Despite its theoretically and practically important value, the concept of technological innovation orientation has not been theoretically well established and thus has not been operationalized appropriately in previous studies. Given such a gap in prior research regarding technological innovation orientation, this study proposed a refined conceptualization of technological innovation orientation and a new measurement instrument for capturing the refined concept of technological innovation orientation. More specifically, this study conceptualized technological innovation orientation as having two components of proclivity to technological leadership and openness to technological innovation and developed a measurement instrument for operationalizing the two-dimensional concept of technological innovation orientation. Based on the proposed conceptualization and operationalization of technological innovation orientation, this study also investigated the relationship between technological innovation orientation and firm performance. Based on a sample of 97 Korean IT SMEs, the results demonstrated a high reliability and validity for the measurement instrument developed to operationalize the two-dimensional technological innovation orientation. The results further revealed that technological innovation orientation is positively related to technological innovation performance and that technological innovation performance positively mediates the relationship between technological innovation orientation and financial performance.

Although the technological innovation activities have depended on corporate, organizational and personal capabilities and activities, innovation resistance to practice was not actively considered in previous studies. This study is intended to the effects of corporate technology innovation capabilities and activities on intra-organizational innovation resistance and performance by compensating the limit of previous studies. To achieve this, a survey was empirically carried out to 293 domestic IT and BT companies. First, technological innovation competencies had a positive effect on technological innovation resistance, adopting hypothesis 1. Second, technological innovation activities had no positive effect on technological innovation resistance, rejecting hypothesis 2. Third, technological innovation resistance had a positive effect on technological innovation performance, adopting hypothesis 3. Fourth, technological innovation resistance was positively mediated in the relationship between technological innovation competencies and technological innovation performance, adopting hypothesis 4. Fifth, technological innovation resistance was not positively mediated in the relationship between technological innovation activities and technological innovation performance, rejecting hypothesis 5. Overall, the higher technological innovation competencies had a significant effect on technological innovation resistance. Consequently, technological innovation resistance can improve or reduce technological innovation competencies and performance depending on the level of resistance.
The purposes of this study were to investigate the level of technological collaboration and technological innovation, and to analyze the effects of these variables on performance of textile and clothing companies. The data were collected from participants of Preview in Daegu Exhibition and Seoul Fashion Sourcing Fair as well as a panel on the Research Institute. The results showed that the numbers of technological collaboration and technological innovation were relatively low but the level of technological collaboration was slightly high. The regression analyses indicated that technological collaboration had a significant effect but technological innovation didn't have a significant effect on company performance. However, these two variables had significant effects on innovation performance.
It seems required to determine what might affect the technological innovation activities of manufacturing companies and what kind of role they could play for them to carry out technological innovation activities in an effective way. The objective of the present study is thus to conduct a depth empirical analysis of the structural relations among business environment, technological innovation activities and performance of manufacturing companies. From the analysis, following outcomes could be drawn: First, with regard to the relationship between business environment and technological innovation activities of manufacturing companies, it has become clear that the external environment is a factor that can influence technological innovation activities such as management of technical property, technological innovation system as well as technical network, while it exercises no impact upon adaptation of manufacturers to new technologies. The internal environment, on the other hand, turns out to have influence on such overall factors of technological innovation activities as management of technical property, technological innovation system, adaptation to new technologies and technical network; and Second, as for the relationship between technological innovation activities and their performance, it has been obvious that management of technical property and technological innovation system, both factors of technological innovation activities, affect the performance of product development and financial achievements of manufacturing companies. Their adaptation to new technologies will also affect their performance of product development as well as financial achievements. These findings suggest that it is important for manufacturing companies to set up an operating system that may be able to upgrade the practical applicability of their technological development activities in an attempt to promote performance of their technological innovation activities.
This study was aimed at analyzing the structural relationship among such factors as industrial environment, technological cooperation, technological innovation performance and management performance that are essential to technological innovation of small and medium-sized companies. For this aim, an analysis was conducted to determine which of the factors in industrial environment has impact on technological cooperation of small and medium-sized companies. An empirical analysis was also performance to find what kind of effects the technological cooperation may have on technological innovation and management performance. From the analyses, it became known that: first, changes in industrial environment have influence on technical cooperation factors including production technology, technical information, technical manpower and fund for technology that are assorted by means of factorial analysis; second, the technological cooperation of small and medium-sized companies has impact on their technological innovation performance; and third, the technological cooperation of small and medium-sized companies has impact on management performance.
The business environment of today's small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises (SMEs) has a tendency to shorten the product life cycle due to the rapid technological change. Therefore, in this study, an empirical study was conducted to understand the influence of CEO type and technological innovation capability on management performance through technological innovation performance as a medium. The subject of the study was a survey focusing on executive level and above of small and medium-sized manufacturing companies in the southeast region, and the research results are as follows. Overall, it was verified that the structural causal relationship between the technological innovation performance and the management performance of the CEO type and technological innovation capability of small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises is a relationship that has a significant influence with mutual correlation. These results indicate that higher performance can be achieved when technological innovation performance is combined with the effect of technological innovation capability on management performance according to CEO type. In this way, SMEs are trying to present the need for various innovative activities to discover excellent technologies and acquire competence, and to suggest a development direction that requires efforts to improve the technological competitiveness of enterprises.
This paper analyses how technological capabilities and entrepreneurship of technology-based start-ups affect their performance. In this paper, a multiple regression analysis was conducted on 248 technology-based start-ups. The effects of indicators of technological capacity like R&D intensity, R&D organization, technology competitiveness, patents, and certification were analyzed. Factors affecting sales were R&D intensity and technological competitiveness. Technology competitiveness and patents were the significant factors influencing product competitiveness. The factor that positively influenced organizational performance, customer performance, and achievement of start-up goals was technological competitiveness. The results of such an analysis should be designed to discover and foster long-term innovation potential, rather than relying on short-term financial performance.
The importance of technological innovation orientation, which denotes the firm's general direction of thought toward steadily pursuing and promoting technological innovation in the long run for its viability and competitiveness, is on the rise. Although the technological innovation orientation has conceptually and practically important implications for securing the firm's sustainable competitive advantage, to date there has been limited research systematically analyzing the role of the technological innovation orientation for the firm's successful technological innovation and performance. Recognizing such deficiency in previous research regarding technological innovation orientation, this study selected internal and external critical factors which might affect the technological innovation orientation, and proposed and empirically examined a research model and hypotheses demonstrating the contingency relationships among the antecedent factors, technological innovation orientation and technological innovation performance. In the proposed research model, the selected antecedents of technological innovation orientation included two internal factors of CEO's technical-function experience and cross-functional integration and two external factors of environmental uncertainty and intensity of competition, and eventually it was suggested that these antecedent factors affected the firm's technological innovation performance via the technological innovation orientation. In addition, the research model suggested that the two environmental factors of environmental uncertainty and intensity of competition had a positive moderation effect on the relationship between technological innovation orientation and technological innovation performance. Analysis of data on sample of 86 Korean IT SMEs showed that CEO's technical-function experience, cross-functional integration and environmental uncertainty had a positive impact on the firm's technological innovation orientation and that the technological innovation orientation positively influenced the firm's technological innovation performance. The results also revealed that environmental uncertainty positively moderated the relationship between the firm's technological innovation orientation and technological innovation performance. The theoretical and practical implications for the results of this study were discussed.
Knowledge-based exporting companies in Korea have reached a stage to develop new technological innovation and to pioneer new markets. But, developing new technologies and launching new products require an enormous sum of money for Research and Development(R&D) and there is still uncertainty in technological development and markets. Therefore, through open technological innovation, they are encouraged to actively use external technological sources and ideas. They also need to enhance the efficiency of the relatively little R&D investment. In this paper, firstly, it conducts a precedent study on the concept and influence factors of knowledge-based exporting companies and open technological innovation. Secondly, it sets a study model and estimates a regression coefficient to analyze the influence factors of open technological innovation of knowledge-based exporting companies which are using external resources on the process of innovation. Through case study and empirical analysis, we are going to find the implication of open technological innovation and prepare the way of the innovation for the knowledge-based exporting companies. According to the empirical analysis, variables such as firm size, processing degree, product life, patent registration, maintaining internal security didn't have positive effects on open innovation performance. On the other hand, research capability and market preoccupancy had positive effects. Therefore, to succeed in open innovation, knowledge-based exporting companies not only need to secure research capability through open innovation, but also need to preoccupy the market through commercialization of developed product.
Entrepreneurship and innovation are highlighted as a way to overcome limitations and risk factors caused by today's uncertain business environment. As the uncertainty in the business environment increases, organizations are required to adapt to ever changing business dynamics. For this adaptation, entrepreneurship and innovation are crucial factors. This study proposes a model to explain a structural relationship between entrepreneurship, technological innovation, and innovation performance. The unit of analysis focus is small and medium-sized businesses. Empirical results show that there are positive causal relationships from entrepreneurship to technological innovation, and from technological innovation to innovation performance. Additionally, no direct relationship from entrepreneurship to innovation performance can be achieved through innovation activities such as technological innovation. This study points out the importance of entrepreneurship and technological innovation, and suggests that entrepreneurship along with technological innovation should be internalized as business practices leading to increased performance.
