BACKGROUND: It is important to understand residual patterns of pesticides applied on crops for ensuring their safety in agricultural products. However, there are few studies on the residual patterns of pesticides in minor crops, which are small in cultivation area. In this study, residual amounts of bifenthrin and chlorfenapyr sprayed on perilla leaf as a minor crop were investigated to know their residual patterns. METHODS AND RESULTS: Bifenthrin and chlorfenapyr were sprayed 2 or 3 times on perilla leaves at a week interval prior to harvest, and the perilla leaves were collected at 0, 1, 3, 5 and 7 days after the final application of pesticides. Recoveries for residual analysis of pesticides spiked on perilla leaves with concentrations of 0.1 and 0.5 mg/kg were 81.9-104.8%. The residual amounts of pesticides interpreted using first order kinetics model show that dissipation constants of bifenthrin and chlorfenapyr in perilla leaves were 0.0724-0.0535 and $0.0948-0.0821day^{-1}$, respectively. In addition, the dissipation half-lives in perilla leaves were 9.6-12.9 days for bifenthrin and 7.3-8.4 days for chlorfenapyr. When pre-harvest residue limits (PHRL) of bifenthrin and chlorfenapyr at 10 days before harvest calculated on the basis of the dissipation constants and maximum residue limits of the pesticides were calculated as 17.1 for bifenthrin and 15.9 mg/kg for chlorfenapyr. CONCLUSION: Therefore, the PHRL calculated using the time-dependant residual patterns of pesticides in perilla leaves and their regression analysis may be used as experimental evidences in order to ensure the safety of pesticides in perilla leaves before harvest.
The residual concentration and half-life time of synthetic pyrethroid insecticide cyfluthrin in potato and soil were investigated by gas chromatography (GC). The pesticide in potato was extracted with n-hexane, filtered and concentrated. The concentrated phase was transferred to the Sep-Pak silica gel column and purified with acetonitrile and acetone for the analysis by gas chromatography equipped with electron capture detector (GC-ECD). From the standard additional experiments with 0.01 and $0.1{\mu}g$, the recoveries were 85-87% and the detection limit was 0.005 ng. The soil sample was extracted with acetone and dichloromethane. The organic phase was concentrated and redissolved with n-hexane and analyzed with GC-ECD after cleaned with Sep-Pak column. From the standard additional experiments with 0.01 and 0.1 ng, the recoveries were 84-88% and the detection limit was 0.005ng. The half-life time of cyfluthrin in the silty clay was 25 days in the room laboratory and 0.6 days in the fieJd test whereas it was 38 days and 0.5 days for each in case of silty loam.
The reliability of reinforced concrete structures is frequently compromised by the deterioration caused by reinforcement corrosion. Evaluating the effect caused by reinforcement corrosion on structural behaviour of corrosion damaged concrete structures is essential for effective and reliable infrastructure management. In lifecycle management of corrosion affected reinforced concrete structures, it is difficult to correctly assess the lifecycle performance due to the uncertainties associated with structural resistance deterioration. This paper presents a stochastic deterioration modelling approach to evaluate the performance deterioration of corroded concrete structures during their service life. The flexural strength deterioration is analytically predicted on the basis of bond strength evolution caused by reinforcement corrosion, which is examined by the experimental and field data available. An assessment criterion is defined to evaluate the flexural strength deterioration for the time-dependent reliability analysis. The results from the worked examples show that the proposed approach is capable of evaluating the structural reliability of corrosion damaged concrete structures.
The present study was conducted to monitor the level of triflumizole residues in fruits (apple and pear) and vegetable (cucumber) samples in order to assess risk posed by the presence of such residues to the consumer. Triflumizole was applied at a recommended dose rate to apple and pear pulps and to a cucumber sample. The samples were collected at harvesting time following several treatments (three and/or four treatments). Triflumizole was extracted with methanol and re-extracted into dichloromethane. The presence of triflumizole was determined by HPLC with UV detection at 238 nm following the cleanup of the extract by open preparative chromatographic column with Florisil. The versatility of this method was evidenced by its excellent linearity (> 0.999) in the concentration range between 0.2 and 4.0 mg/kg. The mean recoveries evaluated from the untreated samples spiked at two different fortification levels. 0.1 and 0.4 mg/kg, and ranged from 87.5${\pm}$0.0 to 93.3${\pm}$2.6 for the tested fruits and vegetable, respectively, and the repeatability (as relative standard deviation) from three repetitive determinations of recoveries were no larger than 6%. The calculated limit of detection was 0.02 mg/kg and the minimum detectable level of 4 ng for triflumizole was easily detected. When triflumizole was sprayed onto the apple trees three times at 50-40-30 and 40-30-21 days prior to harvesting and four times onto the pear trees at 40-30-21-14 days prior to harvesting, the mean residual amounts of 0.05 and 0.06 mg/kg for apples and pears, respectively, were not detected in all of the treatments. When the cucumber sample was fumigated four times at 7, 5, 3 and 1 day prior to harvesting, the mean residual amount was not detectable. Triflumizole can be used safely when sprayed (wettable powder, 30% active ingredient) and fumigated (10%) 4 times at 14 and 1 day prior to harvesting to protect the fruits and vegetable, respectively.

Safety operation of main pipelines is primarily provided by anticorrosive monitoring. Anticorrosive monitoring of oil pipeline transportation objects is based on results of complex corrosion inspections, analysis of basic data including design data, definition of a corrosion residual rate and diagnostic of general equipment's technical condition. All the abovementioned arrangements are regulated by normative documents. For diagnostics of corrosion-technical condition of oil pipeline transportation objects one presently uses different methods such as in-line inspection using devices with ultrasonic, magnetic or another detector, acoustic-emission diagnostics, electrometric survey, general external corrosion diagnostics and cameral processing of obtained data. Results of a complex of diagnostics give a possibility: $\cdot$ to arrange a pipeline's sectors according to a degree of corrosion danger; $\cdot$ to check up true condition of pipeline's metal; $\cdot$ to estimate technical condition and working ability of a system of anticorrosive protection. However such a control of corrosion technical condition of a main pipeline creates the appearance of estimation of a true degree of protection of an object if values of protective potential with resistive component are taken into consideration only. So in addition to corrosive technical diagnostics one must define a true residual corrosion rate taking into account protective action of electrochemical protection and true protection of a pipeline one must at times. Realized anticorrosive monitoring enables to take a reasonable decision about further operation of objects according to objects' residual life, variation of operation parameters, repair and dismantlement of objects.
Understanding of chemical composition and energy contents in tree is important to develope strategies of renewable energy policy to cope with climate change. Residual biomass as renewable energy source was evaluated and focused on the bark-containing branches. Chemical analysis studies were conducted for different part of yellow poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera), which were partitioned to inner bark, outer bark, small branches, medium branches, big branches and trunk. The variations in hydrophobic extractives, hydrophilic extractives, lignin, carbohydrate compositions, energy contents (higher heating value) and the ash content were determined. The inner and outer bark had higher ash content, hydrophobic and hydrophilic extractives content, and higher energy content than those of tree trunk. Polysaccharides content in inner and outer bark was quite lower than those of stem or branches. Based on the energy content of residual biomass, replacement of fossil fuel and greenhouse gas emission abatement were calculated.

The object of this study considers corrosion fatigue improvement of 7075-T6 aluminum by using shot peening treatment on 3.5% NaCl solution at room temperature. Aluminum alloy is generally used in aerospace structural components because of the light weight and high strength characteristics. Many studies have shown that an aluminum alloy can be approximately 50% lighter than other materials. Mostly, corrosion leads to earlier fatigue crack propagation under tensile conditions and severely reduces the life of structures. Therefore, the technique to improve material resistance to corrosion fatigue is required. Shot peening technology is widely used to improve fatigue life and other mechanical properties by induced compressive residual stress. Even the roughness of treated surface causes pitting corrosion, the compressive residual stress, which is induced under the surface layer of material by shot peening, suppresses the corrosion and increases the corrosion resistance. The experimental results for shot peened specimens were compared with previous work for non treated aluminum alloy. The results show that the shot peening treatment affects the corrosion fatigue improvement of aluminum alloys and the induced compressive residual stress by shot peening treatment improves the resistance to corrosion fatigue.
For an accurate risk assessment of furan, a potential human carcinogen, levels must be determined in human blood plasma using a simple and robust assay. In this study, solid phase microextraction-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (SPME-GC/MS) was used to analyze blood plasma levels of furan in 100 healthy individuals who consumed a normal diet. The subjects were 30 to 70 years of age and 51% were women. Ultimately, an analytical method was established for analyzing furan in human blood. The limit of quantification (LOQ) and furan recovery rate in blood were 1.0 ppb and 104%, respectively. Finally, furan was detected in 21 individuals (13 males, 8 females) with levels ranging up to 17.86 ppb (ng furan/g food).
We manufactured the long fiber-reinforced thermoplastic prototype of under cover using in-line compounding technology, and investigated the formability, mechanical properties and durability of the prototype of under cover. We manufactured the injection mold for the prototype through injection molding analysis and consideration of weight reduction. We investigated the formability of the prototype by evaluating the residual length and dispersion of fiber, and also tested the mechanical properties such as flexural strength, stiffness and impact strength. We investigated the durability of the prototype by the Key-Life Test(KLT) method which is generally used for the automotive interior parts.

Predicting residual strength of corroded plates is of crucial importance for service life estimation of aged structures. A series of nonlinear finite element method is employed for ultimate strength analysis of stiffened plates with pitting corrosion. Influential parameters, including plate thickness, type and size of stiffeners, pit depth and degree of pitting are varied and more than 208 finite element models are analyzed. It is found that ultimate strength is reduced by increasing pit depth to thickness ratio. Thin and intermediate plates have minimum and maximum reduction of ultimate strength with stronger stiffeners, respectively. In weak stiffener, reduction of ultimate strength in thin and intermediate plates depends on DOP. Reduction of ultimate strength in thick plates depends on thickness of plate and DOP. For intermediate plates, reduction for all stiffeners regardless of shape and size are the same.
