해외 우정기관의 집배 차량 운영 동향 (Trends on Postal Vehicles in World-wide 10 Postal Agencies)

  • We provide trends on postal vehicles owned and operated by 10 overseas postal agencies, USPS, Postes Canada, Royal Mail, La Poste, Deutsche Post DHL, PostNL, Australia Post, China Post, Japan Post, and Thailand Post. This will be a useful asset to look into how the posts worldwide operate and manages their postal vehicles and service strategies. In this study, we provide the simple specifications of vehicles operated by each post, how to replace vehicles, how to service maintenance and repair, and modes of pick-up & delivery to be introduced soon. We expect this study to present appropriate policy implications for both postal agencies and logistics companies that are facing a major turning point in logistics to operate and evolve the delivery vehicles.

  • Intra- and inter- datacenter data traffic is rapidly increasing due to the spread of smart devices, cloud computing, and non-face-to-face services. Recently, 400-Gbps optical transceivers based on 100-Gbps/channel have been released primarily by major overseas companies. Various solutions for next-generation datacenter interconnect are being proposed by international standardization and multiple source agreement groups. Following this trend, ETRI has developed a 400-Gbps optical transmission/reception engine using 100-Gbps/channel light sources and photodetectors as well as a silica-based AWG. In the future, technologies of optical devices and components for intra-datacenter communication are expected to be developed based on a data rate of 200-Gbps/channel. Thus, 1.6-Tbps class optical transceivers will be released.

  • AMD is an American fabless semiconductor company that designs CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs, and APUs. AMD is competing with Intel with its Ryzen CPUs and Nvidia with its Radeon GPUs. Since 2008, production has been consigned to TSMC, concentrating on semiconductor design. AMD is releasing various new products through continuous R&D which is the basis for its growth. AMD stock have recorded the highest rise among global semiconductor companies as sales and operating profit soared due to the strong sales of new products.

  • Web 3.0 is a new web paradigm that aims to overcome the excessive commercialism and influence of big tech companies. Web 3.0 can be defined as a user-centered decentralized Internet environment, and Web 3.0 is a mixture of various terms and technologies such as blockchain, cryptocurrency, NFT, artificial intelligence, and metaverse. When new technology fields emerge, it is common to have positive and negative evaluations. As a result, rather than deciding which position is correct, it is necessary to investigate the causes and directions of change and prepare to seize the opportunity. In light of this, the present study examines the change in the web paradigm and the context of the emergence of Web 3.0, investigates the characteristics and major cases of Web 3.0, and discusses future issues and prospects.

  • A drone without attaching guns or bombs can be a dangerous weapon, since its motor speed is greater than 3000 rpm, which is similar to that of a mower powered by a LiPo battery. The anti-drone system is the only means of detecting and neutralizing drone attacks. Many defense companies around the world provide solutions using various types of equipment (for example, radar, cameras, jamming guns, and net guns). ETRI has also developed a Low-Altitude Drone Detection (LADD) system consisting of Ku-band radar and an Electro-Optical/Infra-Red (EO/IR) camera. In this paper, we summarize recent technical advances in anti-drone systems around the world and introduce the features and describe the performance of the LADD system.

  • In a situation where applications determine business competitiveness, they cannot respond to varying customer requirements without the cloud's flexibility and scalability. Companies have begun seeking ways to enjoy the advantages of the cloud fully, and the concept of "Cloud Native" is emerging as a solution to the problem. Cloud Native is now a target of interest in the market. Microservice and serverless functions can play a vital role in cloud-native architecture. Microservice arranges applications into various independent services, each offering certain functionality through mutual networking. eBPF is attracting attention as a cloud-native networking solution that quickly supports microservice features that repeat creation/deletion. This study identifies the characteristics of eBPF-based networking and evaluates cloud-native networking and secure networking using eBPF.

The impact of 5G multi-access edge computing cooperation announcement on the telecom operators' firm value

  • Since multi-access edge computing (MEC) was established as a key enabler of 5G, MEC based on 5G networks (5G MEC) has been perceived as a new business opportunity for many industry players, including telecom operators. Numerous 5G MEC cooperation announcements among companies playing their respective roles in the MEC ecosystem have been recently released. However, because of cooperative and competitive relationships among key players in the MEC ecosystem and the uncertainty of 5G MEC, the announcement of 5G MEC cooperation can negatively affect the telecom operators' firm value. This study investigates the market reaction to announcements of 5G MEC cooperation for telecom operators using an event study methodology. The empirical results show that announcements of 5G MEC cooperation have a negative impact on the telecom operators' firm value. The results also show that the early deployment of 5G networks may reduce the negative impact of 5G MEC cooperation announcements by reducing uncertainty.

하드웨어 트로이목마 탐지기술 동향 (Trends of Hardware-based Trojan Detection Technologies)

  • Information technology (IT) has been applied to various fields, and currently, IT devices and systems are used in very important areas, such as aviation, industry, and national defense. Such devices and systems are subject to various types of malicious attacks, which can be software or hardware based. Compared to software-based attacks, hardware-based attacks are known to be much more difficult to detect. A hardware Trojan horse is a representative example of hardware-based attacks. A hardware Trojan horse attack inserts a circuit into an IC chip. The inserted circuit performs malicious actions, such as causing a system malfunction or leaking important information. This has increased the potential for attack in the current supply chain environment, which is jointly developed by various companies. In this paper, we discuss the future direction of research by introducing attack cases, the characteristics of hardware Trojan horses, and countermeasure trends.

그린ICT 산업의 VC투자 동향과 시사점 (Trends and Implications of Venture Capital Investment in Green Information and Communication Technology)

  • As the response to climate change becomes a more pressing global issue, so do expectations for climate change in the green information and communication technology (ICT) industry and the possibility of solving environmental problems through ICT. However, because the green ICT industry is still in its early stages, there is little research on it. Understanding the startup ecosystem in the industry is helpful for recognizing innovation trends in emerging technologies such as green ICT. In this regard, this paper investigates the current state and characteristics of the green ICT ecosystem and presents implications based on an examination of startup venture capital investment trends and submarket identification in the green ICT industry as emphasized by the carbon neutrality paradigm shift. The analysis included 4,807 companies and 3,990 funding records, as well as exploratory data analysis and "k-means" clustering techniques.

저궤도 5G-NTN 서비스 동향 (LEO 5G-NTN Service Trends)

  • Recently, there have been the World Economic Forum's space economy guidelines, the International Telecommunication Union's regulations for each satellite orbit, the development of chips using satellite communication by global manufacturers and service providers, and the registration of key telecommunication businesses. Accordingly, trends in low-orbit 5G satellite communication services in Korea were investigated and analyzed, and the current situation in Korea was diagnosed. Korea's satellite communications accounts for 0.31% of all satellites when analyzed centering on countries with 20 or more satellites. Korea's communication satellite holdings are insufficient compared to 187 times that of the United States, 45 times that of Russia, and 18 times that of China. There is no link technology between 5G and LEO, and the cost of launch vehicles is high. In addition, it is judged that the ecosystem of equipment companies in the low-orbit 5G-NTN business model is insufficient.
