  • This study analyzes the business performance of research and development(R&D) and especially studies the effect of technology management activity and technology innovation competency on commercialization performance. According to previous studies, the technology management activity can be composed of technological innovativeness, analysis of market, R&D method, and appropriateness for commercialization plan. Also, the technology innovation can be divided into patent, R&D manpower, R&D investment ratio, production capability, and marketing capability. On the result of the analysis, all the components of technology management activity are positively related with commercialization performance. In case of technology innovation competency, however, only production and marketing capabilities have influence on the business performance. Especially, marketing capability controls the effect of technology management activities on the commercialization performance. Consequently, technology management is very important activity for SMEs to succeed commercialization and SMEs should collaborate with production and marketing departments from the early stage of R&D.

  • This study aims to develop strategic diagnosis framework of performance by identifying and analysing the dynamics of the technology commercialization ecosystem in innovative region. To achieve the purpose of this study, the systems thinking approach is used. The systems thinking approach connects feedback structure and behavior more explicitly to diagnosis vicious feedback loop in the regional technology commercialization ecosystem. In terms of an ecological point of view, it will be possible to explore dominant feedback structure and find leverages to overcome the limitations of regional technology commercialization performance. The diagnosis of reenforcing and balancing feedback structure is based on the statistical analysis of the survey data which has been collected in a cluster random sampling method, targeting on the 200 firm located in the Pangyo and Daeduk region. The results from this research showed that the regional technology commercialization ecosystem was immature and faced limit to the growth. An important finding of this study was that regional technology commercialization ecosystem need to activation of startups and reinforcement of virtuous feedback structures of technology commercialization market systems.

  • This study assesses the structure relationships between resource, product and process innovation capability, technology commercialization competence and performance of firms in Daedeok Innopolis. In particular, this study attempts to analyze technology commercialization competence that may be influenced by product and process capabilities. The development of the research model is based on the literature of resource-based view and the empirical studies of technology commercialization competence. The survey of 109 firms was conducted from January 5, 2015 through February 4, 2015. We investigate the role of a firm's technology commercialization competence in determining its performance by performing Partial Least Squares analysis. The results indicate that a firm's human resources and intangible resources lead to a higher level of its product and process innovation capabilities. This study, however, finds that a firm's tangible resources do not have significant effects on its product and process innovation capabilities. And the study finds evidence that firm's product and process capabilities have positive effects on its technology commercialization competence. The study also finds that a firm's technology commercialization competence is a driving force behind its performance, showing that its technology commercialization competence positively involves its performance. In addition the study finds that technology commercialization competence mediates the relationship between a firm's innovation capability and performance, indicating that the technology commercialization used as mediating variable positively affects its innovation performance.

The purpose was to identify the impact of technological innovation activities, divided into process innovation and product innovation, on financial and non-financial performance, and to clarify the role of technology commercialization capability. An online survey was conducted with 300 companies from April to May 2024, and the results were analyzed using SPSS 29.0 and Process macro. The results showed that technological innovation had a positive effect on both non-financial and financial performance of the company. In addition, it was confirmed that the higher the technology commercialization capability, the stronger the impact of technological innovation on non-financial performance. However, technology commercialization capability did not significantly moderate the relationship between technological innovation and financial performance. This study empirically demonstrated the importance of technology commercialization capability in the relationship between technological innovation and corporate performance, and is expected to provide useful implications for establishing corporate technology innovation strategies and developing policies in the future.
