This research focuses on what factors determine firm's decisions on R&D outsourcing and how R&D outsourcing affect R&D performance. In recent years many firms outsource R&D activities instead of internalizing it. Thus, further investigation is necessary to find out this recent trend. Based on several theoretical background the study developed three determining factors of R&D outsourcing which are transactional level, firm level, and risk level. Transactional level composes of independent variables such as R&D cost saving, asset specificity and uncertainty which mainly comes from Transaction Cost Economics theory. Firm level composes of openness to technology from outer source, R&D capability, and outsourcing experience. Risk level composes of technological risk, cost-related risk and managerial risk. The result shows that R&D outsourcing is significantly related to cost saving aspect, low asset specific firms, firms without solid technological background, firms which are open to external technology, firms with other types of outsourcing experience, and firms which take technological risks. However, proposed relationship between degree of R&D outsourcing and R&D performance found out to be insignificant. This research is contribute to the field of outsourcing study since it will give guidance to managers who need to make strategic decisions on R&D outsourcing activities.
This study explores the tendency of corporations and organizations to continue with their current processes despite having incentives for better Information Technology (IT) innovation or transition. In this context, the study argues that organizations may struggle with 'outsourcing inertia,' a well-known concept referring to an organization's deficient adaptability to environmental changes, particularly defined here as the organization's slow adaptation to changes in outsourcing levels. To verify this, the study analyzes how key variables identified from existing IT Outsourcing (ITO) decision-making research and recent studies on cloud computing transitions actually affect a firm's transition intentions. In the process, this study investigates the moderating effect of a firm's outsourcing inertia, utilizing the Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework and the Push-Pull-Mooring (PPM) model based on migration theory to propose a research model. The study aims to contribute to finding strategic approaches necessary for facilitating IT innovation and transition by understanding the impact of outsourcing inertia on the decision-making process related to IT outsourcing. It is important to note that the majority of domestic conglomerates own IT subsidiaries, which significantly influence the process of transitioning to cloud computing. Nevertheless, research on the impact of IT subsidiaries on cloud computing transition is relatively scarce. Based on this background, this study proposes that IT subsidiaries within domestic conglomerates can act as a significant mooring factor of organizational inertia in the decision-making process for adopting cloud computing. Through this, the study seeks to provide strategic insights for overcoming organizational inertia faced by IT subsidiaries during the cloud computing transition process.

This study proposes a technology portfolio analysis method for technology outsourcing of pharmaceutical cooperations by applying the concepts of 'Pipeline Soundness' and 'Patent Validity'. This study also applied the developed portfolio analysis method to a 'real world case' of Amgen's acquisition of Onyx Pharmaceuticals to prove the applicability of the method to the real world cases and investigated the validity of the acquisition affair between the two companies. The results of portfolio analysis showed that Amgen's technology portfolio will be improved by acquiring Onyx Pharmaceuticals especially in cancer field which is their main field. So we concluded that Amgen's choice of Onyx pharmaceuticals as a source of technology outsourcing was reasonable. We think that the technology portfolio analysis method developed by this study will be a valuable tool for pharmaceutical cooperations for investigating their current technology status and selecting target companies for technology outsourcing.

This study investigates the role of logistics capability and logistics outsourcing on the performance of manufacturing companies in Pakistan. It examines how logistics capability affects firm's performance, why outsourcing is essential and how firms benefited if they outsource the service rather than establishing their own logistics capability. This research is based on a survey using structured a questionnaire to collect the primary data. The target population is logistics specialists of manufacturing companies in Pakistan with head offices based on Karachi, that have their own logistics or outsource their logistics. The questionnaire has been distributed to 500 respondents in 113 manufacturing companies in Pakistan. Confirmatory factor analysis has been used as statistical techniques to check the factor loading of the components, and SEM (Structural Equation Model) is used to check the impact of logistics capability on firm's performance as well as the role of logistics outsourcing as a mediator. The findings of the research suggest logistics capability has positive impact on the performance of the manufacturing companies in Pakistan, and logistics capability has also an impact on logistics outsourcing. On the other hand, the study found that logistics outsourcing has no significant impact on the manufacturing companies in Pakistan.
Clients' outsourcing strategies noted in the IT outsourcing literature generate varying levels of client dependence on vendors. This study investigates clients' efforts to mitigate such dependence by utilizing multiple vendors. We use the theoretical lenses of resource dependency and opportunism to study this phenomenon. Specifically. we consider degree of outsourcing, duration of contract, and externalization of control as strategic choices that engender vulnerabilities that clients seek to offset by using multiple vendors. This study then considers the basis of the outsourcing relationships, clients' satisfaction with the relationships. and clients' IT workforce size as conditions that induce clients' concerns about vendor opportunism. This study argues that these conditions can exacerbate clients' experience of vulnerability. further encouraging clients' use of multiple vendors. The research model developed is tested in a survey of firms in South Korea. Results suggest a strong impact of outsourcing strategic choices on the number of vendors used by clients. The anticipated moderating effects of opportunism were only weakly supported by the data though. Theoretical and practical implications of the results are considered and suggestions for future research are offered.

Outsourcing computation is one of the most important applications in cloud computing, and it has a huge ability to satisfy the demand of data centers. Modular exponentiation computation, broadly used in the cryptographic protocols, has been recognized as one of the most time-consuming calculation operations in cryptosystems. Previously, modular exponentiations can be securely outsourced by using two untrusted cloud servers. In this paper, we present two practical and secure outsourcing modular exponentiations schemes that support only one untrusted cloud server. Explicitly, we make the base and the index blind by putting them into a matrix before send to the cloud server. Our schemes provide better performance in higher efficiency and flexible checkability which support single cloud server. Additionally, there exists another advantage of our schemes that the schemes are proved to be secure and effective without any cryptographic assumptions.
A contingency model of outsourcing is developed from the information systems (IS) literature and strategic management literature in order to assess the following question: What factors influence change in the extent to which an organization outsources IS functions? Based on the literature, this study identifies four IS factors-gaps in information quality, IS support quality, IS staff quality, and IS cost effectiveness-and three organizational factors-the gap in financial performance, strategic orientation, and the role of information technology in an organization-that influence the change in degree of outsourcing. These factors are hypothesized to influence the change in the extent of an organization's outsourcing of IS functions. From a mail survey of 188 top IS executives in U.S. companies, the results of analysis of covariance and bivariate correlational and multivariate regression analyses provide the following major findings: (a) This study found support for the proposed research model. (b) The change in the degree of IS outsourcing is determined by gaps in information quality, IS support quality, IS cost effectiveness, and financial performance and by the role of IT among IS and organizational factors.
As a result of the fast development of Information communication technology, the competitive advantage of companies and the service quality of nonprofit organizations has been largely changed. Corresponding to this kind of change, companies have tried to make production improvement, competitive strengthening, and organizational innovation. Meanwhile, the nonprofit organizations directed by the government are pursuing the service innovation from general administration area to the public service for civilians. In relation to this, risk management of the company's information systems outsourcing has largely been studied until now. However, the study of risk management for nonprofit organization information systems outsourcing has rarely been made. In this paper, to provide the theoretical base for further research, we have attempted to develop the evaluation framework for risk management of information systems outsourcing considering the characteristics of nonprofit organizations.
To improve the quality of the services and to concentrate on the core capability, in public sector the IT outsourcing is recently being vitalized by the institutional support of the government for the entrusting non-government. Because the lots of general studies so far have simply focused on indicating fragmentary factors i.e. economical factors, risk factors, system factors, or induction objects, etc., they are insufficient in making the practical decisions, therefore we indicated systemized model extending over the whole range of the IT outsourcing to support substantial decision makings, and assorted 4 categories and drew considerable 55 factors from the literature study to materialize the previously considerable factors at each decision making stage. And the principal factors were drawn from each decision making category by a group of 11 experts. Besides, a henceforth plan for the application was also presented through an actual example of the IT outsourcing decision making process of 'M', a public enterprise.

Crowd-based outsourcing is an emerging trend in testing, which integrates advantages of crowd-based outsourcing in software testing. Open call format is used to accomplish various network tasks involving different types of testing levels and techniques at various places by software testers. Crowd-sourced software testing can lead to an improper testing process as if it does not allocate the right task to the right crowd with required skills and not choose the right crowd; it can lead to huge results, which become time-consuming and challenging crowd-source manager for the identification of improper one. The primary purpose of this research is to make crowd-based outsourced software testing more effective and reliable by relating association between the software tester, personality characteristic, and different levels of software testing, i.e., unit, integration, and system, in order to find appropriate personality characteristic for required testing level. This research has shown an observed experiment to determine which software testing level suits which personality characteristic tester in a crowd-based software testing environment. A total of 1000 software testers from different software houses and firms in Pakistan were registered to perform tasks at different software testing levels. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) test is used to identify each tester's personality characteristic involved in this research study.
