Technology Opportunity Discovery Based on Firms' Technologies and Products (기업의 보유 기술 및 제품에 기반한 기술기회발굴)

  • Technology opportunity discovery (TOD) based on technological capability is a process which identifies new product and technology items that can be developed by utilizing or improving a firm's existing products or technologies. By taking into consideration the investment risk of R&D and its practicality, developing technological capability-based TOD methodology is considered to be important for both business and research. To this end, we propose a technological capability-based TOD method and its system using TOD knowledge base. The method can support four types of TOD cases, which are based on a firm's existing technologies and products, and TOD knowledge base is developed by using function information extracted from patent documents. In this paper, we introduce the overall framework of the method and provide application examples on the four TOD cases using the prototype system.

  • This study primarily focused on the opportunity realization process of a korean venture firm based on university. This research examined the relationship between entrepreneurial intent and organizational learning produced in a sustainable opportunity realization process with technology/market domain shifts. Therefore, this research explores the determinants of sustainable growth of a venture firm at the organizational level and suggests optimal solutions for promoting entrepreneurial intent and opportunity realization for many entrepreneurs. The results showed that CEO's entrepreneurial intent is a key driving factor that can positive impacts on opportunity recognition and organizational learning based on university's expertise. Furthermore, the orientation of a entrepreneur can affect venture's technology/market domain shift through the advanced technological knowledge of university. In conclusion, this research sheds light on the growth of a venture firm based on university suggesting more customized solutions for many entrepreneurs. Implications for the results and the future directions are discussed.

  • The CF(Counter-fire) is neutralizing enemy's all command control systems and fire support elements. It will weaken a battle continuous ability and an intension to fight. At the beginning of the CF is obtaining locations of targets using various detection assets. CF command center processes acquired target information and send it to attacking equipments. The targets are classified into two classes, preplanned target and target of opportunity The target of opportunity is potential threaten, so it needs to take a immediate and exact process for determining location of target of opportunity. This paper proposes the real-time processing algorithm for offensive weapons to strike target of opportunity, and presents the result of its performance.

  • This paper proposes an R&D opportunity scan framework for information and telecommunications company in aging society. The framework consists of trend analysis, market-oriented search, technology-oriented search, and R&D Portfolio development. We identify technology themes in the market-oriented search by developing market scenarios and analyzing a new business model framework. And then we search prospective technologies in the technology-oriented recess by technology scanning and patent analysis. By matching technology themes with prospective technologies, generate an R&D portfolio. Finally, we evaluate the risk of the proposed R&D portfolio.

  • We consider a consumption and investment problem where an investor's investment opportunity gets enlarged when she becomes rich enough, i.e., when her wealth touches a critical level. We derive optimal consumption and investment rules assuming that the investor has a time-separable von Neumann-Morgenstern utility function. An interesting feature of optimal rules is that the investor consumes less and takes more risk in risky assets if the investor expects that she will have a better investment opportunity when her wealth reaches a critical level.

  • The aim of this research is to investigate the difference in the capturing opportunities for each type of venture companies in the industry undergoing competition of a dominant design and then figure out the reason why they can be successful. Existing studies on venture companies are focused on the way to enhance a firm's competencies by acquiring and combining its resources. However, it is important for startups which have a lack of resources and capabilities to capture the opportunity to survive by understanding a changing environment. This study is focused on opportunity capture and strategic response to a changing environment and attempts to select and observe startup companies which are able to capture the opportunity and enter the market in the industry undergoing dominant design competition. In order to find out its difference in different types of business, we select one case from hardware startups and the other from software startups. According to the result of this study, the hardware startup focuses on market extension by lowering their prices and the software startup strives to induce more users to participate by the universalization of enabling technology so as to extend and standardize their technology in the environment undergoing dominant design competition. This feature of environment leads the difference in the approach for successfully capturing opportunity and thus hardware firms need to recognize the opportunity with profit potential from relationship with a number of cooperative firms while software firms need to identify the opportunity for extension of enabling technology which can be used by many users.

An Opportunity-based Age Replacement Policy with Warranty Analysed by Using TTT-Transforms

  • In a recent paper Iskandar & Sandoh (1999) studied an opportunity-based age replacement policy for a system which has a warranty period (0,S]. When the system fails at age x $\leq$ S a minimal repair is performed. If an opportunity occurs to the system at age x, S $\leq$ x $\leq$ T, we take the opportunity with probability p to preventively replace the system, while we conduct a corrective .replacement when its fails in (S,T). Finally, if its age reaches T, we perform a preventive replacement, Under this policy the design variable is T. For the case when opportunities occur according to a homogeneous Poisson process, the long-run average cost of this policy was formulated and studied analytically by Iskandar & Sandoh (1999). The same problem is here analysed by using a graphical technique based on scaled TTT-transforms. This technique gives, among other things, excellent possibilities for different types of sensitivity analysis. We also extend the discussion to the situation when we have to estimate T based on times to failure.

  • After the IMF jurisdiction period, the Korean economy experienced a venture boom. Korean venture enterprises had been recognized that high profitable and high technology capacity based. These ventures also have contributed to national added value tolerably. In particular, Korean information technology (IT) venture companies got away the order of economy concentrated big companies, which were taken the opportunity of new economy to make suggestion of the future courses and to open an e-Korea era. However, IT ventures firms or dotcom enterprises have had difficulties through sinking down their bubbles and slumping technology sector from the first half of the 2000. In consideration of Korea IT venture companies' conditions, Korean government introduce new national vision in order to go ahead of intelligence based society form knowledge based. Korea is planning new investment to meet with the challenge of globalization proactively by national band named u-Korea. As following a step in IT infrastructure, it will give Korean IT ventures new demand creative technologies and services by new technological windows of opportunity. This situation is expected that will become an economic take-off. This paper will look for the way to stimulate Korean IT ventures' competence and present new frontier of IT ventures turnaround.

  • Information technology is rapidly diffused throughout the world. Unfortunately, as the technology goes on the disabled vocational rehabilitation is more isolated in physically and mentally. A new paradigm, 'Digital practical use Opportunity' is a product of the tremendous technological changes driving the disabled vocational rehabilitation. The employment for the disabled vocational rehabilitation is a hot issue. Because lack of education rehabilitation cause many problems for the employer. Relating program of employment and education for the disabled vocational rehabilitation, they can get a job in a better condition. This study propose a model of good environmental employment for the disabled vocational providing them the way of getting a job so that they can go as a member of highly developed society. It conducted in society could fundamentally advance our knowledge about the structure of the employment of the disabled vocational rehabilitation, cure their feelings, give them a chance to live happier, stronger, healthier.

  • In this paper, we have designed a deployment process system that extract and integrate information related to technology and market opportunities through searching for external environment and internal condition on multi-dimensional space in order to generate new research themes. It is expected that this theme extraction model could be contributed to the maximization of R&D productivity by systemization of the opportunity extraction process for generating research themes in R&D center or laboratory.
