of Korea, Japan and China. Harvest of swimming crabs has been fluctuated along their distribution ranges. Fluctuations in the interannual harvest of swimming crabs may be correlated with the survival rate during the larval period. The survival rates, intermolt periods, and growth of larval swimming crabs were investigated in the laboratory. Larval swimming crabs are released and undergo development from April to August off the western coast of Korea in the Yellow Sea. Sea surface temperatures off the western coast of Korea during the larval season were used for the laboratory experiments, and ranged from 22 to 26${^{\circ}C}$. Larvae were individually cultured at four different temperatures, 22${^{\circ}C}$, 24${^{\circ}C}$, 26${^{\circ}C}$, and 28${^{\circ}C}$. Zoea molted to megalopa at all temperatures and developed to the first crab stage at 24${^{\circ}C}$, 26${^{\circ}C}$, and 28${^{\circ}C}$. Survival rates from zoea I to the first crab stage increased with increasing temperatures. Intermolt period and the growth rate of the mean carapace length were inversely correlated with temperature. Our research helps understand the changes in survival rate and growth of larval swimming crabs resulting from changing oceanic temperatures. Further, our study suggests that the fluctuations in fishery harvest of swimming crabs off the coast of Korea may be related to changes in larval survival affected by changing ocean conditions.
The year-to-year fluctuations of seasonal variation of sea surface temperatures (SST) in the Korea Strait are studied based on monthly SST data for more than 50 years at Mitsushima ana Okinoshima in the strait. The frequency distribution of SST has two peaks at temperatures below and above the multi-year average, but that of SST anomalies has only one peak at the zero anomaly. More than $95\%$ of the anomalies are in the range of ${\pm}2^{\circ}C$. The harmonic constansts of seasonal SST variation vary from year to year. The standard deviations of annual means, annual amplitudes, ana semi-annual amplitudes are less than $1^{\circ}C$, and those of the annual ana semi-annual phases are about $5^{\circ}$ and less than $50^{\circ}$, respectively. The SST in the Korea Strait have a tendency to decrease their amplitudes as the annual means increase. Physical mechanisms responsible for the analyzed results are discussed in this paper.

Surface water temperature of a bay (from the south to the north) increases in spring and summer, but decreases in autumn and winter. Due to shallow water depth, freshwater outflow, and weak current, the water temperature in the central to northern part of the bay is greatly affected by the land coast and air temperature, with large fluctuations. Water temperature variations are large in the north-east coast of the bay, but small in the south-west coast. The difference between water temperature and air temperature is greater in winter and in the south-central part of the bay than that in the north to the eastern coast of the bay where sea dykes are located. As the bay goes from south to north, the range of water temperature fluctuation and the phase show increases. When fresh water is released from the sea dike, the surrounding water temperature decreases and then rises, or rises and then falls. The first mode of empirical orthogonal function (EOF) represents seasonal variation of water temperature. The second mode represents the variability of water temperature gradient in east-west and north-south directions of the bay. In the first mode, the maximum and the minimum are shown in autumn and summer, respectively, consistent with seasonal distribution of surface water temperature variance. In the second mode, phases of the coast of Seosan~Boryeong and the east coast of Anmyeon Island are opposite to each other, bordering the center of the deep bay. Periodic fluctuation of the first mode time coefficient dominates in the one-day and half-day cycle. Its daily fluctuation pattern is similar to air temperature variation. Sea conditions and topographical characteristics excluding air temperature are factors contributing to the variation of the second mode time coefficient.

This study investigates the temperature sensitivities of fiber Bragg grating (FBG) across a broad temperature spectrum ranging from -196 ℃ to 900 ℃. We developed the FBG temperature measurement system using a high-temperature tubular furnace and liquid nitrogen to supply consistent high and low temperatures, respectively. Our research showed that the FBG temperature sensitivity changed from 1.55 to 10.61 pm/℃ in the range from -196 ℃ to 25 ℃ when the FBG was packaged with a quartz capillary. In the 25-900 ℃ range, the sensitivity varied from 11.26 to 16.62 pm/℃. Contrary to traditional knowledge, the FBG temperature sensitivity was not constant. This inconsistency primarily stems from the nonlinear shifts in the thermo-optic coefficient and thermal expansion coefficient across this temperature spectrum. The theoretically predicted and experimentally determined temperature sensitivities of FBGs encased in quartz capillary were remarkably consistent. The greatest discrepancy, observed at 25 ℃, was approximately 1.3 pm/℃. Furthermore, it was observed that at 900 ℃, the FBG was rapidly thermally erased, exhibiting variable reflected intensity over time. This study focuses on the advancement of precise temperature measurement techniques in environments that experience wide temperature fluctuations, and has considerable potential application value.
