Design and Experiment of Ku_band Linear Active Phased Array Antenna System (Ku 대역 선형 능동 위상 배열 안테나 시스템 설계 및 실험)

  • In this paper, the linear active phased array antenna system operated in Ku DBS band was designed and experimented. The antenna system was composed of sixteen radiating active channels and Wilkinson power combiners with 16-channel inputs, a stabilizing DC bias and phase control board. Electrical beams of the antenna system can be formed by controling the phase-states of 3-bit digital phase shifter inside each active channel by virtue of the phase control board. The amplitude and phase deviations measured between active channels were less than ${\pm}0.8dB$ and ${\pm}15^{\circ}$, respectively, and the noise figure of each active channel was measured less than 1.2 dB in the operating band. The measured performances of the overall antenna system showed the antenna gain of more than 23.07 dBi and the sidelobe level of less than -11.17 dBc, and the bore-sight cross-polarization level of less than -12.75 dBc in the operating band. Also, by phase-controlling active channels, the beam scan patterns at $10^{\circ},\;20^{\circ},\;30^{\circ}$ were measured, and the losses caused by the corresponding beam scanning were 1.1 dB, 2.5 dB and 3.6 dB from the measurements, respectively.

  • To reduce the redundancy within samples that resulted from uniform sampling method, nonuniform sampling or nonredundant-sample coding methods can be considered. However, it is well known that when conventional nonuniform sampling methods are applied directly to speech signal, the required amount of data is comparable to or mure than that by uniform sampling method like PCM. To overcome this problem, a new nonuniform sampling method is proposed, in which nonuniform sampling is applied to the low-pass filtered speech signal and higher band is compensated by 8 colored Gaussian random noise with various noise levels. By this method, speech signal waveform can be encoded by 1.8 times larger compression ratio than the conventional nonuniform sampling method.

Design and Fabrication of Thin Microwave Absorbers of ITO/Dielectric Structures Used for Mobile Telecommunication Frequency Bands (ITO박막/세라믹유전체 구조의 이동통신 주파수대역용 박형 전파흡수체의 설계 및 제조)

  • For the aim of thin microwave absorbers used in mobile telecommunication frequency band, this study proposed a high permittivity dielectrics(λ/4 spacer) coated with ITO thin films of 377 $\Omega$/sq(impedance transformer). High frequency dielectric properties of ferroelectric ceramics, electrical properties of ITO thin films and microwave absorbing properties of ITO/dielectrics were investigated. Ferroelectric materials including $BaTiO_3$(BT), 0.9Pb($Mg_{1}$3/Nb$_{2}$3/)$O_3$-0.1 $PbTiO_3$(PMN-PT), 0.8 Pb (Mg$_{1}$3/$Nb_{2}$3/)$O_3$-0.2 Pb($Zn_{1}$3$_Nb{2}$3/)$O_3$(PMN-PZN) were prepared by ceramic processing for high permittivity dielectrics,. The ferroelectric materials show high dielectric constant and dielectric loss in the microwave frequency range. The microwave absorbance (at 2 ㎓) of BT, 0.9PMN-0.1PT, and 0.8PMN-0.2PZN were found to be 60%(at a thickness of 3.5 mm), 20% (2.5 mm), and 30% (2.5 mm), respectively. By coating the ITO thin films on the ferroelectric substrates with λ/4 thickness, the microwave absorbance is greatly improved. Particularly, when the surface resistance of ITO films is closed of 377 $\Omega$/sq, the reflection loss is reduced to -20 ㏈(99% absorbance). This is attributed to the wave impedance matching controlled by ITO thin films at a given thickness of high permittivity dielectrics of λ/4 (3.5 mm for BT, 2.5 mm for PMN-PT and PMN-PZN at 2 ㎓). It is, therefore, successfully proposed that the ITO/ferroelectric materials with controlled surface resistance and high dielectric constant can be useful as a thin microwave absorbers in mobile telecommunication frequency band.

  • A two-axis gimbal-type X-band antenna mounted on an observation satellite can efficiently transmit high-capacity image data to a ground station regardless of both the satellite position and the orbital motion. However, this X-band antenna induces unnecessary micro-jitter which can degrade the image quality of the high-resolution observation satellite. Therefore, to achieve the high-resolution image quality from the observation satellite, micro-jitters have been required to be isolated. In this study, to resolve aforementioned drawback, we proposed blade gear using a shape memory alloy (SMA) applied to azimuth stage of X-band antenna. To investigate the rotational basic characteristics of the proposed SMA blade gear, we performed rotational static loading test. Futhermore, to evaluate the cycle to failure of the gear, accelerated life test was conducted. The temperature test was conducted to confirm rotational basic characteristics at various temperature conditions. To verify the isolation performance for micro-jitter, we performed micro-jitter measurement test.

  • Telecommunication system demands for increased bandwidths and operating frequencies for analog signal processing could be satisfied in the near future by the emergence of a novel technology based on magnetostatic waves propagating in low loss ferrimagnetic films. The magnetostatic wave is the only available technology for analog signal processing directly at millimeter wave frequencies. This paper has been studied the design and implementation of a Magnetostatic Surface Wave band-pass filter for LMDS system.

Complexity Reduction Algorithm of Speech Coder(EVRC) for CDMA Digital Cellular System

  • The standard of evaluating function of speech coder for mobile telecommunication can be shown in channel capacity, noise immunity, encryption, complexity and encoding delay largely. This study is an algorithm to reduce complexity applying to CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access) mobile telecommunication system, which has a benefit of keeping the existing advantage of telecommunication quality and low transmission rate. This paper has an objective to reduce the computing complexity by controlling the frequency band nonuniform during the changing process of LSP(Line Spectrum Pairs) parameters from LPC(Line Predictive Coding) coefficients used for EVRC(Enhanced Variable-Rate Coder, IS-127) speech coders. Its experimental result showed that when comparing the speech coder applied by the proposed algorithm with the existing EVRC speech coder, it's decreased by 45% at average. Also, the values of LSP parameters, Synthetic speech signal and Spectrogram test result were obtained same as the existing method.

  • When we heard the sound of waves, we can feel stable and comfortable. I'm going to analysis the cause of comfortableness. The period is about three seconds when we breathed in relaxed state. The frequencies which in waves sound and meditation or heavy sleep are alike. Furthermore we can see that frequency is distributed in all over band width like white noise. In this paper, we confirm the fact that waves sound give comfortableness to us with Frequency Following Response.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel D-ATR (Differential-Average Transmitted Reference) scheme for UWB (Ultra Wide Band) based on impulse radio. The proposed scheme utilizing differential coding at transceiver, does not cause half loss of data rate unlike the conventional TR (Transmitted Reference) and ATR (Average TR) systems which transmit additional reference signals. In addition, the proposed scheme may provide improved BER (Bit Error Rate) performance by averaging the received reference signals like the conventional ATR. The proposed D-ATR receiver produces the averaged reference template by considering both the detected data bit and the differential coding rule.

  • 협대역 다중접속 방식의 한계를 벗어난 Ultra-wide band(UWB) 기술이 고속 데이터 전송을 위해 많이 개발되어지고 있다. UWB 시스템은 방사전력 제한을 두고 있어서 근거리 실내 무선통신 분야에서 활용 범위가 확대되고 있다. 하지만 실내 무선 환경에서는 벽, 천장, 바닥 그리고 실내에 위치한 장애물 등에 의한 다중경로 페이딩 영향으로 초고속 실내 무선통신 서비스를 제공하는데 어려움이 있다. 이러한 실내 다중경로 성분에 의한 페이딩을 경감시키는 여러 가지 방법 중에서 원형편파를 이용하면, 상대적으로 긴 지연을 갖는 강한 다중경로 성분을 효과적으로 제거할 수가 있기 때문에 수신신호의 RMS 지연 감소, 페이딩 경감 및 신호강도 개선효과 등을 얻을 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 원형편파를 고려한 수정된 UWB 채널의 파라미터를 수정 정립하였고, 수정된 채널모델을 UWB 시스템에 적용하여 성능 개선을 시도하였다.

Saturated Absorption Spectroscopy of 13C2H2 in the Near Infrared Region

  • Using the external cavity spectroscopy method, we have observed the saturated absorption spectrum of the P(16) line of the v$_1$+v$_3$ band of $^{13}C$_2$H$_2$$. The frequency of a laser has been stabilized to the saturated absorption spectrum. The relative contrast of the saturation spectrum is about 7% with respect to the linear absorption and the linewidth is about 1.8 MHz. The frequency fluctuation of the stabilized LD is about $\pm$ 20 KHz for a sampling time of 100 ms.
