The Comments of Chinese "Zhihu" Netizens on the US Sanctions Against Huawei: The Role of Anti-Western Centrism in Nationalist Narratives

  • From 2018 to 2020, the United States has repeatedly imposed sanctions on the Chinese company Huawei, which has triggered strong nationalist sentiments on the Chinese Internet. This paper is a qualitative content analysis of Zhihu netizens' views on US sanctions against Huawei to explore how anti-Western centrism influences young people's narratives. The results showed that they believe the Huawei matter is a deliberate hegemonic act by the United States because it fears the decline of its own technological status. Moreover, it is direct evidence that the United States is deliberately destroying China's economic development environment to slow down China's rise, as well as a typical manifestation of the injustice of the liberal international order. A further analysis revealed that their narrative logic is obviously influenced by the following aspects: 1) The mentality of national glory derived from comprehensive national strength leads them to believe that U.S. sanctions against Huawei are an obstacle to China's rise. 2) National humiliation leads them to view U.S. sanctions as a constant insult to China. 3) China's superiority created by China's comprehensive national strength and its scientific and technological achievements in recent years has boosted its confidence to challenge the West's absolute progress. This study examines the impact of anti-Western centrism on Chinese nationalist sentiment and offers a bottom-level perspective on the debate over the crisis of the liberal order.

  • 본 연구는 소프트웨어개발 관련 벤처기업의 국제화 성과와 기술자원간의 관계를 연구한 Zahra 등(2003)의 연구를 기반으로 소프트웨어개발 관련 벤처기업의 대표적인 경영자원 중 특히 기술관련 자원들이 우리나라 소프트웨어개발 관련 벤처기업의 국제화 성과에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 살펴보고, 이러한 기술관련 가시적 자원과 비가시적 자원의 상호작용효과가 실질적인 기업의 역량으로서 국제화 성과에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 실증적으로 검증해 보고자 하는 것이다. 분석결과, R&D 집중도로 본 기업의 가시적 기술자원은 해외진출성과에 유의한 영향을 미치지 못하는 것으로 나타났으나, 기술협력네트워크 수와 기술적 평판의 강도 등으로 살펴본 비가시적 기술자원은 해외진출성과에 정(+)의 관계를 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 가시적 기술자원과 비가시적 기술자원의 상호작용은 단일 자원요인에 비해 해외진출성과에 보다 많은 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 분석결과는 소프트웨어개발 관련 벤처기업의 차별적이고 뛰어난 기술역량은 해외 현지국의 다양한 협력 또는 제휴관계나 자신이 보유하고 있는 기술적 평판 등 비가시적 기술자원에 의해 보다 폭 넓게 활용될 경우 높은 해외진출성과와 밀접한 관련성을 가지게 됨을 보여주는 결과라 할 수 있다.

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) is to assumed to be one of next generation technology which determine technological competitiveness and strategic advantage of a certain country. By using the patent data, this study aims to have a comparative analysis of the technological competitiveness of evolving artificial intelligence at different stages of development among the five largest intellectual property offices in the world (IP5). For the analysis data, all AI technology patent data from 1956 to 2019 were utilized according to the classification system presented in the "WIPO 2019 Technology Trend: Artificial Intelligence" report published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2019. The results shows that China has already surpassed the United States in terms of the number of patent applications in the field of artificial intelligence technology. However, in the domains of the United States, Europe, Japan, and Korea, the technology competitiveness of the United States is far ahead of China. Interestingly, the rate of increase of Korea's technology competitiveness is also very fast, and it has been shown that the technology strength is ahead of China in non-Chinese domains. The significance of this study can be found in the fact that the temporal and spatial change process of technological competitiveness of significant countries in the field of artificial intelligence technology artificial intelligence was viewed as a macro-framework using the technology index (TS) the differences were compared.

Durability Properties and Microstructure of Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag Cement Concrete

  • Ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) is a green construction material used to produce durable concrete. The secondary pozzolanic reactions can result in reduced pore connectivity; therefore, replacing partial amount of Portland cement (PC) with GGBS can significantly reduce the risk of sulfate attack, alkali-silica reactions and chloride penetration. However, it may also reduce the concrete resistance against carbonation. Due to the time consuming process of concrete carbonation, many researchers have used accelerated carbonation test to shorten the experimental time. However, there are always some uncertainties in the accelerated carbonation test results. Most importantly, the moisture content and moisture profile of the concrete before the carbonation test can significantly affect the test results. In this work, more than 200 samples with various water-cementitious material ratios and various replacement percentages of GGBS were cast. The compressive strength, electrical resistivity, chloride permeability and carbonation tests were conducted. The moisture loss and microstructure of concrete were studied. The partial replacement of PC with GGBS produced considerable improvement on various properties of concrete.

The Future of Paper-Making: New Challenges for Technology

  • The history of the paper industry has shown a strong technological evolution which has been an essential factor in achieving low cost, high quality paper products and in sustaining the strength of the industry. In the last decades paper machine development has been rapid. This has helped to establish paper as a "low cost" material. In future, the pressure from the competing media will only accelerate the technological efforts to improve cost and functional'||'&'||'not;ity of paper. In addition, in the future, technological advances will be combined with innovation in busi'||'&'||'not;ness concepts. Certain production methods are likely to be developed which will distribute current process stages outside the paper mill. Papermakers can begin to reduce their invest'||'&'||'not;ment risk by subcontracting large-scale base paper production but taking responsibility for the higher value finishing process stages. Finishing will be more closely integrated with the final use. The role of technology supplier to the paper industry will naturally evolve to reflect all these changes. Metso is already actively collaborating downstream in the different paper-related business chains. This collaboration will be crucial for implementation of new business and technology innovations in P'||'&'||'P industry and Metso will certainly benefit from its catalyst role in this transition.

  • 본 연구는 현재 우리나라의 혁신클러스터 역할을 수행하고 있는 대덕특구와 7개 산업단지 혁신클러스터를 대상으로 이들 클러스터간의 기술혁신활동의 연계관계를 대덕특구를 중심으로 분석하고자 한다. 이를 위해 대덕특구가 기술혁신 역량을 가지고 있는 것으로 보이는 주요 기술을 도출하며, 이 기술분야를 대상으로 한국의 최근 등록특허 중 공동발명을 통해 이루어진 특허를 추출하고 연계행렬을 구성하여 지역간 혁신활동의 연계관계를 계량적 시각적으로 도출하고자 한다. 이를 통해 대덕특구의 주요 기술분야별로 타 클러스터와의 기술혁신 연계관계를 계량적으로 분석하고, 이러한 분석에 기초하여 타 를러스터와의 기술협력 방향을 제시하고자 한다.

  • 국가성장동력으로서 생명공학의 중요성이 날로 높아짐에 따라 세계 각국은 생명공학분야의 기술경쟁력 확보에 몰두하고 있다. 치열한 글로벌 경쟁 속에서 효과적인 연구개발을 수행하기 위해서는 주변국들과 우리나라의 기술경쟁력을 파악하는 것은 매우 중요하다. 기술경쟁력을 분석하기 위해 주로 델파이와 같은 전문가 의견조사가 이루어지고 있지만 이같이 전문가 직관에 의존하는 방법은 주관적 성향이 강해 설문응답자에 따라 다른 결과가 나올 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 객관적 데이터를 바탕으로 한 기술경쟁력 분석을 위해 미국에 등록된 특허를 활용하였다. 대상국가로는 동북아의 중심국인 한국, 중국, 일본을 선택하였고, 분석 지표로서 특허수, 인용도지수, 영향력지수, 기술자립도, 기술력지수, 시장확보지수 등을 분석하였다. 뿐만 아니라 특허의 IPC 코드를 44개의 산업과 매칭시킴으로써 생명공학기술과 산업의 연계성을 분석하였고, 이를 바탕으로 기술의 융합도와 활용도를 수치화하였다. 해당 연구결과는 우리나라 생명공학분야 기술경쟁력 제고를 위한 정책 수립 시 기초자료로써 활용 할 수 있을 것이다.

  • 섬유보강콘크리트의 균열발생 평가는 보통 인장강도나 휨강도가 지표가 되지만 시험체 제작 과정 시에 이루어지는 양생의 영향도 좌우된다. 일반적으로 콘크리트 시험체는 $20{\pm}3^{\circ}C$의 온도에서 수중양생을 실시한 후 강도 평가를 수행하나 실구조물은 습윤양생을 소정의 기간 동안 실시한 후 건조 상태로 된다. 이러한 기술적인 진보가 이루어지고 있는 경향과는 달리 양생방법의 차이가 균열발생 강도에 미치는 영향은 아직 명확하지 않고 있는 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 섬유보강콘크리트의 역학적 특성, 특히 균열발생강도에 미치는 양생방법의 영향에 대해서 검토하였다.

Prediction of the compressive strength of self-compacting concrete using surrogate models

  • In this paper, surrogate models such as multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS) and M5P model tree (M5P MT) methods have been investigated in order to propose a new formulation for the 28-days compressive strength of self-compacting concrete (SCC) incorporating metakaolin as a supplementary cementitious materials. A database comprising experimental data has been assembled from several published papers in the literature and the data have been used for training and testing. In particular, the data are arranged in a format of seven input parameters covering contents of cement, coarse aggregate to fine aggregate ratio, water, metakaolin, super plasticizer, largest maximum size and binder as well as one output parameter, which is the 28-days compressive strength. The efficiency of the proposed techniques has been demonstrated by means of certain statistical criteria. The findings have been compared to experimental results and their comparisons shows that the MARS and M5P MT approaches predict the compressive strength of SCC incorporating metakaolin with great precision. The performed sensitivity analysis to assign effective parameters on 28-days compressive strength indicates that cementitious binder content is the most effective variable in the mixture.

The effect of accidental eccentricities on the inelastic torsional response of buildings

  • This paper investigates the influence of spatial varations of accidental mass eccentricities on the torsional response of inelastic multistorey reinforced concrete buildings. It complements recent studies on the elastic response of structural buildings and extends the investigation into the inelastic range, with the aim of providing guidelines for minimising the torsional response of structural buildings. Four spatial mass eccentricity configurations of common nine story buildings, along with their reversed mass eccentricities subjected to the Erzincan-1992 and Kobe-1995 ground motions were investigated, and the results are discussed in the context of the structural response of the no eccentricity models. It is demonstrated that when the initial linear response is practically translational, it is maintained into the inelastic phase of deformation as long as the strength assignment of the lateral resisting bents is based on a planar static analysis where the applied lateral loads simulate the first mode of vibration of the uncoupled structure.
