A Study on Accelerating Service Economy by the 4th Industrial Revolution (4차 산업혁명의 서비스경제화 촉진 연구)

  • The current research suggests a new industry and employment structure accelerated by the 4th industrial revolution. An in-depth analysis on relevant researches and a macro analysis on industry and employment structure change have been performed. Past and present industrial revolutions have been reviewed based on the nature of employment and industry structure. With technological advances and increase in productivity, the services industry has developed during the 1st and 2nd industrial revolutions. Moreover, in the 4th industrial revolution era, more changes are expected within the services industry. A new U-model has been derived and a service economy acceleration model has been suggested. This research can be used for deriving desirable industry and economic policy. Future research is needed to develop a detailed solution for human resource management strategy for service economy in the 4th industrial revolution era.

  • A systematic support system that develops technology support policies for SMEs (Small and Medium sized Enterprises) and solves technical problems faced by SMEs will increase the productivity and competitiveness of SMEs. To this end, it is necessary to identify the types and level of technology required for SMEs, and to find ways to utilize the technologies possessed by government-funded research institutes leading technology development. It is important to develop a new production technology and to establish a cooperation system between SMEs and government- funded research institutes to solve various pending problems.

  • In recent years, the demand for green buildings is growing fast due to legislative and social pressures. Construction organizations, which play an important role in promoting building industry growth, are facing with challenges on how to adapt themselves to enhance sustainability of the buildings. In this paper, the green value chain and system frameworks, an extend application of Porter's value chain and system models, are introduced. Based on deep analysis of the green value chain and system frameworks, a revolution model for construction organizations towards green building is created. Management factors critical for a successful green building project, at the firm and project organization level, are extracted. Furthermore, external critical relationships are also identified. Fully understanding of these management factors and the model can help and enable practitioner to know what new capabilities should be deployed and developed in the long run for maximizing sustainability.

  • In the Fourth Industrial Revolution era, with its accelerating radical changes and innovation, fashion is rapidly advancing to sustain social changes introduced by technological convergence. In light of this, the study investigates the social and cultural characteristics of technologizing fashion products: creative modifications emerge from technological convergence with fashion products and result in a realm separate from technology. By focusing on the nature of fashion, this study analyzes the technologization of fashion products for added value creation in the fashion system. Based on the findings, it interprets different attitudes toward technologizing that changes fashion products. Accordingly, this study reviews previous literature and qualitatively examines empirical cases based on inductive reasoning. In particular, it analyzes commercialized cases of fashion-technology convergence in fashion products found on online fashion media outlets between January 2007 and May 2021, a central period in intellectual and technological innovation. The characteristics of technologized fashion products are identified as follows: expansion of physical functions and categories, interaction with emotional sensibilities, artistry through combination with technologies, and computer-generated imagery(CGI) fashion as digital goods. Therefore, this study analyzes the characteristics of technologization, focusing on the social and cultural properties of fashion products. The findings provide opportunities to understand the paradigm shift of these products that was catalyzed by technologizing.

  • Recent information and communication technologies have already opened up new prospects for technology groups, especially in a knowledge-based society. A contemporary technological era, which can be stated as the hyper-connective Internet of Things surpassed the traditional service pattern and innovation pattern by conveying personalized, localized, and con-text-aware services close to different actors and users. The conventional boundary of the organization is disbanding as well as traditional innovation and research & development limits. This research article conducts a preliminary study about the hyper-connective Internet of Things technology portent with innovation 3.0 version based on an extended technological organization environment framework (E-TOEF). This article discusses the emergence of innovation 3.0 as a paradigm shift from a manufacturing paradigm to an actor-oriented paradigm. There is a need to shift from a manufacturing mindset to more user ergonomics and be aware of the potential of hyper-connective IoT on the revolution of innovation patterns to be more cooperative, open, and user-centered. Besides, this article would strain some conceptual approaches for the next-generation innovation paradigm known as "hyper-connective IoT" entitled innovation 3.0. This new innovation version goes beyond open innovation and undeniably clearly beyond closed innovation which was an earlier version.

  • 사람의 역할을 대신하기 위해 등장한 무인기는 최근 취미용 드론의 발달과 함께 다양한 분야로 확산되어, 기계가 인간을 대체하는 4차 산업혁명의 한 축을 담당하고 있다. 그리고 4차 산업 혁명에 따른 지능화, 자율화는 드론의 능력과 확장성을 향상시켜 다시 드론의 발달과 확산을 강화하고 있다. 전자 및 SW 등 드론 산업 외부에서 진행된 기술혁신의 결과가 드론의 자율비행 및 자료 분석, 활용 등 드론의 발전을 선도하고 있다. 따라서 드론 분야의 발전을 위해서 타 산업 분야의 혁신 결과가 쉽고 빠르게 반영될 수 있도록 보다 개방적이고 유연한 연구개발/산업화 구조를 구축할 필요가 있다.

  • The Army, which is dreaming of a military leap forward through the fourth industrial revolution, needs to also consider the side effects and adverse functions of the fourth industrial revolution. In particular, this study conducted an analysis of whether it was consistent with the global technological trend of normal 'military security'. This paper focuses on the countermeasures that could result from 4th industrial revolution by utilizing the text-mining technique and social network technique of big data. 1. Solar Photovoltaics Technology: No longer an Outlier

  • The prospects of current and coming solar-photovoltaic (PV) technologies are envisioned, arguing this solar-electricity source is beyond a tipping point in the complex worldwide energy outlook. Truly, a revolution in both the technological advancements of solar PV and the deployment of this energy technology is underway; PV is no longer an outlier. The birth of modern photovoltaics (PV) traces only to the mid-1950s, with the Bell Telephone Laboratories' development of an efficient, single-crystal Si solar cell. Since then, Si has dominated the technology and the markets, from space through terrestrial applications. Recently, some significant shift toward technology diversity have taken place. Some focus of this presentation will be directed toward PV R&D and technology advances, with indications of the limitations and relative strengths of crystalline (Si and GaAs) and thin-film (a-Si:H, Si, Cu(In,Ga)(Se,S)2, CdTe). Recent advances, contributions, industry growth, and technological pathways for transformational now and near-term technologies (Si and primarily thin films) and status and forecasts for next-generation PV (nanotechnologies and non-conventional and "new-physics" approaches) are evaluated. The need for R&D accelerating the now and imminent (evolutionary) technologies balanced with work in mid-term (disruptive) approaches is highlighted. Moreover, technology progress and ownership for next generation solar PV mandates a balanced investment in research on longer-term (the revolution needs revolutionary approaches to sustain itself) technologies (quantum dots, multi-multijunctions, intermediate-band concepts, nanotubes, bio-inspired, thermophotonics, ${\ldots}$ and solar hydrogen) having high-risk, but extremely high performance and cost returns for our next generations of energy consumers. This presentation provides insights to the reasons for PV technology emergence, how these technologies have to be developed (an appreciation of the history of solar PV)-and where we can expect to be by this mid-21st century.

Implications and Roles of Blockchain for Smart City (스마트도시에서 블록체인이 갖는 함의와 그 역할)

  • Modern cities are changing to 'smart cities' dramatically with the introduction and development of the fourth industrial revolution technologies. Among these technologies blockchain is unique because it not only embraces technological innovation but also societal revolution. Therefore, blockchain is expected to play a pivotal role for contributing comprehensive development of smart city. The current research and policy atmosphere in Korea, however, is that blockchain is just a new technology and its broader impacts are overlooked. This study argues that blockchain has significant effects on smart cities not only from technological perspectives but also from social, economic, institutional, governmental perspectives. Further, this study suggests three categories that blockchain can help the development of smart city: technology, socio-economic, and governance, with examples of existing blockchin projects. However, these projects have been builting separately without any interaction under the common hood of 'smart city'. To emhance influences of blockchain on smart cities in positive ways, private companies, policy maker, and citizend are supposed to consider and discuss about publi sector's blockchain that is commonly used in at the smart city level.

  • Over the last few decades, various innovative technologies have emerged that have significantly contributed to making life easier for humans. Various information and communication technologies (ITCs) have emerged as a result of the global technological revolution, including big data, IoT, 4G and 5G networks, cloud computing, mobile computing, and artificial intelligence. These technologies have been adopted in urban planning and development, which gave rise to the concept of smart cities in the 1990s. A smart city is a type of city that uses ITCs to exchange and share information to enhance the quality of services for its citizens. With the global population increasing at unprecedented levels, cities are overwhelmed with a myriad of challenges, such as the energy crisis, environmental pollution, sanitation and sewage challenges, and water quality issues, and therefore, have become a convergence point of economic, social, and environmental risks. The concept of a smart city is a multidisciplinary, unified approach that has been adopted by governments and municipalities worldwide to overcome these challenges. Though challenging, this transformation is essential for cities with differing technological and social features, which all have the potential to determine the success or failure of the digital transformation of cities into smart cities. In recent years, researchers, businesses, and the government have all turned their attention to the emerging field of smart cities. Accordingly, this paper aims to represent a thorough understanding of the movement toward smart cities. The key themes identified are smart city definitions and concepts, smart city dimensions, and smart city architecture of different layers. Furthermore, this article discusses the challenges and some examples of smart cities.
