  • Super-resolution near-field structure (super-RENS) technology and solid immersion lens (SIL) based near-field (NF) technology have been expected as promising approaches to increase data capacity or areal density of optical disc. Super-RENS technology has been studied until now using mainly numerical aperture (NA) of 0.85 far-field optical system and possibility of tangential data density increment have been presented. NF technology has been studied with NA over 1 and presented demonstration of removable performance. To achieve much higher density, approach to increase NA of super-RENS by NF technology (Near-Field Super-Resolution, NFSR) can be a candidate and we think this technology would be advantageous compared to wavelength reduction or much higher NA increment of NF technology or much smaller effective optical spot size reduction of far-field super-resolution technology. In this paper we present readout result of ROM media having monotone pits using NF optical system with wavelength of 405nm and NA of 1.84 surface type SIL. GeSbTe material was used for super resolution active layer and pit length is 37.5nm which is shorter than resolution limit 55nm. We present the feasibility of NFSR technology by confirming the CNR threshold according to readout power (Pr) and CNR 33dB over threshold Pr.

  • The gene for glycoprotein B (gB2) of HSV-2-strain G was subcloned, sequenced, recombinated into the lacZ-HcNPV, expressed in insect cells, and compared with the homologous gene of other HSV-2 strains. The ORF of the gB2 gene was 2,715 bp. The overall nucleotide sequence homology of te gB2 gene compared ith that of the two previously reported HSV-2 strains appeared to be over 98%. A recombinant virus named Baculo-gB2 protein in insect cells. The recombination was confirmed by a PCR and the expression was demonstrated by radio immunoprecipitation. Insect cells infected with the Baculo-gB2 virus synthesized and processed gB2 with approximately 120 kDa in the cells, and then secreted it into the culture media, where it reacted with a nomoclonal antibody to gB2. The gB2 polypeptide contained two main hydrophobic regions (a signal sequence from 1 to 23 amino acid residues, and a membrane anchor sequence from aa 745 to 798), eight N-glycosylation sites evenly distributed, and was rich in alanine (11.2%). Antibodies to this recombinant protein that were raised in mice recognized the viral gB2 and neutralized the infectivity of the HSV-2 in vitro. There results show that the gB2 protein was successfully porduced in insect cells and could be used to raise a protective neutralizing antibody. Accordingly, this particular recombinant protein may be useful in the development of a subunit vaccine.

  • Recently, images/videos have been preferred as the communication media because of their information-implication and easy recognizability. But the amount of their data is so large that it has been the major research area to compress their data. This paper is related to optimization in the image data format which can make a great effect in performance of data compression and is based on the wavelet transform and JPEG2000. This paper established a criterion to decide the data format to he used in wavelet transform which is on the bases of the data errors in frequency transform and quantization. This criterion has been used to extract the optimal data format experimentally. The result were (1, 9) of 10-bit fixed-point format for filter coefficients and (9, 7) of 16-bit fixed-point data format for wavelet coefficients and their optimality was confirmed.

  • Based on FDTD(Finite-Difference Time-Domain) method the human head absorbed power radiated from a 1.8 GHz portable phone is computed. For this computation the 7 layered media for the human head modeling and the monopole antenna attached to metallic box for the portable phone are used. To reflect the real circumstances typical sizes of human heads and portable phones are considered in the calculation. The length of monopole antenna is 4.5 cm. Under the predetermined model the distribution of SAR over the human head are calculated, and from which the place of maximum SAR is near the head skin surface, not deep places far into the head. The computation shows the maximum SAR to be 1.4 mWg somewhat less than the internationally adopted value of 1.6 mW/g.

  • The effect of modifiers on the optical features and radiation defying ability of the Eu3+ ions doped multi constituent glasses was examined. XRD has established the amorphous nature of the specimen. The presence of various functional/fundamental groups in the present glasses was analyzed through FTIR spectra. The physical, structural and elastic traits of the glasses were explored. The variation in the structural compactness of the glass structure according to the incorporated modifier was enlightened to describe their suitability for a better shielding media. For the examined glasses, the metallization criterion value varied in the range 0.613-0.692, indicating the non-metallic character of the glasses with possible nonlinear optical applications. The computed elastic moduli expose the Li-containing glass (BTLi:Eu) to be tightly packed and rigid, which is a requirement for a better shielding channel. Furthermore, the optical bandgap and the Urbach energy values are calculated based on the optical absorption spectra. The evaluated bonding parameters revealed the nature of the fabricated glasses covalent. In addition, we investigated the radiation attenuation attributes of the prepared Eu3+ ions doped multi constituent glasses using Phy-X software. We determined the linear attenuation coefficient (LAC) and reported the influence of the five oxides Li2O3, CaO, BaO, SrO, and ZnO on the LAC values. The LAC varied between 0.433 and 0.549 cm-1 at 0.284 MeV. The 39B2O3-25TeO2-15Li2O3-10Na2O-10K2O-1Eu2O3 glass has a much smaller LAC than the other glasses.

  • In this study, image comparisons were carried out using a MRI contrast medium which was derived by mixing a polyaminocarboxylic ligand and a gadolinium (III) transition metal which is paramagnetic and has good neutron absorbing capabilities with Gd-DTPA which is currently being used widely in the clinical setting. By using a 1.0T (Harmony, SIEMENS) MR equipment, phantoms of which 100cc of saline was diluted with a diethylenetriaminetriacetic acid derivative and Gd-DTPA were imaged. The amount of diethylenetriaminetriacetic acid and Gd-DTPA which was diluted into the 100cc of saline was 0.05mmol/L, 0.1mmol/L, 0.15mmol/L, 0.2mmol/L, 0.3mmol/L, 0.5mmol/L, 1.0mmol/L, 2.0mmol/L, 3.0mmol/L and 4.9mmol/L respectively. Head coils were used and while fixing the SE pulse sequence and image variable (as TE is 14ms, 1NEX with a 256x201 matrix), the signal intensity and simple contrast ratios according to changing concentrations and TR were compared with various TR at 300ms, 400ms, 500ms, 600ms, 700ms, 800ms, 900ms, 1000ms, 1200ms, 1400ms and 1600ms. According to the comparison results of the signal intensity of the image based on changes in contrast medium concentrations and TR, the differences in signal intensity between the two contrast mediums were found to be small at $1.0{\sim}2.0mmol/L$ when the highest signal intensity was achieved. However, at concentrations of 1.0mmol/L or less, the signal intensity was markedly higher in the Diethylenetriaminetriacetic acid derivative than in the Gd-DTPA complex. It was also found that the differences in the signal intensities demonstrated by the concentrations of the contrast mediums were affected by the TR. Accordingly, the efficacy of the Diethylenetriaminetriacetic acid derivative was shown to be better than the Gd-DTPA and also possible to get the optimum image quality by the use of an appropriate TR with appropriate concentrations of contrast medium.
