  • This paper analyzes the price movements and the possibility of delisting by research and development intensity of firm which made technological innovation disclosure in the Korean stock market. The sample consists of firms listed on the KRX which made technological information disclosure between January 2002 and December 2014. The results are summarized as follows. The higher R&D intensity is observed for the delisted firms group. The logit regression result shows that the research and development intensity is a significant predictor of the possibility of delisting. This shows that exposure to the risk of delisting may increase as the proportion and uncertainty of intangible assets in the assets of individual firms increases. This empirical result is expected to serve as a good guide line for the stakeholders.

  • Although the impact of technological partner selection on the success of technological alliance is critical, little attention has been paid to the area of technological alliance partner selection criteria and the relationship between partner selection criteria and success factors of alliance. This study bridges this gap by understanding previous studies of general alliance partner selection criteria such as marketing, international, logistics and production alliances. I drew technological alliance partner selection criteria using AHP method with 12 experts who are currently in charge of technological alliance activities at Korean Venture Companies. This study found 4 criteria such as 'task-related', 'partner-related', 'learning-related', 'risk-related' criteria with 14 items and the relative importance of technological alliance partner selection showed as follows: 'risk-related', 'learning-related', 'partner-related', 'task-related' criteria. In order to test the relationship between technological partner selection criteria and performance, I used 215 survey data of Korean Venture Companies. The results showed that 'partner-related' and 'task-related' criteria had strong positive impacts on the success of technological alliance. Further, I put 4 moderating variables into the study model in order to see their moderating effects. However, no moderating variable showed significant effects. In conclusion section, I discussed the findings and implications of this study and directions for future studies.

  • This study was conducted to examine how independent audit firms in Vietnam understand and use risk based audit approach (RBAA) in audit practice. To answer the research questions, the researchers used primary and secondary data collected from 2018 to 2019. The results from the interview survey showed that audit firms were aware of the advantages of adopting RBAA. However, RBAA is practiced to a moderate extent by audit firms in Vietnam. Big 4 audit firms use RBAA more popularly than Non-Big 4 audit firms. The causes of the difference are the disadvantages of adopting RBAA and client's characteristics such as relevant guideline, audit fees, auditors' knowledge and experience. Besides, the study investigated factors impacting on the RBAA adoption by distributing a questionnaire to 246 auditors of 126 audit firms in Vietnam. A set of statistical appropriate methods where used through SPSS software version 22.0. The results indicated that there were six factors influencing RBAA adoption including: Auditor's ability, Technological development, Audit fees, auditors' motivation, Audit time and client's risk. Of which, auditor's ability and technological development are factors that have the most significant and positive impacts on the adoption of RBAA. Additional implications were argued in the final section of this study.

  • This paper has discussed several issues regarding the barriers and opportunities for technological catch-up by the late-comer countries and firms. As one of the barriers to technological catch-up, the paper emphasizes the uncertainty involved with the third stage of learning how to design. The barriers arise because as the forerunner firms refuse to sell or give license to successful catching-up firms who thus have to design the product by themselves. The paper discusses how to overcome this barrier. It also notes that if the crisis of design technology is a push factor for leapfrogging, arrival of new techno-economic paradigm can serve as a pull factor for leapfrogging, serving as a winder of opportunity. The, it emphasized the two risks with leapfrogging, namely the risk of choosing right technology or standards and the risk of creating initial markets, and how to overcome these risks. It discusses how to overcome these risks in leapfrogging, and differentiates diverse forms of knowledge accesses. Then, the paper takes up the issue of whether there can be a single common or several models for catch-up. A common element of catching-up is to enter new markets segments quickly, to manufacture with high levels of engineering excellence, and to be first-to-market by means of the best integrative designs. This observation is supported by the fact that Korea and Taiwan has achieved higher levels of technological capabilities in such sectors as featured by short cycle time of technology. The possibility of two alternative models for catch-up is also discussed in terms of the key difference between Korean and Taiwan, especially in the position toward the source of foreign knowledge and the paths taken toward the final goal of OBM. Taiwan followed the sequential steps of OEM, ODM and OBN, in collaboration or integration with the MNCs. Korean chaebols jumped from OEM directly to OBM even without consolidating design technology.

  • An insider threat is a threat that comes from people within the organization being attacked. It can be described as a function of the motivation, opportunity, and capability of the insider. Compared to managing the dimensions of opportunity and capability, assessing one's motivation in committing malicious acts poses more challenges to organizations because it usually involves a more obtrusive process of psychological examination. The existing body of research in psycholinguistics suggests that automated text analysis of electronic communications can be an alternative for predicting and detecting insider threat through unobtrusive behavior monitoring. However, a major challenge in employing this approach is that it is difficult to minimize the risk of missing any potential threat while maintaining an acceptable false alarm rate. To deal with the trade-off between the risk of missed catches and the false alarm rate, we propose a unified psycholinguistic framework that consolidates multiple text analyzers to carry out sentiment analysis, emotion analysis, and topic modeling on electronic communications for unobtrusive psychological assessment. The user scenarios presented in this paper demonstrated how the trade-off issue can be attenuated with different text analyzers working collaboratively to provide more comprehensive summaries of users' psychological states.

  • As the speed of technological changes increase with the investment requirements steadily expanding, private firms and government-funded research institutes experience similar pressures with respect to the necessity of risk reduction and technological alliances in R&D activities. This paper first attempts to review previous research in managing R&D projects with large, risky, and long-term investment requirements. Our primary focus is placed on the "fuzzy front-end" (FFE) projects with uncertainties at the investigation and planning stages. We analyze various elements that create FFE conditions, classify them into basic constructs, and suggest tools and methods to deal with FFE conditions. The findings suggest that both initial FFE conditions and the effectiveness of FFE management affect the performance of the project later on, and thus, especially for large projects, we must deal with FFE seriously in a comprehensive manner. We utilize in-depth panel interviews and case studies to approach the research questions.

  • Cases of botched information systems implementation have been surfaced due to poor IS project management and control. One major source of such failures is the perceptual difference between the participants of IS projects who should define potential risk factors well before considered IS projects are launched. Based on risk factors cited from prior works, this paper empirically examines the risk factors associated with IS service project management to analyze perceptual differences between the IS service providers and customers in Korea. Data analyses found significant differences in the area of scheduling/resource, technological newness, communications, and sponsorship/ownership while statistically significant differences were observed in eleven individual factors out of forty six risk factors. Risk factors are also ordered in terms of perceived importance to highlight the critical differences.

  • This paper examines the gap between the theoretical premises of, and the ways that public deliberative approaches to decision-making function in application to a specific instance of technological risk policy. An interrogation of a UK nationwide public deliberation case-the CoRWM program (Committee on Radioactive Waste Management)-a real-world instance of public deliberation illuminates some significant contrasts in the ways that public deliberation takes place to those characterized in theory. A public-engaged deliberation on radioactive waste management in reality does not emerge as rational reasoning for the common good. Instead, it was rather a complex mix of various forms of material, social and political interactions, and relationships.

  • The research analysis will be proceeded with a specific question: The kind of endeavors the ICT providers must focus on within the ICT industry's Schumpeterian pattern of using barriers of knowledge during the rapid technological transformation and pursuing appropriability of guaranteed opportunities. The study was carried out by targeting and conducting empirical observations on the proliferation of technological patent applications made by ICT companies among approximately 5,700 listed North American corporations. The risk of arising cases, in which late-coming non-ICT companies adopt and participate in the technical pertinence and concept derived from the technological advent, will be treated as an independent variable in a survival analysis. Through this analysis, innovative technological attempts and absorption capabilities indicate significance.
