Temperature distribution on flank face in orthogonal turning with cutting tool of high speed steel is studied by using a finite element method and experiments. Experiments are carried out to verify the validity of the temperature measurement by using a thermoelectric couple junction imbedded in a cutting tool of high speed steel. Good agreement is obtained between the analytical results and the experimental ones for the temperature distributions on flank face of cutting tool with high speed steel. The analytical results show that the temperature on the top flank face of a tool is higher because of the difference of the friction velocity on each face of the tool.

A TDM-multiplexed fiber optic pressure/temperature sensor system utilizing fiber optic Fabry-Perot interferometers as sensing devices was developed and applied to measure water level variations and temperature variations. The maximum measurement speed of the system without saving measurement data is 4500 times per second and the response time of the sensors is thought to be ~ms. The difference between the theoretical value and the measured value for the scale factor of water level sensor and temperature sensor was +13.7%, -18% respectively. The nonlinearity of the sensors after calibration was less than 1%. The sensor system was applied to verify the capability of measuring the temperature variations and water level variations at a high speed.

Measuring an exact amount of remaining cryogenic liquid propellant under microgravity condition is one of the important issues of rocket vehicle. A Pressure-Volume-Temperature (PVT) gauging method is attractive due to its minimal additional hardware and simple gauging process. In this paper, PVT gauging method using liquid nitrogen is investigated under microgravity condition with parabolic flight. A 9.2 litre metal cryogenic liquid storage tank containing approximately 30% of liquid nitrogen is pressurized by ambient temperature helium gas. During microgravity condition, the inside of the liquid tank becomes near-isothermal condition within 1 K difference indicated by 6 silicon diode sensors vertically distributed in the middle of the liquid tank. Helium injection with higher mass flow rate after 10 seconds of the waiting time results in successful measurements of helium partial pressure in the tank. Average liquid volume measurement error is within 11% of the whole liquid tank volume and standard deviation of errors is 11.9. As a result, the applicability of PVT gauging method to liquid propellant stored in space is proven with good measurement accuracy.
Judging from the studies carried out by Dr. Jo, Yong Jin on the Koreans' faces, Koreans divided into two constitutions according to their facial features and heritages. The one population is the Northern lineage whose ancestor migrated from Siberia in ice age. In order to survive in cold climate, they have developed a high level of metabolic heat production. Cold adaptation for preventing heat loss results in a reduction in the facial surface area with small eyes, nose and lips. The other population is the Southern lineage who is the descent of native in Korean peninsular. They have big eyes with double edged eyelids, broad nose and thick lips. It is generally believed that both genetic and environmetal factors influence eating behaviors. Although we can't recognized their heritage that may contribute to the metabolism and eating behavior, we commonly recognize their physiological heritage acceding to their facial features. In order to investigate the relationship among the size and shape of facial feature, the eating behavior, anthropometric measurement in female college students, the eating behaviors was measured during an instant-noodle lunch eaten in a laboratory setting at the ambient temperature of $23^{\circ}C$. The anterior surface area of left eye and length of right eye were positively correlated with the difference between the peak postprandial and the meal-start core temperature. The surface area of lower lip also negatively correlated with the meal-start core temperature and meal duration. In addition, the total lips' area was positively correlated with the difference between the peak postprandial and the meal-start core temperature and negatively correlated with the meal duration. However anthropometric measurements were not related with the size of facial features.
A pressure sensor in pulse measurement system is a core component for precisely measuring the pulse waveform of radial artery. A pulse sensor signal that measures the pulse wave in contact with the skin is affected by the temperature difference between the ambient temperature and skin surface. In this study, we found experimentally that the signal changes of the pressure sensors and a temperature sensor were caused by the temperature of the wrist surface while the pressure sensor was contacted on the skin surface for measuring pulse wave. To observe the signal change of the pulse sensor caused by temperature increase on sensor surface, Peltier device that can be kept at a set temperature was used. As the temperature of Peltier device was kept at $35^{\circ}C$ (the maximum wrist temperature), the device was put on the pulse sensor surface. The temperature and pressure signals were obtained simultaneously from a temperature sensor and six pressure sensors embedded in the pulse sensor. As a result of signal analysis, the sensor pressure was decreased during temperature increase of pulse sensor surface. In addition, the signal difference ratio of pressure and temperature sensors with respect to thickness of cover layer in pulse sensor was increased exponentially. Therefore, the signal of pressure sensor was modified by the compensation equation derived by the temperature sensor signal. We suggested that the thickness of cover layer in pulse sensor should be designed considering the skin surface temperature.

The turbine flowmeter is selected for high precision and reproducibility at the time of flow rate measurement but causes various uncertainty factors of measurement in the difference between the standard environmental condition at calibration and the environmental condition at the site. Also, a reliable interpolation method is required for use in sections other than calibrated measurement values. Therefore, in this paper, in order to improve the reliability of the flow rate measurement, we designed and manufactured a device that accurately measures the output signal of the turbine flowmeter, interpolates the value of the calibrated result value, and corrects the temperature change in real time We confirmed the reliability of the measurement at the site to carry out the performance verification.

INTRODUCTION: Local heat and cold application has been frequently used as means of muscle relaxation and blood circulation or reinforcing muscle strength, relaxing muscle tension in clinical situation. In particular, it has been known that long-term heat and cold application for relaxing muscle tension inhibits muscle spasticity or tension. But, it has been rarely reported that what influences of heat and cold application on activation of muscle action potential. Therefore, this study aims to analyze surface temperature and electromyography activities according to the heat and cold application. METHODE: Subjects of this research were 10 normal men and women (5 men, 5 women). Hot pack and cold pack was applied to vastus medialis muscle of thigh and rectus femoris muscle for 20 min. Surface temperature of vastus medialis muscle and rectus femoris muscle was measured, knee joint of subjects was in $45^{\circ}$ flexion, sitting on a chair, maximal isometric contraction was induced, surface electromyography (sEMG) signals were collected and root mean square (RMS) and median frequency (MOF) were analyzed. All measurements were conducted before and immediately after experiment, 10 min., 20 min. and 30 min. after experiment. Data were analyzed with SPSS 12.0 program, comparison of changes in superficial temperature and sEMG signals through repeated measurement was conducted with repeated measures ANOVA and significance level $\alpha$ was 0.05. RESULTS: Changes of surface temperature of vastus medialis muscle according to cold application were radically decreased immediately after application, but it was recovered after 30 min. of application and it showed significant difference (F4. 36=72.216, P<0.001). Surface temperature of rectus femoris also showed radical decrease immediately after application, but it was recovered after 30 min. of application and showed significant difference (F4. 36=88.930, P<0.001). Changes of surface temperature of vastus medialis muscle according to heat application were radically increased immediately after application, but it was recovered after 30 min. of application and it showed significant difference (F4. 36=27.267, P<0.001). Surface temperature of rectus femoris also showed radical decrease immediately after application, but it was recovered after 30 min. of application and showed significant difference (F4. 36=19.774, P<0.001). Changes of sEMG by heat and cold application were no statistical difference. Surface temperature of skeletal muscle after heat and cold application showed significant change for 30 min., but it was found that increase or decrease of surface temperature had not great influence on sEMG activities.
Reheating furnace is an essential facility of a rod mill plant where a billet is heated to the required rolling temperature so that it can be milled to produce wire. Sometimes, it is also necessary to control a transient billet temperature pattern according to the material characteristics to prevent a wire from breaking. Though it is very important objective to obtain a correct information of a billet temperature during furnace operation. Consequently, a billet temperature profile must be estimated. In this paper, a billet heat transfer model based on FEM (Finite Element Method) with spatially distributed emission factors is proposed and a measurement is also carried out for two different furnace operation conditions. Finally, the difference between the model outputs and the measurements is minimized by using the new optimization algorithm named uDEAS(Univariate Dynamic Encoding Algorithm for Searches) with multi-step tuning strategy. Hence, the information of billet temperatures can be obtained by using proposed model on various furnace operation conditions.

Reheating furnace is an essential facility of a rod mill plant where a billet is heated to the required rolling temperature so that it can be milled to produce wire. Although it is very important to obtain information on billet temperatures, it is not feasible during furnace operation. Consequently, a billet temperature profile should be estimated. Moreover, this estimation should be done within an appropriate time interval for an on-line application. In this paper, a billet heat transfer model based on 2D FEM(Finite Element Method) with spatially distributed emission factors is proposed for an on-line billet temperature estimation and also a measurement is carried out for two extremely different furnace operation patterns. Finally, the difference between the model outputs and the measurements is minimized by using a new optimization algorithm named uDEAS(Univariate Dynamic Encoding Algorithm for Searches) with multi-step tuning strategy. The obtained emission factors are applied to a simulation for the data which are not used in the model tuning for validation.
