  • Many new technologies and developments designed to increase paper machine speeds and improve paper printability have emerged in recent years. These improvements have changed the structure of paper and given winder manufacturers new challenges, especially as the requirements of printing presses have also changed. Ever-increasing roll widths and diameters are needed. Along with faster press speeds and shorter acceleration times, the unwinding of roils in the press room has become a true test of paper strength and roll structure, In the following we will review the special winding features of coated papers and discuss a selection of the winder type to meet a mill's specific needs.

  • Endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) is becoming a standard method for invasive mediastinal staging and for the diagnosis of paratracheal and peribronchial lesions. It is essential to understand the technical aspects of EBUS-TBNA to ensure safe and efficient procedures. In this review, we discuss the practical aspects to be considered during EBUS-TBNA, including anesthesia, manipulation of equipment, understanding mediastinal ultrasound images, target selection, number of aspirations needed per target, sample handling, and complications.

  • Technical Specifications (TSs) for a nuclear power plant is an important licensing document which defines various operational requirements or conditions. Recently, many researchers have evaluated the risk impacts associated with the TS requirements, using probabilistic safety assessments becoming widely available. This paper presents insights gained km our review of recent risk-based analyses of TSs, focussing on surveillance requirements and AOT (allowed outage time) requirements.

  • In the last years there have been some severe accidents with passenger vessels. So, International Maritime Organization(IMO) has recognized that computer stimulation of the evacuation may be required for passenger vessels. Human elements is a key issues of escape analysis on shipboard. There are technical requirements to simulate of escape analysis for human elements. Technical requirements include model of ship structure, evacuation algorithm, human behaviour analysis and influence of ship listing/motion. This paper provides the key issues and technologies of simulation for human escape on shipboard.

  • With respect to the increasing social demands on environmental protection and technological advancement, collaboration between universities, technical societies, industrial associations and governmental agencies are become more and more important in recent years. Particularly during the last decade, interdisciplinary and inter-industrial cooperation appeared to be significant for making Japanese industries more global and effective to cope with those social requirements whereas the individual companies could not achieve comprehensive solutions. The author will review the current movements on the inter-organizational cooperation activities and future directions in Japan.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide base line data to the educational settings so that more improved occupational core competencies could be taught under the formal curriculum of the technical highschool than before through the inquiry into 'the need for the consolidation of education that principals of technical highschool perceive'. Initial occupational key competencies had been prepared through the literature review on the occupational core competencies and the review on the key competencies by the experts in the field of technical industry had been performed to achieve the purpose of this study. The survey instrument consisting of final 9 occupational key competencies had been developed with the careful consideration for the calculation of the need for the consolidation of education using the Borich's model. The results show that principals for the technical highschool perceive the strong need for the educational consolidation regarding the all 9 occupational core competencies in the whole. However, for the specific key competency of understanding the organization and the mathematical competency, the principals of the technical meister highschool perceive somewhat differently from the principals of the specialized technical highschool. The principals in the meister highschool perceive not much need for the consolidation of education regarding the competency of understanding the organization and the mathematical competency.

  • Naval Ships have a number of requirements related to performance. Naval ship acquisition takes a long time from initial planning to delivery, and various products such as drawings and reports are created. In complex systems, such as naval ships, it is difficult to maintain the required traceability through these outputs. The basic design of the ship is an important step to determine the specifications, performance, and equipment of the ship. It is necessary to apply the systematic requirements management process. The basic design manages the requirements in accordance with the systems engineering-based technical review process, but the actual system architecture design process is not presented. The traceability between the requirements and the functional and physical architectures of components is unclear. This paper examined how to design the system architecture required for specification and system design, and the design results were verified using SE-based technical review process for requirements management. A step-by-step process for designing a submarine system architecture is presented and verified using the SE technical review. This facilitates the specification of the requirements and system architecture design, and supports traceability management and verification of the requirements. The proposed process can be applied in various ships including submarines.
