Speech Quality Measure in a Mobile Communication System Using PLP Cepstral Distance with CMS (심리 음향 켑스트럼 평균 차감법을 이용한 이동 전화망에서의 음질 평가)

  • For the set up, management and repair of a mobile communication system, continuous estimation of speech quality is required. Speech quality measurement can be conducted by listener's judgement in a subjective test such as MOS (Mean Opinion Score) test. However, this method is laborious, expensive and time-consuming, it is advisable to predict subjective speech quality via objective measures. This paper presents a robust objective speech quality measure, PLP-CMS (Perceptual Linear Predictive-Cepstral Mean Subtraction), which can predict subjective speech quality in mobile communication systems. PLP-CMS has a high correlation with subjective quality owing to PLP (Perceptual Linear Predictive) analysis and shows a robust performance not being influenced by PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) channel effects due to CMS (Cepstral Mean Subtraction). To prove the performance of our proposed algorithm, we carried out subjective and objective quality estimation on speech samples which are variously distorted in a real mobile communication system. As a result, we demonstrated that PLP-CMS has a higher correlation with subjective quality than PSQM (Perceptual Speech Quality Measure) and PLP-CD (Perceptual Linear Predictive-Cepstral Distance).

  • To improve the bandwidth efficiency in the environment of digital mobile communications, a correlative coded FM system is designed. The signal of this system has continuous phase and high power efficiency due to the constant envelope. But this signal also has a little loss of the SNR and some degradation of the BER. In this paper, a modified MLSE method which uses correlative coded signal is adopted to improve the performance of the receiver. The MLSE method improved the BER performance in the used channel. Without the decision feedback, the receiver performance was improved by 2dB and with it, by 4dB Particularly, the MLSE method and the decision feedback showed better performance in bad channels than in a stable telephone channel.

  • In this paper, we compared speaker verification performance of the speech data collected in clean environment and in channel environment. For the improvement of the performance of speaker verification gathered in channel, we have studied on the efficient feature parameters in channel environment and on the preprocessing. Speech DB for experiment is consisted of Korean doublet of numbers, considering the text-prompted system. Speech features including LPCC(Linear Predictive Cepstral Coefficient), MFCC(Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficient), PLP(Perceptually Linear Prediction), LSP(Line Spectrum Pair) are analyzed. Also, the preprocessing of filtering to remove channel noise is studied. To remove or compensate for the channel effect from the extracted features, cepstral weighting, CMS(Cepstral Mean Subtraction), RASTA(RelAtive SpecTrAl) are applied. Also by presenting the speech recognition performance on each features and the processing, we compared speech recognition performance and speaker verification performance. For the evaluation of the applied speech features and processing methods, HTK(HMM Tool Kit) 2.0 is used. Giving different threshold according to male or female speaker, we compare EER(Equal Error Rate) on the clean speech data and channel data. Our simulation results show that, removing low band and high band channel noise by applying band pass filter(150~3800Hz) in preprocessing procedure, and extracting MFCC from the filtered speech, the best speaker verification performance was achieved from the view point of EER measurement.

  • Recently, broadcast news speech recognition has become one of the most attractive research areas. If we can transcribe automatically the broadcast news and store their contents in the text form instead of the video or audio signal itself, it will be much easier for us to search for the multimedia databases to obtain what we need. However, the desirable speech signal in the broadcast news are usually affected by the interfering signals such as the background noise and/or the music. Also, the speech of the reporter who is speaking over the telephone or with the ill-conditioned microphone is severely distorted by the channel effect. The interfered or distorted speech may be the main reason for the poor performance in the broadcast news speech recognition. In this paper, we investigated some methods to cope with the problems and we could see some performance improvements in the noisy broadcast news speech recognition.

  • This paper presents the implementation of an integrated messaging gateway (IMG) based on the open services gateway initiative (OSGi) specification to deliver home messages between home and some telecommunication devices. The IMG has four service agents to support a diverse communication channel. In this paper, we describe a software architecture for a seamless messaging and device layouts in the IMG. And then, we detail each components allowing users to be notified automatically through a cellular phone, a telephone, and the Internet.

  • 본 논문에서 핵심어 검출(Keyword spotting ) 시스템에서의 채널 왜곡에 대한 보상방법등의 성능을 비교하였다. 훈련을 음성과 인식실험용 음성은 서로 다른 환경에서 수집되었으며, 특별히 인식실험용 음성으로는 전화망을 통한 음성 데이터를 이용하였다. 전화망을 통한 음성인식에서는 채널왜곡과 부가잡음에 의해서 음성신호에 왜곡이 생기므로 이들에 대한 적적한 보상이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 채널 왜곡보상을 위한 처리방법으로 널리 사용되고 있는 global cepstral mean substraction (GCMS), local cepstral mean subtraction(LCMS) 그리고 RASTA processing을 적용하였다. 그리고 인식성능의 개선을 위해 이들 방법을 likelihood ration scorning 에 의한 후처리 과정을 적용하였다. 인식실험결과 이들 방법 모두 채널왜곡 보상을 하지 않았을 경우와 비교하여 더 좋은 인식성능을 얻을 수 있었으며, 그 중 후처리를 적용한 LCMS 방법이 가장 우수한 성능을 나타내었다.

  • 본 논문은 전화음성 서비스 시스템의 핵심 기술인 멀티채널 음성인식 시스템의 구현에 대해서 기술하고자 한다. 구현한 시스템은 전화망 인터페이스 모듈, 음성입력 모듈, 음성인식 모듈, 및 서비스 제어모듈로 구성되어 있다. 전화망 인터페이스 모듈은 전화망을 이용한 교환기와의 호 처리 및 이벤트 처리를 담당하며, 전화망 접속카드와 밀접한 관계를 가지고 있다. 음성입력 및 인식 모들은 호 접속이 이루어진 채널로부터 음성을 입력받아 단어인식 기능을 수행하는 부분으로서 멀티 채널을 수용할 수 있는 구조로 설계되어 있다. 음성인식 모델은 문맥 종속형 CHMM 모델이며, 각각의 HMM 모델은 3-state, skip path 로 구성되어 있다. 음성인식 모듈내의 함수들은 모두 re-entrant 하도록 구성함으로써 멀티 채별이 가능하며, 각각의 채널은 모두 독립적인 메모리 공간에서 동작하도록 되어있다. 이와 같은 멀티채널 전화음성인식 시스템은 Dialogic보드를 이용하여 Windows NT에서 동작하도록 구현하였다. 실험결과, 구현된 시스템은 실시간으로 상용서비스가 가능한 인식율을 보였으며 원활한 멀티채널 지원이 가능하였다.

  • 일반적으로 음성 인식에서의 성능은 잡음의 영향으로 인하여 저하된다. 전화망을 통한 한국어 연속 숫자음 인식은 음성인식 분야에 있어서 어려운 영역에 속하는데, 이는 조음 현상으로 인한 인식률 저하되는 점과 전화망 채널의 영향으로 인하여 스펙트럼 포락이 왜곡되며 음성신호의 대역폭이 제한되기 때문이다. 본 논문에서는 잡음의 영향을 줄이기 위하여, 2WF(2-stage Wiener Filter) 와 SWP (SNR-dependent Waveform Processing) 그리고 CMN(Cepstrum Mean Normalization)을 사용하였다. 2WF는 음성 신호의 포만트 구조를 적게 왜곡시키면서 전체적인 가산잡음 뿐만 아니라 동적 가산잡음도 줄여준다. SWP는 음성파형에서 SNR값이 상대적으로 큰 부분을 강조하여 전체적인 SNR을 향상시킬 수 있다. 또한, CMN은 특징벡터로부터 채널잡음의 영향을 정규화하여 음성 인식 성능을 향상시킨다. 이러한 방법들을 전화망 한국어 연속 숫자음 DB를 이용하여 실험한 결과, 음성신호의 왜곡을 최소화하면서 잡음의 영향을 줄여 전화망에서의 숫자음 인식 성능을 향상시킬 수 있었다.

An Exploratory Study on Channel Equity of Electronic Goods (가전제품 소비자의 Channel Equity에 관한 탐색적 연구)

  • Ⅰ. Introduction Retailers in the 21st century are being told that future retailers are those who can execute seamless multi-channel access. The reason is that retailers should be where shoppers want them, when they want them anytime, anywhere and in multiple formats. Multi-channel access is considered one of the top 10 trends of all business in the next decade (Patricia T. Warrington, et al., 2007) And most firms use both direct and indirect channels in their markets. Given this trend, we need to evaluate a channel equity more systematically than before as this issue is expected to get more attention to consumers as well as to brand managers. Consumers are becoming very much confused concerning the choice of place where they shop for durable goods as there are at least 6-7 retail options. On the other hand, manufacturers have to deal with category killers, their dealers network, Internet shopping malls, and other avenue of distribution channels and they hope their retail channel behave like extensions of their own companies. They would like their products to be foremost in the retailer's mind-the first to be proposed and effectively communicated to potential customers. To enable this hope to come reality, they should know each channel's advantages and disadvantages from consumer perspectives. In addition, customer satisfaction is the key determinant of retail customer loyalty. However, there are only a few researches regarding the effects of shopping satisfaction and perceptions on consumers' channel choices and channels. The purpose of this study was to assess Korean consumers' channel choice and satisfaction towards channels they prefer to use in the case of electronic goods shopping. Korean electronic goods retail market is one of good example of multi-channel shopping environments. As the Korea retail market has been undergoing significant structural changes since it had opened to global retailers in 1996, new formats such as hypermarkets, Internet shopping malls and category killers have arrived for the last decade. Korean electronic goods shoppers have seven major channels : (1)category killers (2) hypermarket (3) manufacturer dealer shop (4) Internet shopping malls (5) department store (6) TV home-shopping (7) speciality shopping arcade. Korean retail sector has been modernized with amazing speed for the last decade. Overall summary of major retail channels is as follows: Hypermarket has been number 1 retailer type in sales volume from 2003 ; non-store retailing has been number 2 from 2007 ; department store is now number 3 ; small scale category killers are growing rapidly in the area of electronics and office products in particular. We try to evaluate each channel's equity using a consumer survey. The survey was done by telephone interview with 1000 housewife who lives nationwide. Sampling was done according to 2005 national census and average interview time was 10 to 15 minutes. Ⅱ. Research Summary We have found that seven major retail channels compete with each other within Korean consumers' minds in terms of price and service. Each channel seem to have its unique selling points. Department stores were perceived as the best electronic goods shopping destinations due to after service. Internet shopping malls were perceived as the convenient channel owing to price checking. Category killers and hypermarkets were more attractive in both price merits and location conveniences. On the other hand, manufacturers dealer networks were pulling customers mainly by location and after service. Category killers and hypermarkets were most beloved retail channel for Korean consumers. However category killers compete mainly with department stores and shopping arcades while hypermarkets tend to compete with Internet and TV home shopping channels. Regarding channel satisfaction, the top 3 channels were service-driven retailers: department stores (4.27); dealer shop (4.21); and Internet shopping malls (4.21). Speciality shopping arcade(3.98) were the least satisfied channels among Korean consumers. Ⅲ. Implications We try to identify the whole picture of multi-channel retail shopping environments and its implications in the context of Korean electronic goods. From manufacturers' perspectives, multi-channel may cause channel conflicts. Furthermore, inter-channel competition draws much more attention as hypermarkets and category killers have grown rapidly in recent years. At the same time, from consumers' perspectives, 'buy where' is becoming an important buying decision as it would decide the level of shopping satisfaction. We need to develop the concept of 'channel equity' to manage multi-channel distribution effectively. Firms should measure and monitor their prime channel equity in regular basis to maximize their channel potentials. Prototype channel equity positioning map has been developed as follows. We expect more studies to develop the concept of 'channel equity' in the future.

  • The purpose in this study has to development the system on increasing operation of old-typed transceiver for solve the question that limited allocation frequencies and continuesly icreasment of traffic. Therefore, we are desigened the remote control system that has the function for variable channels, PTT and monitoring of transmission power and frequencies. Exchange of control data is to hold in common the twist two-wire or telephone line for the voice transmission. The H/W is consist of FSK and MCS-51 processor which are up-down control of channel, n control and monitoring display by serial data transmission. According to the simplex traffic operation is designed the algorithm of serial data transmission by sequential transmission sequence and protocol. The S/W of sequential transmission sequence is designed to usefully the intergrated communications system which is able to connection between the multi-transceiver and multi-terminal by master processor.
