N- vs. S-Substitution reactions of 1-substituted tetrazoline-5-thiones with various allyl or benzyl halides were studied in order to find effective conditions for N-substitution reactions. When allyl or benzyl halides were reacted with 1-substituted tetrazoline-5-thiones in the presence of TMSI or $BF_3{\cdot}OEt_2$ (or other Lewis acids), N-substitution at 4-position in addition to S-substitution occurred. Reactions were performed either with or without a solvent such as dioxane or propionitrile in the presence of potassium iodide.
Effect of Co substitution on crystal structures of two nickel silicides, NiSi and $NiSi_2$, is investigated by using an ab initio calculation. Relaxed NiSi and $NiSi_2$ structures are calculated and the calculated lattice parameters are in good agreement with experimentally determined lattice parameters within about 2%. A Co atom substitutes a Ni and Si site, respectively, to evaluate the preferable site between them. Co prefers Ni site to Si site in both NiSi and $NiSi_2$. The calculated total energy also indicates that the Co substitution to Ni site stabilizes both the NiSi and $NiSi_2$ structures. Co also prefers Ni site in $NiSi_2$ to that in NiSi, indicating that $NiSi_2$ becomes more stable than NiSi with Co substitution. As Co addition to NiSi improves its thermal stability experimentally, this indicates that the energy barrier between the two phases is high enough to prevent the phase transformation from NiSi to $NiSi_2$ up to high temperature.

$Na^+$ ion conductivity can be improved by the substitution of an Mg atom for an Al atom to form a nonstoichiometric $Na^+$$\beta$-alumina. We performed a first principles study to investigate the most stable substitution site of an Mg atom and the resulting structural change of the nonstoichiometric $Na^+$$\beta$-alumina. Al atoms were classified as four different layers in the spinel block that are separated by conduction planes in the nonstoichiometric $Na^+$$\beta$-alumina. The substitution of an Mg atom for an Al atom at a tetragonal site was more favorable than that at an octahedral site. The substitution in the spinel block was more favorable than that close to the conduction plane. This result was well explained by the volume changes of the polyhedrons, by the standard deviation of the Mg-O distance, and by the comparison with bulk MgO structure. Our result indicates that the most preferable site for the Mg atom was the tetrahedral site at the spinel block in the nonstoichiometric $Na^+$$\beta$-alumina.
Cobalt subtitution on NiSi is investigated by using an ab-initio calculation. Firstly, a relaxed NiSi structure is calculated and the calculated lattice parameters are compared with experimentally determined lattice parameters. The calculated values are smaller than the experimental values by about 2%. As the calculation is based on 0 K, and the experimental measurement is performed at room temperature, those values are in good agreement. Next, a Co atom substitutes a Ni and Si site, respectively, to evaluate the preferable site between them. Co prefers Ni site to Si site. The calculated total energy also indicates that the Co substitution to Ni site stabilizes the NiSi structure. Therefore, the thermal stability of NiSi with Co addition can be achieved by the structure stabilization of NiSi by Co substitution into Ni site of NiSi.
After reported that Styrene dimer and Styrene trimer was Endocrine Disrupter, if it was a fact or not, the sales of PSP noodle cup was rapidly decreased and social responsibilities of the substitution materials development was raised. Therefore we had studied many materials like paper, pulp mold, PP injection molding, PP lamination, etc as substitution materials and selected paper cup which was safe in many sides and easy to recycle. Mainly we had checked the shape, safety, stability and recycling possibility of paper cup and secured many data which could prove them.
A growth trial (Expt. 1) and an in vitro fermentation experiment (Expt. 2) were conducted to determine the response of growth performance, cecal fermentation characteristics and in vitro gas production to incremental levels of substitution of digestible fiber for lignified fiber in the diet of weaned rabbits. Three diets, formulated by substituting soyhulls (SH; used as digestible fiber source) for soybean straw (used as lignified fiber source) at substitution levels of 0, 25 and 50%, were used in a factorial design. In the growth trial (Expt. 1), increasing levels of SH substitution resulted in a quadratic increase in daily body weight gain rate (p<0.04) and feed conversion efficiency (p<0.02), but in a numerical decrease in dietary DM intake (p=0.15). When SH were included in the diet at 25% substitution level, rabbits had the highest rate of liveweight gain and feed conversion efficiency. As SH substitution level increased, pH values and ammonia-N of cecal contents linearly (p<0.001) decreased, but total VFA concentration linearly (p<0.03) increased. With incremental levels of SH substitution, the percentage of acetate and butyrate linearly (p<0.05) reduced, but the percentage of propionate and minor acids linearly (p<0.03) increased. Increasing the SH substitution levels tended to increase incidence of diarrhea. In the in vitro fermentation experiment (Expt. 2), regardless of origin of substrates fermented, increasing SH substitution level resulted in increased maximal gas production (p<0.001) and shortened gas production lag time, but had no effect on gas production rate (p>0.2). These observations suggest that incrementally feeding SH to rabbits could stimulate their cecal microbial activity, allowing cecal fermentation to shift towards favoring fiber digestion. In conclusion, digestible fiber from soyhulls may partially substitute for more lignified fiber, soybean straw, without having an adverse effect on cecal fermentative and microbial activity and growth performance. For growing rabbits, about 73% of total dietary NDF should be supplied by effective NDF, the remainder could come from digestible NDF, such as soyhulls.
Objective: This study was conducted to compare different methods on effective energy evaluation of corn silage for beef cattle. Methods: Twenty Wandong bulls (Chinese indigenous yellow cattle) with initial body weight of $281{\pm}15.6kg$, were assigned to 1 of 5 dietary treatments with 4 animals per treatment in a randomized complete block design. Five dietary treatments included group 1 with corn silage only diet, group 2 with corn silage-concentrate basal diet (BD) and 3 groups with 3 test diets, which were the BD partly substituted by corn silage at 10%, 30%, and 60%. The total collection digestion trial was conducted for 5 d for each block after a 10-d adaptation period, and then an open-circuit respiratory cage was used to measure the gas exchange of each animal in a consecutive 4-d period. Results: The direct method-derived metabolizable energy and net energy of corn silage were 8.86 and 5.15 MJ/kg dry matter (DM), expressed as net energy requirement for maintenance and gain were 5.28 and 2.90 MJ/kg DM, respectively; the corresponding regression method-derived estimates were 8.96, 5.34, 5.37, and 2.98 MJ/kg DM, respectively. The direct method-derived estimates were not different (p>0.05) from those obtained using the regression method. Using substitution method, the nutrient apparent digestibility and effective energy values of corn silage varied with the increased corn silage substitution ratio (p<0.05). In addition, the corn silage estimates at the substitution ratio of 30% were similar to those estimated by direct and regression methods. Conclusion: In determining the energy value of corn silage using substitution method, there was a discrepancy between different substitution ratios, and the substitution ratio of 30% was more appropriate than 10% or 60% in the current study. The regression method based on multiple point substitution was more appropriate than single point substitution on energy evaluation of feedstuffs for beef cattle.

Blue-emitting $CaAl_2Si_2O_8:Eu^{2+}(CAS:Eu^{2+})$ phosphor, prepared by solid-state reaction, is described in this paper. We researched the effect of boron ion substitution in the host materials. The phase and luminescent properties were investigated using the powder X-ray diffraction(XRD) and photoluminescence(PL) spectra.
In this paper, a theoretical approach is studied to predict structural performances and weight reduction rates of a car-body with shell type sections in case that its materials have to be substituted. For the material substitution design of a car-body, bending, axial and twisting deformations are considered under constant stiffness and strength conditions, which utilize some new indices derived from a structural performance point of view. The developed indices to measure the weight reduction by the material substitution give good guidelines on conceptual design of car-bodies.
