Analyses of Organic Acids and Phenolic Compounds in Columbia Coffee Bean in Roasting Process

  • Coffee is one of the most popular drinks in the world. Roasting process of coffee bean is one of major steps to make coffee, however, there are few studies which analyzed chemical compounds in intermediate state of roasting coffee beans due to technical limitations to get coffee beans with the same roasting condition. We utilized Stronghold S7 pro roasting machine which guarantees the saming roasting conditions repletively with the aid of precise computer to control heat sources to get 20 steps (every 30 seconds) of roasted coffee beans during roasting process (10 min in total). Along with roasting process, phenolic compounds were decreased, which can be explained that roasting process cause phenolic compounds degradation. Caffeine is almost constant during roasting, reflecting that caffeine is not affected in roasting process. These samples presents that organic acids significantly increase along with the roasting process by HPLC analysis. With additional analysis of coffee beans, such as moisture contents, pH, as well as coffee tastes, our analysis will show detailed process of chemical compounds of coffee beans during roasting process.

  • Maintenance training is generally provided to teach employees new knowledge and techniques in order to increase their qualities. It means that the purpose of maintenance training is to increase an employee's knowledge or technique level and to maintain or increase their performance level through continuous training in their field, and the methods, contents and the level of training vary depending on the type of job they perform. Maintenance training is more important for jobs that require continuous technical increases or research, or for professional jobs that continuously require new knowledge and techniques. The purpose of this study is to provide quality service to consumers by responding to the rapidly changing jewelry distribution environment and to quickly and accurately acquire new and advanced jewelry inspection and appraisal techniques, and to contribute to the healthy consumption culture through a general quality increase in the jewelry industry.

  • Background: The International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) recommendations and the Federal Guidance Report (FGR) published by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have been widely applied worldwide in the fields of radiation protection and dose assessment. The dose conversion coefficients of the ICRP and FGR are widely used for assessing exposure doses. However, before the coefficients are used, the user must thoroughly understand the derivation process of the coefficients to ensure that they are used appropriately in the evaluation. Materials and Methods: The ICRP provides recommendations to regulatory and advisory agencies, mainly in the form of guidance on the fundamental principles on which appropriate radiological protection can be based. The FGR provides federal and state agencies with technical information to assist their implementation of radiation protection programs for the U.S. population. The system of radiation dose assessment and dose conversion coefficients in the ICRP and FGR is reviewed in this study. Results and Discussion: A thorough understanding of their background is essential for the proper use of dose conversion coefficients. The FGR dose assessment system was strongly influenced by the ICRP and the U.S. National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP), and is hence consistent with those recommendations. Moreover, the ICRP and FGR both used the scientific data reported by Biological Effects of Ionizing Radiation (BEIR) and United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR) as their primary source of information. The difference between the ICRP and FGR lies in the fact that the ICRP utilized information regarding a population of diverse races, whereas the FGR utilized data on the American population, as its goal was to provide guidelines for radiological protection in the US. Conclusion: The contents of this study are expected to be utilized as basic research material in the areas of radiation protection and dose assessment.

  • The technical advancement in and the widespread expansion of use of the internet has recently led to an increase in high bandwidth multimedia data usage. This is largely due to an unfettered access to the internet. The intrinsic merit of the internet, however, brings about a side effect:multimedia date can easily be duplicated recklessly. This invokes the problem of intellectual property right violation. Focusing on this matter, multi-faceted studies are being conducted now. This paper aims to provide, by applying steganography and encryption methods into the SMIL files which supply subtitle data, the intellectual property protection of both motion picture and its subtitle data, as well as the integrity of the contents in question. In order to achieve the above goal, the authors show a particular method how to safely embed subtitle data into the given frames, after they separate subtitle data to encrypt them. By doing this, the authors suggests, the intellectual property right to the subtitle data as well as their integrity can be protected and achieved respectively. Besides, an integrity service for motion picture can be made.

Chemical properties of liquid swine manure for fermentation step in public livestock recycling center

  • The nutrients in livestock manure produced during fermentation processes in public livestock recycling centers are used as fertilizers. However, the large amounts of swine manure produced in intensive livestock farms can be a nonpoint source of pollution. In this experiment, we investigated the chemical properties, inorganic components, and heavy metal contents in 101 samples of liquid swine manure collected from 28 public livestock recycling centers throughout the nation. Results showed that the average pH of the samples was alkaline (pH range 5.18 to 9.54), and their maximum EC was $53.2dS\;m^{-1}$. The amounts of total nitrogen and total phosphorus were in the range of 1000 - 2000 and $200-800mg\;L^{-1}$ while potassium, which constituted 47% of the total inorganic ions recovered from the liquid swine manure, amounted to $1500mg\;L^{-1}$. The most distinctive heavy metals recovered from the liquid swine manure were copper and zinc although the amounts of both heavy metals were much lesser than those of the standards as livestock liquid fertilizer set by the Rural Development Administration. On the other hand, the amount of nitrogen decreased rapidly with an increasing fermentation period from immature to mature, assumed to be lost as volatile compounds, such as ammonia, which are the major odor components during the fermentation process.

Studies on Variability in Wood Quality in Stem of Larix leptolepis-Green Moisture Content and Shrinkage between Heartwood and Sapwood- (낙엽송 수간내 재질변동에 관한 연구(I) -심재와 변재의 생재함수율과 수축율-)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate variabilities in green moisture content, specific gravity and shrinkage in the stems of a Larch(Larix leptolepis) to provide fundamental information for technical processes. There were significant differences in green moisture contents, specific gravity and shrinkage between heratwood and sapwood. The green moisture content was correlated negatively with the height in the sapwood. On the other hands, in the heratwood, there was a positive correlation between moisture content and the height. There were no significant differences in specific gravity between south-bound and north-bound directions in both heartwood and sapwood. There were no significant differences in specific gravity due to the height in sapwood, but significant differences were foundin heartwood. There were no significant differences in shrinkage between south-bound and north-bound directions, and due to the height in most of heartwood and sapwood. However, shrinkage in north-bound direction was higher than that of in the south-bound direction in some sapwoods.

  • Recently, the mobile industries grow up rapidly and their performances are improved. So the usage of mobile devices is increasing in our life. Also mobile devices equipped with a high-performance camera, so the image stitching can carry out on the mobile devices instead of the desktop. However the mobile devices have limited hardware to perform the image stitching which has a lot of computational complexity. In this paper, we have proposed improved feature descriptor extraction and matching method for efficient image stitching on mobile environment. Our method can reduce computational complexity using extension of orientation window and reduction of dimension feature descriptor when feature descriptor is generated. In addition, the computational complexity of image stitching is reduced through the classification of matching points. In our results, our method makes to improve the computational time of image stitching than the previous method. Therefore our method is suitable for the mobile environment and also that method can make natural-looking stitched image.

Feeding Effect of Dried Citrus Byproduct on the Quality of Jeju Native Pig Meat (제주도 토종 돼지고기의 품질에 영향을 미치는 건조 감귤 부산물 급여 효과)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the possibility for utilization and the effectiveness of citrus byproducts on the nutritional composition and sensory score of Jejudo native pig meat. The groups are consisting of the Jejudo native pig loin without citrus byproduct ($JNP-T_0$) and the Jejudo native pig loin fed with 8% and 15% citrus byproduct during growing and fattening period($JNP-T_1$). The contents of moisture, crude protein, crude fat, crude ash, calorie, cholesterol content Mg, P, K, Na, vitamin $B_1\;and\;B_2$, total amino acid, and total free amino acid content were not significantly different between $JNP-T_0$ and $JNP-T_1$(p>0.05). It was found that palmitic acid($25.301{\sim}27.403%$) was the highest one among saturated fatty acid while oleic acid($42.234{\sim}43.061%$) was the highest among unsaturated fatty acid in both groups. In case of sensory score, the color and aroma of raw meat, and the flavor preference of boiled meat of $JNP-T_0$ were higher than those of $JNP-T_1$(p<0.05). But the taste, texture, juiciness and palatability of boiled meat were not influenced by feeding of citrus byproduct.

  • The building industry must aim at high-durability and sustainability. A holistic life cycle based approach is recommended to reduce the environmental load. In recent years, technical innovations in the construction industry have advanced to a great extent, and caused the active research and development of high-performance and multifunctional construction materials. Nowadays, various polymer powders have been commercialized to manufacture construction materials in the form of prepackaged-type products, which have rapidly been developed for lack of skilled workmen in construction sites. Recently, terpolymer powders of improved quality have been developed and commercialized as cement modifiers. And, hydrocalumite is a material that can adsorb the chloride ions (Cl-) causing the corrosion of reinforcing bars and liberate the nitrite ions (NO2-) inhibiting the corrosion in reinforced concrete, and can provide a self-corrosion inhibition function to the reinforced concrete. The purpose of this study is to ascertain the self-corrosion inhibition function of polymer-modified mortars using redispersible powders with hydrocalumite. Polymer-modified mortars using VA/E/MMA and VAE redispersible powders are prepared with various calumite contents and polymer-binder ratios, and tested for chloride ion penetration depth, corrosion inhibition. As a result, regardless of the polymer-binder ratio, the replacement of ordinary portland cement with hydrocalumite has a marked effect on the corrosion-inhibiting property of the polymer-modified mortars. Anti-corrosion effect of polymer-modified mortars using VA/E/MMA terpolymer powder with hydrocalumite is higher than that of VAE copolymer powder.

An Exploratory Study on Acceptance Factors of IPTV Healthcare Service using Delphi Method (델파이 방법을 활용한 IPTV 헬스케어 서비스의 수용 요인 탐색)

  • The aim of this study was to explore the acceptance factors of IPTV healthcare users as convergence service through experts's opinion. First, this study extracted expected indicators for the acceptance factors from brainstorming and literature review. Based on the expected indicators, the Delphi method was performed in order to explore the suitable acceptance factors. The reliability of collected data was evaluated through the criteria of CV(Coefficient of Variation) and CVR(Contents Validity Ratio) on the selected indicators. The results showed a significant acceptance factors timeliness, the following appeared as entertainment, fun and self-efficacy and more. In the future, such additional step as factor analysis targeting the user to verify the validity of the selected factors is required.
