  • Thyroid imaging was performed in 53 hyperthyroid cats with technetium-99m as pertechnetate($^{99m}TcO_{4}$). Increased radionuclide accumulation was found in all cats. Thirty-four cats had bilateral enlargements of the thyroid glands and 14 cats had unilateral enlargements. Five cats had multi-focal accumulation of $^{99m}TcO_{4}$ in the ventral neck or mediastinum. Conclusively, nuclear thyroid image is useful method in diagnosis of feline hyperthyroidism.

  • [ $^{99m}Technetium-Heat$ ] damaged erythrocyte were used as spleen scanning agents in 12 patients from July, 1985 to April, 1986. We used this scan to evaluate situs inversus, asplenia, accessory spleen, hypersplenism, splenic infarction, tumor staging and evaluation of therapy, especially when the $^{99m}Tc-tin$ colloid scans were not definite for diagnosis. The techniques applied to these scans were in vivo/in vitro-labeling method and heating-method to damage the erythrocytes. Liver-to-spleen uptake ratios were increased upto 100 : 1 and interference from the left lobe of the liver was eliminated. These scans were helpful to evaluate the spleen.

  • Radiotracer experiments were performed over two years using pot cultures in a greenhouse to investigate soil-torice seeds transfer factors of radioiodine and technetium for paddy fields around the radioactive-waste disposal site in Gyeongju. Before transplanting rice seedlings, the top about 20 cm soils were thoroughly mixed with $^{125}I$ (2007) and $^{99}Tc$ (2008), and the pots were irrigated to simulate flooded rice fields. Transfer factors were determined as the ratios of the radionuclide concentrations in dry rice seeds (brown rice) to those in dry soils. Transfer factors of radioiodine and technetium were in the ranges of $1.1{\times}10^{-3}{\sim}6.4{\times}10^{-3}$ (three soils) and $5.4{\times}10^{-4}{\sim}2.5{\times}10^{-3}$ (four soils), respectively, for different soils. It seems that the differences in the clay content among soils played a more important role for such variations than those in the organic matter content and pH. As the representative values of radioiodine and technetium transfer factors for rice seeds, $2.9{\times}10^{-3}$ and $1.1{\times}10^{-3}$, respectively, were proposed. In order to obtain more highly representative values in the future, investigations for the sites of interest need to be carried out continuously.

  • Two cases of bleeding Meckel's diverticulum diagnosed by $^{99m}$Technetium-pertechnetate scanning are presented. $^{99m}TC$-pertechnetate was used in the diagnosis of Meckel's diverticulum by Jewette et al. in 1970 for the first time. The affinity of this isotope for the parietal cell of the gastric mucosa makes it ideal for delineating ectopic gastric tissue. Its noninvasiveness can be used in early screening test for occult gastrointestinal bleeding in pediatric age group.

  • Tc-99m methoxyisobutylisonitrile (MIBI) and Tl-201/technetium subtraction scintigraphy have been used for localization of abnormal parathyroid gland. The uptake mechanism of tracers has been postulated to be increased cellular density and vascularity, or dependent on the presence of mitochondria-rich cells. However, the uptake of these tracers was not specific for abnormal parathyroid gland. The author report a case of thymic carcinoma that would have been mistaken for carcinoma of parathyroid because of Tc-99m MIBI and Tl-201 uptake.
