  • An improved nonparametric tool description based on successive refined monparametric patches is proposed and therlated criterion for refinement is also discussed . In the proposed sheme, any required order of tool surface conformity can be achieved by employing successive refinements accoring to the suggested criterion. By using the suggested adaptive tool refinement technique based on the nonparametric patch tool description, the locally refined nonparametric tool surface with economic memory size and sufficient accuracy as well as with favorable charateristics for contact treatment can be obtained directly form the parametric patch related with commerical CAD system. Computation is carried out for a chosen complex sheet forming example of an actual autobody panel in order to verify the validity and the efficiency of the developed tool surface description.

  • In biology the advent of the high-throughput technology for sequencing, probing, or screening has produced huge volume of data which could not be manually handled. Biologists have resorted to software tools in order to effectively handle them. This paper introduces a bioinformatics tool to help biologists find potentially interesting pathway maps from a transcriptome data set in which the expression levels of genes are described for both case and control samples. The tool accepts a transcriptome data set, and then selects and categorizes some of genes into four classes using a fuzzy filtering technique where classes are defined by membership functions. It collects and edits the pathway maps related to those selected genes without analyst' intervention. It invokes a sequence of web service functions from KEGG, which an online pathway database system, in order to retrieve related information, locate pathway maps, and manipulate them. It maintains all retrieved pathway maps in a local database and presents them to the analysts with graphical user interface. The tool has been successfully used in identifying target genes for further analysis in transcriptome study of human cytomegalovirous. The tool is very helpful in that it can considerably save analysts' time and efforts by collecting and presenting the pathway maps that contain some interesting genes, once a transcriptome data set is just given.

  • The train control and monitoring system (TCMS) is an on board computer system in railway vehicles performing the control, supervisory and diagnostic functions of the complete train system. This system replaces a lot of hard-wired relays and minimizes the necessary vehicle wiring thus increasing the reliability of the train. It is also one of more important equipment on vehicle to implement much higher safety and reliability train system. We studied a software design technique of TCMS using a CASE tool that is a kind of safety critical software engineering tool (SCADE). This tool has mainly four functions such as the graphical editor, the document maker, tile automatically code generator, and the test simulator. The several functions of TCMS are implemented in this software easily programmed using a functional block diagram and a graphic programming language. We applied to automatically generated TCMS modules on the SCADE each functional block for the Standard type EMU in Korea. We performed the combination test using TCMS simulator and the running test in Seoul subway 7 Line. We proved that this technique is more useful for the software design of TCMS in urban transit

  • Servo mismatch, which affects positioning accuracy of multi-axis machine tools, is usually estimated via the circular test. However, due to mechanical restrictions in measuring instruments, the circular test using a double ball-bar is difficult to apply in miniaturized or super-large sized machine tools. Laser trackers are widely used to measure the form accuracy of parts and the positioning accuracy of driving systems. In this paper, a technique for the servo mismatch estimation of multi-axis machine tools is proposed via the circular test using a laser tracker. To verify the proposed technique, experiments using a double ball-bar and laser tracker are conducted in a 3-axis machine tool. The difference in the evaluation results is 0.05 msec. The servo mismatch for the miniaturized machine tool is also evaluated using the proposed technique.

  • This paper presents a new technique to analyze data on the coordinate x, y, z and apply these data to design the motion control to improve the efficiency of the engraving machine so that it can engrave accordingly in 3 dimensions. First, the tool path on the x-y plane is analyzed to be synchronized with the z-axis. The digital data is then sent to the motion control to guide the movement of the engrave point on the x-y plane. Tool path moves along the x-axis with zero degree and different values of the y-axis according to the coordinate of the digital data and the analysis along z-axis to determine the depth for engraving. The depth can be specified from the gray level with the 256 levels of resolution. The data obtained includes the distances on x-axis, y-axis, and z-axis, the acceleration of the engrave point's movement, and the speed of the engrave point's movement. These data is then transfered to the motion control to guide the movement of the engrave point along the z-axis associated with the x-y plane. The results indicate that engraving using this technique is fast and continuous. The specimen obtained looks perfect in 3D view.

  • This paper presents a technique of contstructing and processing the metadata information, which is for UML class authorization tool. Construction of the information authorization tool defines Classes and Relationship based on the elements of the consisting of UML class diagram. Definition of the information class is a visibility of Class, a name of Class, an attribution of Class and an operation of Class. Definition of the relationship with information is a name of Relationship, a type of Relationship, a FromClass and a ToClass. In this paper, for a class authorization tool, it suggests a technique to save and read information from information Storage based on the constructed information.

  • The quality certification test is usually conducted by a certifying organization to determine and guarantee the quality of software after the software development phase, commonly without the actual source code, but with by going against the product's manual. In this paper, we implement a Manual-based Automatic Test data generating tool: MaT, the test technique based on manual, that automatizes producing the test data from analysis data of software package and manual. The input data of MaT are the result of the analysis of software and manual. We propose 'menu-based test analysis model' in order to generate the input data. We believe that the proposed technique and tool he]p improving quality and reliability of the software.

  • In order to make unmanned machining systems with satisfactory performances, it is necessary to incorporate appropriate condition monitoring systems in the machining workstation to provide the required intelligence of the expert. This paper deals with condition monitoring for tool wear and fracture during turning operation. Developing economic sensing and identification methods for turning processes, sound pressure measurement and digital signal processing technique are proposed. The validity of the proposed system is confirmed through the large number of cutting tests.
